Whichever way you go will be good. Use the land to the best way possible. Good that you are teaching Caden the safety aspects of the tractor. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you! I am trying to help him start better habits than I have. I never focus enough on safety…
You got a nice pile of lumber going there!!
Thanks! We are making progress! Gonna be able to wrap that building soon!
Maybe a shelter off the backside of the sawmill. Great to see you include your son on your projects.
I have been thinking maybe at least extend the roof out the back for some staging or lumber storage…
I like that you are teaching your son young I didn't so I have to go one day a week and teach mine now lol
lol
I like the idea of a separate shed for the equipment and located conveniently to the area it will be used allowing enough room to get a larger tractor around. Alo make it 1/3 larger than you need, you will fill it with "stuff" and high enough to get the tractor under in a real pinch of weather.
That is a good point about the tractor. Even if it’s just to park it out of the rain while I’m working up there, that would be nice!
Yep, with the size of hail in these storms, I get the equipment under cover fast.
I had a Woodland Mills HM 122 and was struggling quite a bit trying to turn the bigger logs with a cant hook (like you were in the video). Then I saw a video on RUclips where a fellow put 2 inch PVC pipe about 2 foot long right over the log stops, so I tried it. I couldn’t believe how much easier it was. You can pick them up already pre-cut at 2 foot at Home Depot. Of course, if you got a scrap piece laying around, you can cut them yourself. You won’t be sorry.
Nice set up! Very good info too!
The Vet recommended a Seresto collar for my Lab who got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick bite recently. Good is enough sometimes, but enough is not good enough sometimes. Good is the enemy of great! Have a blessed day!
With regard to your layout and sheds, I told Sandy (Sawing With Sandy), analyze your movements and set up the mill, wood stacks, slab cuts, and in your case, your firewood splitter to minimize your movements and movements where you're carrying material. I like your channel, and glad to see your boy participating....
Thanks, Carl. I watch Sandy too. I’ve already borrowed some ideas from him. Thanks for watching and thanks for the advice.
I tend to agree with you. Another shelter would work better.
Whatever you do, it will be what suits your needs.
Good to see you Caden!
Thanks! I’ll tell Caden you said hello! 😊
I ordered my saw today
Congrats! Hope you like it!
Seresto collar for your dog (Walmart). They're a little pricey but it works for months. I'm in SW MO and the ticks are terrible here. Always enjoy the content, thanks!
Thanks! We probably need to. I got some permethrin concentrate that I’m planing to mix up and spray around the Woodyard to keep the bugs down because I’m tired of getting eaten up. Haha
Another reason to get permethrin, spray the ground for ticks. ✔
My stump grinder came it monday. 😁😁
Awesome! I actually ordered the permethrin. It came in just a couple days ago.
What did you wash the log down with? Diesel?
Separate sheds for the different tasks
I think this is what I really want to do…
my mill is ordered is the books or other videos for a beginer
I don’t know about books, but I have a playlist of sawmill videos and I’ve tried to cover many of the basics that I’ve learned so far. Feel free to ask questions here along the way!
Are your cuts on sawmill a little wavy? Kinda looks like it from video. I have this issue with my sawmill all the time and haven’t found any way to get it to stop.
Yes, sometimes. I’ve figured out two things contribute. The first is pushing the blade too fast, the second is a dull blade. There are knots that will cause it no matter what, but if I have a sharp blade and slow down I am getting good straight cuts. 👊
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead thanks I’ll have to try that with my mill and see if I can get some better cuts.
Keep me posted. As I learn more I’ll be sure to share.
Blade sharpness 1. Pushing to fast 2. Blade tension 3. log not locked down 4. All 4 can make wavy cuts.
I should be getting my mill next week, I ordered the 32" mostly because the Kohler engineer. Are you using the stock blades or are you ordering from somewhere else?
I am using their blades. I broke one and I believe that was because I had the wheels a little out of adjustment. I don’t really have enough experience to say if they are good or bad, but I’m turning out lumber.
Great video , love that you’re getting the kid involved in milling , but please get some safety glasses on. Sawdust or metal fragments in the eyes suck . Going to the ER and getting them flushed or dyed to find metal is traumatic to say the least, been there many times even when glasses were used in my career in the wood business 😢.
Do you think you need a heavier tractor?
No question! I’m deep in the shopping process now.
Find it purdy simple run you enff and build one
good times. hanging out with the kiddos. i let my daughter do her thing on the 4wheeler ( she dont like the ranger ). she does some cutting with the small ms170 chainsaw, she runs the splitter and does do some bushhogging on the RK55. she now has a drivers license and a car so hanging out with dad is not on her priority list
Phases of life. Enjoy them all! 👊
