Nice work! That song is so good, and thanks to you, I have the knowledge to play it. Also, I had the same issue in iMovie. Glad you figured out how to flip the video. That drove me crazy for a long time before I found the answer.
Really cool, I`ve been playing it live since the album came out (my fav` song on it!), was using the capo on the 2nd and doing a simple version which worked well enough but this is great. I`ll be using it from now on! p.s. You`ve a great voice for instructional videos, calm and deep! Rock on!
Awesome! I couldn't figure out exactly how the C# chord was voiced at all! I used the "verby" setting and an exp pedal for repeats on my timeline to bring in some swells. It's an easy cheat for playing it on your own. It's a bit similar to the feedback he used on the Hotel Chelsea Nights solo.
Glad to help! And, I feel a bit iffy on these voicing still... I hate making a claim of "here's how you play it" without seeing for sure where the guys fingers are when he plays it... But, I can't think of any other way to get the sound and feel without going to a totally bizarre tuning. Though, now that I've said that, I'll probably be completely wrong once a live vid surfaces. There's probably some obviously easier way that I didn't even consider. We'll see eventually!
This was through a Vox AC15 just with relatively heavy reverb dialed in on the amp, probably a little vibrato from the amp too if I remember correctly... no pedals on this one
Tim, your version sounds right, but those kinds of fingerings would be unusual for him, though he is certainly skilled enough to use them. If you do Capo 2nd fret AND do drop D low E, the movements become "less contorted." So the chords are relative to the capo B--x002230 C#min -- x20430 A-500030 E--000030 Or you can do standard tuning, but just capo the top 5 strings and leave the low E uncapoed, and you wouldn't have to do the 5th fret stretch on the low E string to get to the A. Then the A chord would be 300030, and the E would remain 000030. I also think that the bass guitar is driving that low E at the end of the verse line, not so much the electric/acoustic.guitar. It would be great see a performance though.
I agree that these fingerings seem odd for how I've seen him play progressions in the past... It's very possible that these are wrong fingerings... But the bass doesn't come in until 40 seconds into the song, so the guitar is absolutely having to command the movement E long before a bass is ever present... also, if you listen carefully in the :59 second to 1:00 mark of the song while the guitar is moving from the E back to the B you can hear the open D string sneak in there accidentally... If he was capoed or using some non standard tuning, that 4th string D wouldn't have even been an option for one to hear ringing in a slight slip up... so that was why I decided on standard
2nd chord is B Minor not B Minor Sharp surely as you do not move up one fret ? Nice Fender playing , Thanks. John, Cork, Ireland. Love Adams latest album a lot of Springsteen in there !
Hey John! The second chord is a C#minor. There are diagrams throughout the tutorial showing exactly what frets/strings are being applied to formulate the chords. The chords move B- C#Min- A- E
Sir you are a scholar and a gentleman for putting this up. Greetings from London UK
Thanks Amos, glad you liked the lesson!
"I've been waiting here like a dog at the door.
You used to throw me scraps, you don't do that any more."
One of the most painful lines ever
Funny you commented on this lesson... I was listening to Prisoner just yesterday and was reminded specifically about how great this song is...
@@TimGuitarLessons yeah it's a really lovely album. Definitely one to lie back and relax to.
I actually thought the most painful line in the song was
“I can hardly sleep I’ve been lying here awake,
I close my eyes I see you with some guy.”
Thanks, great tutorial, great song too
Thanks Don! Agreed about it being a great song too...
Thanks! I'll give it a try. I was really hoping it'd be easier.
Yeah some of those stretches can be difficult for sure, but it's good practice if nothing else to force your fingers to get those frets!
You're a superb teacher Tim.
Thanks Jay!

You're the man
This is super-helpful! As a novice player, I’m curious: how are you getting that guitar sound? What kind of amp, settings, pedals, etc? Thanks!
This was through a Vox AC15 just with relatively heavy reverb dialed in on the amp, probably a little vibrato from the amp too if I remember correctly... no pedals on this one
Appreciate it!

Ok thanks Tim, I will check out your diagrams and tutorial again and give it another go.
Just shows that a big chorus and fancy production is not needed when you have skilful songwriting
Definitely!
