The real villain is Raj Babbar. He is an evil and hypocritical man. He convinced Smita Patil he would marry her but he kept postponing it and Smita felt ashamed before her son and parents. It hurt her mind so much, she got a brain stroke and died.

I was lucky to have an opportunity to meet pratik in Goa during a a shooting rehearsal.My son was born same time in America and I regret now that I shared my personal life with him.Its unfortunate that poor guy was deprived of true parental love.Hopefully luck will turn around and success will kiss his feet.Stay blessed pratik,my son.

Even earlier there were rumors about Babbar's 'dosti' with Deepak Parashar being based on such self-interest and it had fetched him many pivotal roles after he had been rejected or removed from several big budget movies for no fault of his! It is also true that Babbar slipped from main hero roles into strong supporting roles soon after Smita's demise!
