How to Restore and Reuse Old Picture Frames

- I made this video while framing some prints for a local restaurant. The frames were all found in the dusty attic so rather than source new frames, I cut new glass and mounts to fit the old ones allowing me to use the very same frames that once hung on the walls they are now returning to.

And you never snagged a broken or missed staple and bled once! Incredible.
Thank you, this was just what i’ve been looking for! I found a beautiful frame at a fleamarket and didn’t know how to go about putting glass and a backboard on it.
This was not a total waste of time dispite what previous comment said; I don't think that the frame restoration was what I expected, that of how I might make the frame's front look better/renewed but the reuse of the frame was helpful and I learned about a tab gun. I think the matter of idea conveyance in the videos title could be worked on in future videos. Either way, I appreciated this short piece.
Yes, I agree. This was a good video for learning how to clean up old frames and I like the tab gun. The only problem was that the title of the video didn't reflect the content.
This was exactly what I needed and super informative. Thank you!
This is the knowledge just what I need! Very helpful! Thx
thanks for your very informative video.
I like that those frames were once on the walls of the house! Cool reuse.
Thk you
Happy New Year
This is most of what I need to know! I need to redo the frame job on some needlepoint pieces. The frames and the needlepoint o are gorgeous but the frame job is bad
The tab gun demo was helpful. I just got a used one with no instructions. Also, the use of paper tape on the back. Nice job! My only question is whether glass cleaner would affect original artwork (chemicals). I have been collecting old frames and want to clean them and frame some artwork. Thanks for the video!.
Thanks for showing how to remove staples. LOL
Thank you . I need to buy a tab gun .
would it work to use a staple gun? Or do you recommend to use the tab gun?
This is really helpful. Would you mind explaining where the backing board came from and how you cut it?
Backing board is usually a thin MDF or you can get a thick corrugated card backing board now too. Providing it is thin enough to fit in the frame any smooth sheet material will be fine.
I always look for a pair of framed prints, trash the prints, and have a pair of frames for good art!
Great Video. I have an old 2 piece frame. the inner peice has a cloth surface that is soiled. Do you have any recommendations for restoring the cloth?
Congrats on hitting 30 thousand subs!
Thanks!
Can you do a similar video about metal vintage frames the regular type and slide in type?
Hi I’m not sure if you are still active but I have just found an old picture frame that came from my grandfather i think it’s around 40 years old the glass is broken and I want to restore it can you help?
Very interesting. I want to know where to get that white piece of frame?
Just what I was looking for . Where can I get all these items ?
I was specifically looking for the tah gun part. Any way to do that if you don't have a tab gun?
What if I don't have a tab gun, but want to pin the tabs anyway?
What's the machine your using and what bits do you need for it
Check woodprix mates. I love it to my wooden projects.
All right Romana!
@@romaineathey6512 All right!
very accurate plans for something like that I found on Stodoys.
You didn't clean the front of the frames. Why not?
where can I find that tab nailer?
Any picture framing supplier will have them. I think ours is off Amazon. Great piece of kit. We use the flexi tabs as they are easier to bend if you need to remove the print.
You got rid of the painting just for the frame?
They're just reproduction prints, not real paintings.
I use them for albums, postcards, scrapbooking, aged paper is great, and have its own walue
he is so fast 1:40
59thousand views? To remove staples? wtf
What I wanted to know was how to clean the frame itself. Some frames have mold and are very dirty with built up dust. I agree total waste of my time.
Geraldine Webster ..why not google it folks if u want more step by step...how to clean depends on Frame.. is wood, stained, painted...??? Fine grade Sandpaper or mineral spirits would clean most frames..(never seen such clueless ppl) criticizing his brief vid on basic steps on cleaning up a old frame & removing old Matt board.
I do not ever use spirits on old wood. I do use vinegar with wood oil for cleaning Floors, teeth brash for cleaning details, or good back. For gold, you need to se layers, so you can use same colors. It can be red, blue, white black. I make my own beeswax polish. Put on the wood, and polish next day. Repeat 3-5 times. Some times I tone with wood toner, or use shellac. I never use nails, if they not there. I do use tape. Cracks I fill with fillers, or end glue. I try to use old rolled glass, or mirror. Here is most important staff, I think.
This is a reuse video not a restoration video.
You can learn more about it on woodprix website I think.
Stodoys is a good solution for every woodworker.
Very misleading title : there is no restoration shown here. This is merely a video about putting new pictures in old frames. I was looking for a tutorial on repairing damaged frames and I'm disappointed to have been deceived into watching something which does not cover this at all, and doesn't even show or describe in any details the stages mentioned in the description (i.e. cutting the glass and mounts to fit). Next time, I'll read the comments first. Also, really, how common is it to find frames like these for 50p-£1? In my experience such bargains are rare, and one would normally expect to pay about £3-£10 for similar frames/ framed prints (I could probably count the frames of this sort of age, style, quality and condition that I've found individually for £1 or less on my fingers).
Nothing about real restoration of frames, gliding, cleaning agents adhesives or staints. You shoud rename video. That it is reausage, not restoration. Misleading overall
Total waste of time.
Thank you! :-)
All I want to know is how to secure a sagging top part of frame!
Total waste of time
