    When I came to this video (and part 1 of it) I had already taught myself to recognise all the letters, but was still struggling with the order of the letters in the aleph-bet, particularly the latter half. This video has been really helpful to me for that, it's nice and slow (perhaps a little too slow for me because of my pre-knowledge), perfect for a beginner.
    When it came to the Resh and she talked about "Rosh", the word for "beginning" and then went on to talk about the first word in the Bible, bə-rê-šîṯ, which is in almost always translated "in the beginning", I immediately thought of a talk I listened to where a Hebrew scholar explained that it can actually be translated "when", making the first verse of the Bible something like "When God began to create the heavens and the earth." Fascinating stuff.

    Thank you, Dr. Davis; very helpful video. I had one question: at 9:18, you showed the letter SIN/SHIN with two dots over right branch. Why two instead of just one dot?

    • @BibleInteract
      @BibleInteract  6 лет назад

      The aleph has an -o- sound which is one dot and the shin has the other dot. Hope this helps

      +Landon Sprowls compare with ص and ع in Arabic ... they are the same letters. the people habitants of the East pronounce ayin and tsad and qof and teht slightly different than the European people.
      note: you are going to use Arabic font for seeing Arabic letters .

    • @declinatiohonesta7695
      @declinatiohonesta7695 8 лет назад +1

      +Mohamed Hassan Ayin is guttural, Teth is emphatic T, Saade is emphatic S, qof is deep Q, Heth is pharyngeal fricative. They're all supposed to be pronounced like their Arabic equivalents.
      Many Middle Eastern Jews still pronounce them correctly, and even some of the top European Jewish rabbis pronounce some them right.
