    You don’t need to let go of your ego, you just need to be aware of it, and realize if it is driving all of your decisions. The ego is also very helpful and fulfilling if you keep it in check.

    • @dotdashdotdash
      @dotdashdotdash 3 года назад +12

      the ego is the interface between your inner world and the external world, it is like the cell’s membrane. you can not get rid of the ego because it is like trying to bite your own teeth. as long as you use self awareness and realise what the ego is, and use it carefully, by choosing from the inner self and not the ego self, things will be better most of the time.

      Haha I’m not sure what you’re trying to say nick. Being aware of your ego doesn’t make you prone to change. Also we’re talking about the superficial ego here. You can be aware of something and never break free from it even though you have the illusion of breaking free . The ego is never fulfilling, hence why these practices were developed.

      kill your ego , wipe out your ego!
      that is the biggest ego
      person who seeks the spiritual path is nothing more than the person who seeks fortune
      except he or she made it look like a holy in their onw mind
      nowdays enlightenment , zen , buddha,christ ,god ,tao, void all these words became dirty words
      you don't need a words to know who you are
      and many teachings from great masters only distracts you from knowing it by yourself
      and walk the path
      if you are reading this and still seeking the path for enlightenment
      stop seeking through what others say
      just sit
      that's all right there
      you already are what you were seeking
      that's what buddha did after following all kinds of gurus
      he just sat and look within
      and start to hear himself instead of seeking through others words

    Zen uses the psychology of happiness to give its practitioners easy access to that feeling.
    We use the tool of "thinking" to solve life's problems, but once a problem is solved the role of thinking is over.
    We will experience true happiness only if we can learn to take a break from using that indispensable tool once it has fulfilled its purpose.
    Happiness will only be experienced when thinking [all conscious mental activity] has faded away of its own accord while we are alert and passively aware.
    That is a translation of what the ascetic Guatama Sakyamuni meant when he said, "Nirvana is the extinction of dukkha."

    Enlightenment seekers, here's the deal from a very old monk. Two steps:
    1) Understand the concept of Sunyata, translated as Emptiness of all phenomena, conceptually and intellectually.
    2) Realize the consequences of Emptiness psychologically until it sinks into your unconscious. You will then be liberated without having to think about it or notice it.
    It may take seconds or decades, usually the latter. Everything else, although potentially helpful, is irrelevant.

But u must must kill the image of the Buddha and realise that u are Buddha and when u see images without images u see Buddha, u see your very nature. Some may ask why in Buddhist practice does one worship and bow and chant in front of a Buddha statue, well it's not the Buddha statue that's creating the dilluded image,it is your mind. Cleanse your mind from this way of thinking and u can see the Buddha statue as not just shayamuni himself but U and U are everything, that is 아미토불 (amitobu) vast Buddha as your mind and nature are the particles of everything.

      Zen is everything abt the Universe, but Zen is unexplorable just like the universe - for the nature that human will never be able to understand the universe. Even with the tool of modern sciences, we are opening the 'black box', trying to understand, but never going to comprehend. Zen is a mirror of the world and a sense of inclusion for nature and all living things, It's inherently contradicting like the entanglement.. it's making clear of things without even trying to understand wow..

    Zen (jhāna) is really nothing more than the path Siddhartha took to become a "Buddha" which is a path of intuition that culminates in awakening to the unconditioned. In this regard it completely transcends the human being reaching back to the very source of all things which is not a thing. To fully understand where Zen is coming from one must intuit what Siddhartha did. Those who imitate Zen without Siddhartha's attainment are nothing more than fools.

      It's entirely dependant on how you feel you relate to each to school of Buddhism. If the way one school teaches the dharma appeals and makes more sense to you, then perhaps your practice is best started there. There is no better or worse school of Buddhism and all are as valid and as potent as one another, so go with what feels the most right.

      As a previous commenter stated, Rafaele, the Buddhist tradition (Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana/Tibetan, Zen, or another variation) isn't really relevant. What's important is what feels right to you. In fact, any practicing Buddhist who slams another person, tradition, or spiritual practice is doing a very thing that Buddhism teaches not to do. It's really about your path and journey, my friend. I don't know where you live, but my input for you would be to maybe listen to some dhamma talks on RUclips and visit any temples or sanghas (communities) near you. You'll know when you find the right path that speaks to you personally.

    Much of this is accurate, but the picture of a person "meditating" on a couch at 5:19 is totally misleading. That person is not sitting in a posture that any Zen practitioner would recognize. In every Zen tradition, the sitting posture involves elevating the buttocks above the knees so that the spine is straight and folding the hands together near the bellybutton. This is not some minor thing: the posture makes a difference, as it affects your breathing and attention. Some Zen masters (especially Dogen) would say that the sitting posture is *itself* enlightenment. Proper sitting posture is essential to reaping the benefits of Zen meditation, and what this video displays is NOT proper sitting posture.

      @@j.t.s8618 I didn't say anything about the lotus position. I just made a statement about what Zen practice involves. It's like saying "you play tennis with a tennis racket." It's just a statement of fact. There are, indeed, different ways of meditating. The Zen method of meditating involves sitting upright with a straight spine and with the butt elevated above the knees. That's Zen meditation. I didn't say it was the only "true" form of meditation. There are other forms of meditation. But Zen meditation involves specific things, and doing it differently might indeed be meditation. But it wouldn't be "Zen meditation." So the video is misleading in its depiction of Zen meditation. I'm not judging anything except what this video depicts. This video's depiction of Zen meditation is not accurate, just like it would be inaccurate to show a ping-pong table and say "that's tennis." No, it's table tennis; it's not tennis.

    • @Taldaran
      @Taldaran 2 года назад

      The actual sitting is the most important part. How we sit is a method to increase the time that you can comfortably meditate. If an elderly person's knees cause excruciating pain so they can't sit in a full lotus, should they abandon meditation practice? No. You modify your position so you can comfortably sit. Otherwise you are attaching to a form that causes suffering.

    • @BrianHagertyLawyer
      @BrianHagertyLawyer 2 года назад

      @@Taldaran I entirely agree. I never said full lotus is the only way to sit. There are a variety of ways, each appropriate to a person's abilities. But sitting upright is common to them all. The posture shown in the video is not upright, and it is not a posture any Zen teacher would endorse.
