Sound dudes can make or break a bands live sound. You are a good sound dude Alex, cheers!
That was very interesting Alex. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks Alex, this is the only live performance of Periphery with the sound from the mixing board I have come across on youtube! Also great job man!
Don't know how I stumbled upon this, but this is cool as hell man! Thanks for uploading this.
okey i have wathced all videos till this one 8 years back, keep it up aleks really intresting
Shit like this IS AMAZING. You, Alex, need to be their sound guy more often for this beauty right here.
Props to you man. These videos are so sick!
I'm so intrigued watching these. Keep them coming please!!
This is awesome Alex. It's cool to see what you do as you do it!
Do more of these. It's so awesome to see live sound mixing
Really interesting initiative, please do more of this. :)
Love this perspective, it's so cool to see your thought process during the performance.
Listening to this in the studio with the playback at unity and it sounds fucking amazing!
I'm almost done with my 3 years apprenticeship as an Eventtechnician. I would kill to learn from you, Alex! This sound is just amazing!
Just found about your channel, Alex, very educational to see it from your perspective.
Once again, awesome!
brilliant work, and amazing lights as welllllllll
one of my favourite vids man! hopefully I'll be able to be in your position someday, I've had little tastes at this level!
I love these!
Amazing and really interesting video! Keep em coming!
you can really hear the noise gate kicking in during the intro, interesting to hear their live audio, sounds great
this is an awesome point of view
Awesome to see you at work. This is a perspective you don't see for too many bands, so it's really very cool!
On an unrelated note, would you know if the pro mix for this show was saved?
DUDE! Don't hold out on Psychosphere man! They played it in Japan, I saw a shaky cam of it, and I NEED to see a FOH version pretty please?
Live mix is killer, damn...
Is there a lack of bass because the bass is going to a separate sub, or do you typically have low bass mixes in your live mixes?
Tobias Peterson-Stewart i'd assume he has low frequencies going to a sub which the camera doesn't pick up. it can only pick up the beater around 2-3.5k
@@lizziedanger4271 But this is definitely not from the camera?
He is mixing trough a live PA tuned with +12 dB low end dip around 60Hz. You are mostly listening it through a kind of "flat" device, try eq it with +12db at 60Hz sloping down to 0dB at 1KHz. And then you will hear the live mix like it should be
oh man! I love this so damn interesting
Pretty darn cool
Nailed the solo!
that's a hot snare
Their noise gates are so high it cuts some of their playing... and they all smash the hell out of their strings...
Also, everyone has that slight off-ness that comes from playing live.... except Matt. Flawless drums. Completely flawless.
Your so sick man! Amazing mix
Hey Alex, great videos!
I was curious to know how you pan all 3 guitars throughout the song (centered for solos of course), but is it two on one side, and one the other? or is there always a center guitar?
Thanks.
Vid says Mark is panned left after the intro and Misha is panned left after his solo, soo.. two on left, one on right? lol
Might be one on left and one on right with one guy playing the ambient stuff in the middle, idk
In an interview with Mark he said that he is panned hard right, Misha hard left and Jake in center.
@@Daantjer they also sometimes change it up too
hey i got a question. when it comes to recording modern metal theres either double tracking or quad tracking of rhythm guitars and periphery has an odd number of guitar players.
how do you pan them live when they're all playing a rhythm chugging part?
Usually, Misha takes right, Mark takes left and Jake takes centre.
thanks for the engineer .... good job :)
That quintuplet(spelling?) part at the end always gets me
This is some hard fucking prog work there. Awesome!
this is interesting 🤯
I could swear there used to be notes on the video where Alex was saying what he was doing as the song progressed
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a real sound engineer! lol
djentleman*
+Phoenix Pagan ahah nice one dude ! ;)
Random pig squeal time XD 3:28
soo intellectual dude.. !
i want your job. hacking lights and sounds is so much cooler than hacking taxis.
Hey, I can see a good old midas pro 9
fucking awesome video.
What console were you using in this video? I couldn't see it in the description. If it is there I apologise!
Hey I see that Grucifix!
interesting. so do you have to learn the song first? or you already knew their song?
So... both Misha and Mark are panned left? ;)
What desk are you using mainly these days? And thoughts on the i5?
I like the Avid Profile, prob my fav. Along with the Pro Series from Midas. the i5 is great. my favorite boxes are the d&b J8 and J12 series

Theodore Milller i use them both together inside the kick using the Kelly Shu system, and yes and for recordings etc.
Looks like you have channel 1 way higher is all. And from the look of the meters it looks like you're on the first bank
Theodore Milller yea i guess at this show i didnt have the blend. could have been the drum kit, since we were in tokyo, i dont have my kelly shu rig,
Alex, I know your time is limited, but I would be really happy to hear from you.
I'm going to start studying for a audio engineer degree and I wanted to ask you, if you (or someone in the comment section) could give me some little advice to get successful later on. It's my dream to work as a FOH Engineer and I want to do everything possible to reach that goal. It would be really nice to hear something from a professional for a change.
is the clipping on the snare intentional?
Well done mate! Awesome! Send me your resume.
I feel really stupid asking this, but what does an FOH guy do? Is it like live EQing or what?
AnonInTheMatrix I know, your comment ist quite old, but a FOH (Front of House) is generally speaking responsible for the Sound. He not only does the EQ but the entire mix. He works with his team to put up the mics, level the volume of each one and so on. His job is to make the band sound as good as possible in a live scenario. There are a lot of problems he has to deal with. Feedback ist one of them.
If he does a bad job, then the band can play as good as they want, but they'll sound totally garbage. That's why each band usually has his own FOH which comes on tour with them. Pretty hard and risky job, but damn it can make you some good money (if you're good enough and do the job with passion)
I'm going to start studying next semester, just to achieve this goal.
What RTA are you using on the right?
i believe it was Smaart, it wasnt my system so i dont know it could have also been SpectraFoo
Alex Markides
It is Smaart! :-)
Matt Halpern makes this song sound so much better than the original drums.
I want to contact you.
Darkides.LLC@gmail.com thanks!
crap
didnt like the clean vocals
