The narrator just letting both of us go was a nice twist. In the nightmare, he was shaken to the core, but here he just saw that a life with no end (and change) was not the idea the creator invisioned. So he just gives up. But on good terms.
@jacobhederstrom8198 if you try and be brave during the nightmare, by remaning in the cellar with her, the princess calls you out and removes her mask. Thereby showing you her expirience with the loop. Its such a eery and cruel expirience that the narrator just bails out and leaves you.
I think him seeing what a world of continually happy and rediscovered sensations looks like really did it for him. It also didn't help that this part of the route tore that vision of his down into what it (and the Construct) happened to be, even with everything anyone in there would want to be provided, in its barebones form: a prison. "This is...awful."
This is my new favorite Vessel in the entire game. Somehow, the beginning of a genuine affection you build here feels more...real? You and the Princess admit you don't know anything about each other, but you want to *try.* You *want* to care about each other. You *choose* to fall in love. You dance with her under the stars and learn how much she loves the stars, dancing, and the outdoors. You learn she enjoys games when they're interesting and that she can cook when she's prompted. You see her tired, you see her happy, you see her *sobbing.* You see... *her.* In the fullest sense. And you care about her, not just because Smitten says we have to, but because we genuinely want to care about her. We see her as her own person. Not a goddess, not a cosmic threat...just a princess. i didn't cry while playing this chapter for the first time, what are you talking about
I agree. It does something to you, speaks to some deeper truths. The princess and the knight are supposed to be together. It is about the realization, that an act of kindness, love and understanding will free both of you. You were there all along for each other. Finally, you stop fighting and embrace it.
This is one of my Top Routes. 1. The Happily Ever After. 2. The Thorn. 3. The Specter (Just apologize and save her) 4. The Prisoner (Just sit with her and let entropy do it's thing.) 5. The Networked Wild.
Hero is the best character and nobody can tell me otherwise. He doesn’t try to force his own opinions, though he still voices them. He stays by your side the entire time, and he’s just a goofy lad. We Stan Hero 🫡
He kinda does though... he forces us to go to Shifty's heart when we tell him not to. Plus if any voice fit that description it has to be Cold. Or Contrarian to some extent. Even Broken when he's not under the influence.
@ He makes mistakes, and in the ending I’ve seen (and despite me watching several play throughs of different people), Hero stays by your side until the end where he decides to stay in the Shifting Mound’s heart so you and the princess and live together
@@TheDiceMice Not always. There are several routes where he leaves you beforehand in various ways: In Razor, you shut him out, along with the others; in Fury he basically dies off and depending on how you got there, you're either left with Broken, Cold or no one (that's why they're sort of better imo); in Apotheosis he's either incinerated along with the others or they're all transferred to her; in Cage, he basically just goes. Plus he doesn't just stay, he goes to find the others.
Hey don't be like that - just be happy she let us have a dance. Plus the princess was happy that she was taken and she allowed it to happen. Denying that would be denying her happiness all over again and it would completely go against what the route is trying to say
This right here made me kinda hate the shifting mound. Idc about multitudes or godhood, just lemme enjoy an ending where the narrator sees the error of his way, and an incarnation of the princess and the bird grow close and get a meaningful relationship. To a degree, the shifting mound can be very antagonistic, even if you're completely against the narrator and his views. The new apotheosis is another instance of this. Same with the wild and thorn. One vessel can tell a full story and give closure to the game and the characters. I'm not criticizing the game, I obv love the endings we get, those are epic, but still, it's frustrating to lose the happy ending you worked for in one timeline because of an ascension you can completely deny anyways.
But we were able to dance with this one and that in itself is representative of a meaningful relationship. And we're able to fight with Eye of the Needle. Plus her not taking this one in particular would completely go against the theme of the route - things have to end. Plus this one was even happy and accepting she was taken, so was Spectre. And Wild and Apotheosis's stories had them reach the edge of the construct which is a natural point for the two beings most like her to go. Plus Apotheosis didn't even get a chance to shine before. Also words are difficult for Shifty and she is only as much of an antagonist as we can be at times, and she holds no malice to us either, neither should we. Plus leaving with an amalgamation of all the princesses we've met is far more cathartic and meaningful than leaving with one perspective, imo, especially a visual amalgamation.
@@apollyonnoctis1291 Not really - it's been repeatedly stated that the Shifting Mound is part of the princess and the Princess is part of the Shifting Mound. Meanwhile the narrator isn't even a part of us, not in the literal sense
To release her, acknowledging her wishes and dancing with her is the most beautiful and meaningful expression of love there is. Don't mourn her, she is where she is supposed to be. You will not lose her, you two will be together forever, even though from your perspective it seems like she has just vanished. She has only transformed and become more, because you let her.
But she has to. Otherwise you'd be trapping her in a box all over again and it would go against the themes of the route. Plus look how happy she is being taken - she knew it was going to happen so she's cool. Just be glad you got to spend a little more time with her than usual. 😊
But we got to dance with her and she's better than Thorn because of that. And her not being taken completely goes against the entire theme of the route - _that_ would be depressing. And she's even happy that she's going, she's smiling, and she says "thank you for taking me here," like she knows it's coming, like Spectre does. Plus you know there's the _ending_ ending where we can leave together right? We're basically leaving with a Princess that's shaped by all the perspectives we've met. And it's even more apparent with Stranger. If that's not awesome I don't know what is.
I know how that feels and why. It feels like one is losing her, but it is not true. She transforms and becomes much more than this limited version of herself.
This is the new chapter right after damsel. When you free her from the chains in damsel, ask her what she wants to do, then you can keep asking as she changes to the low quality damsel, then before the feelers take her you can say "let's leave together". When you make it up the stairs, tell her you don't want to leave, and stick with that. Idk if this is the only way, but it's how I did it.
We can't kiss her. And to be fair, I don't think we should. She's vulnerable, and although a hug would be better, dancing with her is so much more poignant than either.
@DED_MEEM But we got to dance with her after we left the cabin, isn't that more than enough? And if we got more time, it would go against the whole pro-endings theme of the route. Plus she even accepted that she was being taken, based on both her dialogue and the fact that she was smiling as she was taken.
This is just my interpretation, but when the Smitten had exposed his heart and killed himself, he broke out and became the narrator. He has literally seen his happy ending. He must keep Slaying the Princess or else the game will end...his world will end. He's been through the game many many times. Once the game goes dark and a long quiet of no voices occur, he must finally recognize himself in the mirror...his relection on the dark screen of his monitor.
Or he simply just wanted everyone to be happy because we said that's what we wanted and he's trying to get everyone to live up to this ambiguous expectation, including himself.
"You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin, and in the basement of that cabin, is a princess. You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world." That's what you're told by The Narrator at the very start of the game. You then have to decide if you trust him, and what you're going to do, and the rest of the game explores the consequences of your actions. Saying anything more will veer into big spoiler territory, and this is one of those "The less you know, the better" stories. I would STRONGLY suggest you either play the game or watch a playthrough from the start.
