      @@CompanyGripGuitar any news on the push pull short out?

    • @CompanyGripGuitar
      @CompanyGripGuitar  Месяц назад +2

      @@he11bent6Hello! Yes, fender finally reached out. This is what they said:
      “This is a result of how this model is wired and is normal. You'll notice the signal muted in position 1 with the volume pot pulled up. Because the function is putting two pickups in either series/parallel or the two pickups in-phase/out-of-phase, these controls only function when in position 2 where both pickups are active. We do not recommend pulling the volume knob up in any other position, as you have noticed it will cut the volume.”
      Bummer, eh?
      Regards,

    It would be really hard to argue with the tones you were getting out of the guitar. Pretty much everything you played sounded great and there are certainly a variety of tones available. The clean samples in particular were pretty amazing, like super clear and not too bright, and veryambient. Great review!

    You know what? I think I'd throw it into the neck position for that big solo anyway because when you flipped it up to that it sounded amazing. I know you said it was a little bright for you but man I thought it sounded wonderful.

      I hear ya. It’s not bad per se, I just wanted a bit more juiciness in the neck at the high frets. 🤷‍♂️ Been having a lot of fun with the guitar though. I wish the new line of fenders released today had a Jazzmaster, I’d consider grabbing one.

    9:40 There is no phase reversal on the neck pickup from what it looks like then, that's only for the bridge and probably meant for when the selector is in both pickups in the middle position.

    I really liked the backing tracks and thought the guitar sounded quite distinct. Also love the accidental kill switch. Paranormal hit another home run and seems to be the coolest stuff coming out of Fendder Squire under a grand by a country mile.

    When you put the guitar in series it sends the signal to ground at the bridge position. I have an HH guitar with the tone pots set up with series / phase switches. It does the same thing. Its in the wiring. You can hate that you have to flip two switches from series to bridge, or you can enjoy your kill switch when you're in series. That's up to you.

    • @CompanyGripGuitar

      Hi. Thanks for the comment. Yes, Fender has since confirmed with me that this is how it should be working. Which is good. I didn’t know if maybe there was a bypass circuit when the switch was activated that wasn’t working, but I guess it’s really no different then when you drop, say, the bridge volume to zero in a 2 pickup Les Paul in the middle position and the signal dies completely. Thanks again. Cheers!

    This is cool because back then some Country musicians played a Jazzmaster and of course many play the Telecaster. Add a Bigsby and you're set.

    2:00: There were also models (including the Sweetwater exclusive Dakota Red) that had the Squier Wide Range Humbucker in the neck instead of single coil, a humbucker or a Jazzmaster pickup.
    And that is meant to be a mint green pickguard. Also, only Floyd Rose-equipped Squiers come with locking tuners. And unless you are going to gig with it, locking tuners are a waste of money. All they do is make string changes faster. This guitar should not come with them.

    Just noticed this Paranormal SJ listed at the local store and curious, so good timing for your review. Should have been 'TJ' to be consistent, agree the 'S' is confusing. Also agree too bad this missed the JM switching. But at least it's got two push pulls though I wonder if your trouble is widespread. I like that the bridge pup has a metal baseplate, also like the Tele headstock and the vintage split tuners. Not a fan of poplar but it seems Squier is wed to poplar and laurel.

    They all have that where in the one position there is no signal unfortunately. Just how the wiring works I guess. Mine is like that too and I confirmed it with a few others.

    • @CompanyGripGuitar
      @CompanyGripGuitar  2 месяца назад

      Yup! Fender confirmed it with me just yesterday. They said it’s in the nature of the parallel/series wiring. I guess I would have just thought maybe they had smarter circuits that could detect that by now, but guess not. Guess it’s the same as on a Gibby where the signal dies out if you turn one of the volume to zero in the middle position.
      Cheers!

    Do you know if there is a way to switch up the wiring to have the bridge and neck work as normal individually if the series knob is pulled?

    • @CompanyGripGuitar
      @CompanyGripGuitar  Месяц назад

      You mean in terms of keeping it from shutting off completely in the bridge position? There’s probably way, but I’m not sure what it is. Sorry! Fender says “that’s just the way it’s wired and normal.” 🤷‍♂️

    I was just thinking, first Fender where I wouldn't have to change the wiring, and then you showed that bridge pickup dropout in position 1. Unacceptable! I think the fault is in the wiring design, not with your guitar. So, I would have to change it, nbd. I'd change to a 4-way switch, giving series and parallel as the two middle positions. And keep the pull switch for the phase as-is. Interesting guitar, though. Thanks for the demo.

    • @CompanyGripGuitar

    ive always thought that thing looked cool, but for $500 i would rather put together a parts caster and set it up real good and it would probobly be just as good. not going to lie it kind of looks like they got a bunch of parts mixed up at the squire factory and this was what came of it😂

    Im a true Telecaster guy, I love the idea of a jazzmaster neck pickup, I found these on the Thomann site although they only had the Ice Blue and Olympic White version, although I like the Ice Metalic Blue, I don't fancy paying £359 for a Squier though and so I will wait for a used one to come up on the market.
    I too am not keen on the enormous '70s Strat headstocks, and I am not keen on the saddles of this guitar, I prefer brass compensated saddles or the six brass barrel saddles.
    For the oversize ferrule hole, just coat it with superglue until you have it small enough that it will hold the ferrule, or you can wrap some ptfe tape or insulation tape around the ferrule.
