If your transmission is shifting hard then chances are it's just low on fluid. Do a flush and a service on it and see if the problem persists. If it does, it might be something in the valve body.
Love the car... I had hard shifting issues with my LeSabre from a vacuum module. It would shutter then slam into third and had no OD.
My parents had this model a 78 went through 3 transmissions and 2 sets of ball joints
