The word 'Racist' gets thrown around immediately in today's society. Back in the 80's there was prejudice, which formed from stereotypes. I don't hear ANYone use the word today, but most people aren't racist, they have prejudices. Until you've walked in someone else's shoes or experienced what they're going through, you may be prejudice. My mom used to tell me to lock our car doors as we drove through L.A. because there were people of color walking around. It was an overt prejudice, because we have never been mugged or robbed by people of color, and they weren't trying to jump into our vehicle. My mom used to tell me to lock our car doors as we drove through L.A. because there were people of color walking around. It was an overt prejudice, because we have never been mugged or robbed by people of color, and they weren't trying to jump into our vehicle. I've tried my whole life not to act like her or carry her prejudice.
That being said, Patrice O'Neal is my 2nd favorite stand-up comedian (R.I.P. both to him and Robin Williams). Everything he said was 100% real and truthful to him. He was a regular on Opie and Anthony and every time he was a guest, I was already smiling before he started his bits. I love comedy and I feel like it's alright to laugh at people's differences. What else are we gonna laugh at?
