The Bill Murray part was originally written for Sylvester Stallone but Stallone backed out just before we began shooting. The producers sent the script out to several other celebrities but no takers. We were actually already filming when Woody mentioned that his old buddy, Bill Murray, was also in Atlanta shooting a film called Get Low. Between setups, Woody called Bill and while we all stood around eavesdropping, Bill agreed. The writers got busy and the art department started making the BM for the front gate and a few days later we shot his scenes.

I first saw Woody Harrelson on the sitcom Cheers in the 90s, and this is what I always think of when I see him. He was hilarious in that, and pretty much stole every scene he was in. The gas station attendant was Mike White.
He wrote the movie School of Rock and the HBO series The White Lotus that just won a ton of Emmys which is coming back for season 2 on October 30th.
Highly recommend binging that show for anyone who hasn’t seen it before S2 starts.
Oh and he came in 2nd place on Survivor and honestly deserved the win. Got screwed over by a bitter jury.

The funny thing about Woody Harrelson in comedy roles is comedy is all we ever considered him for back in the day watching Cheers. He played a cute idiot for 8 years and even he was worried he'd be typecast. He did win an Emmy though and 5 nominations so he was popular enough to get into movies which is what he always wanted anyway.
Right after cheers his first movie was in 92' with the lead in White Men Can't Jump. If you need a Woody comedy you can't go wrong but there's serious elements too. Wesley Snipes was huge at the time and Rosie Perez's role was parallel to Marida Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. I think her best performance and helped launch her career.
Anyway a year later in 93' Woody was in Indecent Prosal with Demi Moore which was also huge but such a far cry from his usual goofy roles. Then in 94' with Natural Born Killers I think most of us old farts who grew up watching him blown away at his range because even actors at the time typecast as hardcore couldn't compare to that performance alone let alone the polar extreme of where be came from. I compare to Keanu Reeves in that regard. While Keanu had serious roles initially he wasn't really well known until Bill & Ted and then we just viewed him as goofball. Even the martial arts instructor on the Matrix didn't initially want to work with Keanu because he thought he wasn't a serious actor.
But yeah, long story short "White Men Can't Jump" is an awesome comedy if you're going down the Woody Harrelson rabbit hole.

I love this movie! I do acknowledge that it is probably the purest example of a film that, if you think about it for a minute, makes zero sense (they constantly waste ammunition, all the lights and water are still on, very inconsistent on what kills zombies, and all the characters combined have the tactical sense of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup), but it's just so fun that you go along with it.

the sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, is well worth the watch.
Woody Harrelson was in, Venom: Let There Be Carnage (though you would need to watch Venom first), Solo: A Star Wars Story, and of course he played Hamish in the Hunger Games series.

Bit of background. This was originally supposed to be a TV series, pitched to Comedy Central. The movie is, essentially, a slightly expanded pilot. "Zombie kill of the week" and the narration element give that away to a certain degree.
Zombieland is definitely one of my favorite zombie flicks.
