    Matt the way that I have always made this is to melt the butter on low in a small sauce pan and then add cinnamon and sugar and mix well. Yours looked like it wasn’t mixed thoroughly. I think the heat melts the sugar, kinda creates a caramel ish mixture. Oh and pour all of the butter and brown sugar/ cinnamon sugar mixture in there. You left the good stuff in the bowl, what was poured in was mostly just butter.

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt 4 года назад +1

      You can certainly do it that way if you like. :) This recipe has a higher ratio of melted butter to brown sugar than others. It is supposed to be like that. With that said you can make that part however you like. :)

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt 2 года назад

      If you don't use as much butter, it won't be that wet. But I like it like this. :) And you can make it more like a paste like for cinnamon rolls, and you get the same effect like you are referring to. It winds up being more like this recipe ruclips.net/video/9WGDz3t1H8I/видео.html

      lol yes it does look weird. haha This particular one is especially gooey. haha. But you need the caramel (butter and sugar) to help them all stick together. an oh do they taste yummy.

    What about mini loaf pans

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt 6 месяцев назад

      Yes you can use any loaf pans for this, it doesn't have to be a bundt pan. The baking times will vary depending on which pan you use so just keep an eye on them and check them sooner if you use the smaller pans.

    How much butter

  • @PurpleEpicness333
    @PurpleEpicness333 Год назад +1

    I want to make this but with homemade biscuit dough. How many cups of flour would be equivalent to the amount you made?
    Thank you!

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt Год назад +1

      Hello you need about 30 ounces of total biscuit dough. If using a homemade biscuit recipe It is probably double or triple the recipe. if you have some leftover you can just bake them separately.

    • @PurpleEpicness333
      @PurpleEpicness333 Год назад +1

      Thank you! I was able to adjust the measurements just enough and made the perfect amount.
      I wanted mine to be more on the dense and chewy side (I’m trying to recreate BJ’s monkeybread pizookie), so I slightly reduced the amount of baking powder and milk. While it tasted amazing, it was very crumbly and not “pull-apart” at all. Any advice on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again!

    This is an old fashioned recipe, originating from the 40's I believe; and I have often wondered why all of our old fashioned recipes have been left behind in the race for new and gastronomical delights, depending on one's view of them. I yearn for desserts that my Grandmothers used to make when I was a child: such as Lemon Icebox Cake, Baked Dumplings, Ice cream and Sherbet etc; and those of my English Grandmother also: such as Suet Puddings, Spotted Dick, Apple Dumplings and so much more...
    The Monkey Loaf is a blast from the past, but shouldn't be, along with so much else that our childhoods consisted of; very likely healthier too... Good one Matt!
    A particular favourite of mine (altho not a dessert, and from the european side of my family) was *huge* Baked Onions served with a white sauce poured over them. At least they seemed huge to me at the time. Of course, I never realized it at the time but it was considered a cheap and extremely healthy source of vitamins and minerals (onions have so many health benefits, impossible to list here) a throw back from the war recipes, since apparently rationing went on in europe long after the war ended. But they were delicious.
    More old fashioned recipes please, Matt! :)

      Old fashioned recipes are awesome! Might need to start doing recipes from Julia Child! lol I like how they can bring up old fond memories with every bite. But to be honest this dish is not very healthy! LOL but that is to be expected. With that said, you can alway use less butter and sugar for everything. And what I like is the versatility, if you want them super gooey add more, bake it a little less, if you want them with a bit of a crunch on the top, and more dry, use less butter and sugar. I even don't mind it cold. I am pulling pieces off of it in the fridge and not even heating them up first right now. lol

      Lauren Piantino Hi, well said- I agree, I love old fashioned recipes. I saved some cookbooks of my mom's going back to the fifties, but would give anything if my family had saved my grandma's! ... I'm with Lauren, Matt, love all your videos, but request more of the old classics, please :-)

      Thanks In The Kitchen With Matt! :-) I have to ask my family next time we get together which recipes they remember that our grandmas used- and, I faintly recall my grandma mentioning recipes HER mother used, wish I had written down what she said... for now I recall my parents talking about them using a lot of nutmeg in desserts, particularly apple desserts- I could be wrong, but I think nutmeg was used a lot more in those days than now... also I think they made milk gravy more often back in the day- my mom used to say her mother made that often, and she would make it herself- it was delicious- very simple recipe, but I loved it... which reminds me, have you ever made a video on how to make the best milk gravy? If not, that's another request I'll make... well, I'm not asking much today, am I? haha :-D Lol Thanks!

      lol. OK then:
      Sussex Pond Pudding
      Bread Pudding
      Bread and Butter Pudding
      Any of the steamed puddings, i.e.
      Suet Treacle Pudding (not pie)
      Spotted Dick
      Jam Roly Poly
      Victoria Sandwich Tea Cakes
      Steamed Cherry Bakewell Pudding
      Rhubarb Crumble and Custard (awesome!)
      Jelly/Jello Mousse (Just two ingredients, but a mite tricky)
      That's just to start with... :)
      And, lol, I have a 'to die for' Rice Pudding recipe handed down to me by my Mother that will make y'all want more than a second helping. :)
