Based off your review and a few others I just purchased the UT27 800 Pro, I think the UT27 800 with two rechargeable batteries and the choice between 3k and 6.5k kelvins will really be what I needed for my application. Thanks for the thorough review and insight into these devices!
Excellent timing Jeff, this is my next need/want. I’m new to the trail running life and am totally in love with it. I come from a professional road cycling background but always preferred mountain biking. No change with running. I want to thank you for all of the obvious hard work you do. I have been watching a bunch of trail videos and constantly go back to your content. You are extremely motivating and there are thousands of people that appreciate you like I do that don’t take the time to respond. Please keep doing what you do and I hope to run into you guys one day. Blessings sir.
The NU25-UL's Ultralow mode is just right for many nighttime tasks, at 6 lumens of white flood. With 45 hour run time, a few hours of use will barely affect the battery charge, great for an "emergency backup" use case.
I watched this video clip and the petzl one. wow, the demo to wear the headlamp is so professional. I thought it is the official one made by petzl. Until watching this video in which the same person wears the nitecore headlamp, I found that that both petzl and nitecore demo are made by you.
I have the older Nu25 lamp and I did the bungee cord UL by myself. I love it in my bikepacking as emergency light/ camp light . I also use it as rear red light clipped to the setbags. I will upgrade for sure to this new version!
Good reviews Jeff! I got an NU25UL off AliExpress for about $35 CAD, otherwise the Canadian pricing is too outrageous for what you're getting. I keep it in my small emergency ziplock in my vest all the time, and have had to use it when starting out too late in the evening and needing light to make it back to my vehicle. It's the perfect emergency light, just make sure to keep an eye on the battery life to keep it topped off for those times you need it lol.
My NU25 UL only lasted a year. The USB-C rubber cover is VERY POORLY BUILT as it's difficult to snap in place to cover the port. I've used it on a heavy rain. The cover wasn't properly closed so the water got in through the USB-C port. It malfunctioned after a few days then totally died a few weeks later.
@@JeffPelletier They recently released the NU50 as well. Which has the same look of the NU43 but with a bigger battery (same output). Not sure its worth the extra weight at 146g vs 116g.
Not sure if this is normal or not but my NU25UL dims itself to almost the low setting after about 1-2 minutes of being on med or high modes, even though the battery is showing as full. Fairly disappointing.
Which headlamp should I buy for night fishing? I'm so confused. Please tell me just 1 model, the price is not important, as long as it is of good quality.
10:21 ever heard of a powerbank? Why bring the weight of an extra headlamp, when you can bring a powerbank and recharge other devices as well. The Vapcell P2150A is the size of an 18650 battery, has 5000mAh of power, and weighs 74g.
Hi Jeff, loved both vids! I just wanted to ask if you ever have problems with your headtorches giving you too flat a light when on technical terrain? I find that mine just doesn't quite make stuff pop out enough and it can make running on technical (and even fire trails with small dips and holes) quite mentally taxing. Have you run with waist belts or found ways around this problem with any of your torches? Cheers
I should add, do you think it's more of a warm light issue rather than anything else? My lights have always been the cool, white light but I've seen manufacturers (kogolla) say the warm light helps with differentiating features and you mentioned it in this video as well
I find that a warmer light seems to provide more definition than a cooler one. But supplementing with a waist light would definitely work since it’s coming from another angle. I’ve never tested a waist belt personally, but I really should one of these days!
5V 1A is not fast charging, but I have this flashlight (UT27) and it is really decent, I especially like the red light, which is really bright. And my door also snapped off, lol...
Thanks for sharing your experience! I still find it uncomfortable myself, even over a beanie or a headlamp. (I never wear a headlamp directly on my head.)
@@JeffPelletier I'm comparing the old 2017 NU25 variant with headband to the NU20 updated re-release with shock cord. Shock cord is certainly less comfortable directly on the head, but I can only barely tell the difference between shock cord, headband, & no lamp when wearing a cap & that is from the slight weight & tension differences. I find the headband variant actually is a little less secure on a cap, seems to require more tension to not flop or slip. It's quite hot & sunny where I live so if I'm outside working or exercising I'm always wearing a hat of some kind. I can see how it would be less comfortable if you rely on a lightweight beanie or light sweatband though.

Just got myself the UT27 can't wait to test it out. Your review very helpful
I’ve got the UT27 and love it for casual trail runs. Turbo mode also great when sending it on short fast descents! Great video as always Jeff
Thanks, I had the original NU20, and it was woefully inadequate during my last overnight trail race. Will have to pick up one of these

2024 nu20
i really liked the UT27, but the battery cap is really easy to break from the rotating joint and i am not the first to hear about this problem
The hinges break. Worlds tiniest hinges
2024 It is better ??

Can you review the nitecore NU50 headlamp
Do you have any information about when petzl will go from micro USB to USB -C for their lithium batteries?.
Have you tried the NU43 yet? It’s more comfortable than the Fenix HMR IMO and really lights up the trail even on the lower setting.
I’ll have to try that out!

Many trail races require that you carry a spare headlamp for safety purposes. This covers you in case of mechanical failure as well as a dead battery.
@@JeffPelletier ah, duh haha. I'm not always thinking of races in mind, but that makes perfect sense!

Ut27 hinges are small and delicate and will break
1. That's not paracord, it's shock cord.
2. You're supposed to wear it over a hat, headband, bandana, which negates most of the comfort difference.
