    One tip I can add is I heard you say you have a lot of quick connects on single wires. What I do when I deal with scenarios like this is use the little small colored zip ties to label everything. Walmart, advance auto, Autozone all have them and each store the colors vary in tones not to mention you can double/triple up and change colors. The possibilities are endless bc you can keep adding. I rarely get to 3 zip ties per item due to the possibilities you have just with doubles and colors. For example red, green or red yellow and you can also you the same patterns and change the order on which the line up on the wires. Thanks for the video. This is exactly what I needed.

    13:00 I did the same with my hondas, I cut two teeth off the 24 tooth distributor wheel to get 12-1 to run wasted spark, as MS1 extra was unable to decode a single missing toothed wheel at cam speed, worked very well when I changed the VR sensor for a magnetic hall type... I believe you can run a cam speed single missing tooth wheel on an MS2 extra though...

  • @Mike-ry4ti

    VR sensors are awful unless you have a circuit tuned for your specific application. They don't really belong on cars, they are only useful on jet engines...etc with very advanced controls and extreme conditions, nothing beats a solid 0V/5V signal going directly to your MCU. Had loads of success with MS1 extra 20 odd years ago, can't wait to get started with speeduino. So far I just have a breadboard based simulator using ardustim because my new car it way to expensive to mess with😅

    Excellent video, very creative and impressive utilization of the distributor as a cam sensor!
    One question though, did you end up going with the connected signals for the fuel injectors, or did you somehow go full sequential based on the other parameters? Unless you're going for the backfiring or turbo misfiring system it seems like a pretty significant waste of fuel. Just curious what the system you're running is like.
    Again, great video!

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  3 года назад +1

      You will use 25 and 27. Pin 27 will supply the negative voltage to the vr sensor. 25 will read the output from the vr sensor.

    • @EduardoCastrillo
      @EduardoCastrillo 3 года назад

      @@CEKGarage thanks for the update, but now I'm a bit confused, I forgot to mention that a VR conditioner will also be used, ain't 25 for hall effect sensor? Also, since this is a 3 wire, shield grounded cable should go to engine or chasis ground right? Thanks again.

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  3 года назад +1

      @@EduardoCastrillo Correct. The 3 wire VR sensors normally are as follows, a supply, a shield, and an output. The supply would come from 27, the shield would be to a grounded to your choice, and the output from the VR sensor would go to 25. There are other ways to wire it up, but that is the most stable when pin 27 supplies the vr sensor.

    whats the best way to power the speeduino in the car?

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  3 года назад

      Depends on the car, but in short, you need 12v power source that has power with key set to on as well as to start. Have that fused with a 2.5 amp fuse. A common trick i see for cars converted from carb, is that someone uses the 12 v supply wire that goes to the coil.

    I just realized that I forgot to say why I used the TPS 5v for the hall sensor. The hall sensor that I am using is a 5v hall sensor. In the Megasquirt picture that is common, it shows 12v Hall sensor. Make sure you know what one you have and how to wire it. Some sensors are 5, some are 12, and others (common) ones are 5 to 24v.

    Hey i got a V0.4 board and a rb25det that i want to convert to standalone. I see that speeduino supports the nissan 360 wheel so im guessing i wouldn't have to use an external crank trigger wheel. also to get fully sequential spark would i need a cam signal as well?

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  5 лет назад +1

      The last Nissan cas wheel I played with was a 4 wire. Power, ground, crank (360 slots), and cam (4 slots with different sizes on a KA24) I also played with a 300zx that had 6 slots. My best guess is that the rb will be just like the 300zx. You can pull the top off and confirm. This is all you need, that will be the crank and cam sensors both build into the one unit. Thanks for watching!

    You said you wired one pin of the injector to positive throught a fuse, and the other to speeduino, right? My injector pins on speeduino are positive (12v) pins. Could both injector pins be positive?

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  5 лет назад

      They should be -12v when they are firing. Keep in mind, if you are checking the voltage with the engine off and key on. The +12v will flow through the injector to the pin Speeduino. If you look at the schematics, both Megasquirt and Speeduino work by sending ground to the injector.

    • @Jorge_11ernandez
      @Jorge_11ernandez 5 лет назад

      TwoNuts DIY I check the speeduino connected to conputer and 12v from a external battery, not in the car yet, and with the multimeter between pin number 1 on 40 idc socket and ground, the result is 12v (meaning pin 1 is the positive I guesst)
      Am I right?

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  5 лет назад

      Not a problem at all! They will still send ground to fire the injector. You will need to supply +12v to the side of the injector not connected to Speeduino. Make sure you find out if you have low or high z injectors. Low z injectors will need a resistor. Hope that helps! What car are you working on btw?

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  5 лет назад

      One more thing to help out. The +12v that you see at that pin is pulling through the LED light. If you look at this schematic you can see how the 12v flows through the led on there. cdn.hackaday.io/files/4413188805792/schematic%20v0.4.3_schem.png

    Hi., So on your custom cam trigger wheel, at what position/degree did you remove the two teeth at?. Is it 90 degree before TDC? 90 degree after TDC?, Or 180? I'm in the middle of doing this on a Honda distributor and I see a 24 tooth gear, a 4 tooth, and 1 tooth gear. This is where I'm stuck at. I was thinking about going edis4, but I would like to use the Honda distributor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

    • @CEKGarage
      @CEKGarage  5 лет назад +1

      With both Megasquirt and Speeduino, you can use the "Trigger Offset" to enter any value. So where you cut a tooth is not as critical as long as you know the about the right degree, then you can dial it in with a timing light and that setting. Mine was at 68 degrees. That said, if I remember right, there might be a way to do this without cutting out a tooth. Whatever way you decide to go, please use a spare distributor or a junkyard one to bench test the VR sensor as it feeds your ecu a tach signal. (I have spent hours at my kitchen table with a 9v battery just playing around) Let me know how it goes!

      I noticed that I missed part of your question in my first answer. The missing tooth passes by the sensor, and then 68 degrees later, my engine is at TDC. When I welded the wheel in, I was trying to get it at 60 degrees. Ended up at 68 after I used the timing light.

      In short, yes. For Megasquirt this will be pin 24 (Pin 1 is just a ground for the sensor) For Speeduino. This would be pin 24 as well. (Cam VR2+ Signal) One thing to keep in mind, Megasquirt will need to be set up as the VR circuit and if you are using Speeduino, you will need to use the VR jumper as well as have the VR conditional circuit.
