Have a 65yo divorced spouse, we were married more than ten years, who's sole caregiver for an SSDI pre-21 disabled son. I was on SSDI, now am on SS. Her local SS office keeps saying she cannot get a caregiver spousal benefit. What can she collect from SS & when? Can it be retroactive to her initial query?
It has become complicated for more than one reason. There are so many rules and regulations that even the agents within social security and CMS or Medicare do not fully understand all of the applicable rules. That's one reason why there is a grievance process. Another reason is that some agents feel that the government money belongs to them and it is their responsibility to keep it in the government pocket. I do appreciate their desire to protect government funds however this can mislead them into making poor or misguided recommendations on what things must be done. For example, My wife was taken off of her disability and told she had to go on to social security because I was taking mine. I was later informed that this was not true and she should have stayed on her disability which automatically gave her things like Medicaid. There are many reasons and many answers that do not always seem to make sense and therefore asking multiple people under multiple circumstances may be required.
As oppose to whom, the private Corporations? You are delusional thinking the private company will run it well and protect it. Just look around what private Corporations are constantly doing to their clients.
I don't understand why I am being penalized for not signing up for medicare when they wanted me to. Why don't I get to make that decision? What difference does it make to them? I'm told that it's a penalty for life!
Dr Weir. I have listened to hundreds of your broadcasts. Thank you for your service, Sir. Turn 65 in late Jan. This is the first time I heard you say I needed to submit a form to deny part B? Then later you said I dont need to contact SSA if I choose not to enroll in A/B ? I dont see it in Forms onlIine mySSA. Clarify please. I have great employer insurance (JPMChase). Also, I was one of the idiots who threw away/misplaced their medicare packette - could you please address how to fix that. Lastly, I rec'd a letter last Nov that said I had applied for benefits? I dont remember doing that - what should I do? I have had a mySSA acct for years - dont see the application there.
Thanks for this. Right at 12:25 is what I was looking for. My wife turns 65 in 2025 but I'm 62 and still working and she's on my insurance. I was looking for the proof we'd need to show that she was covered with creditable insurance/drug plan , and I downloaded those forms. I'll get those filled out for each year until I stop working.
My problem with Medicare advantage surfaced when several of my specialty doctors decided not to participate in these plans. I was told that regular Medicare paid better than Medicare advantage. I did not want to shop for multiple new doctors so reverted back to regular Medicare.

I've only been on MC for a couple of months and with the new year coming up I will have to have a knee replacement and I'm having trouble getting everyone on the same page. One doc that accepts my Medigap provider and another doc doesn't take that provider, especially the hospitals. I was told by a hospital if I had MC A&B only they would accept, but will not take the provider I have for my Medigap. It's crazy trying to find a Medigap provider everyone takes. My broker said if I have MC A&B then they have to accept whatever provider I have for my Medigap. Is this correct? Otherwise trying to get everyone on the same page is madness.
Ed, thank you for your channel and support to all who are struggling through SS and Medicare. Your help requested: I lost my job in November 2024. My salary through 2023 and 2024 pushed me into having to make IRMMA payments on top of the normal Part B premium. I paid for Part B and Part D plus IRMMA premiums for Dec 2024, Jan & Feb 2025. The SSA office told me to bring in form SSA-44 to request a reduction in IRMMA due to a “life changing event”. I did this and just got a rejection to remove the IRMMA because my life changing event (work stoppage) did not lower my 2024 MAGI enough to allow for a change. However, I was requesting the change for 2025, not 2024. Did this get messed up? Do I need to go to SSA office in Jan 2025 to make the request again for 2025? I will no long have a salary only my only source of income will be my SS check. My spouse will not get SS until July 2025. This means our Medicare Part B & D premiums and IRMMA will eat up over a third of oure SS income for 2025. Am I stuck or can I make a request for life changing event in Jan 2025? Thank you!!
I’ll try to make my question brief. I was on SSI and when I turned 62 they put me on my security and SSI. My husband who I’m separated from just turned 62 he’s on disability he gets about 2000 a month. So I applied for a part of those benefits, but I only got about $200-$300 a month. And I was told you could get from 1/3 to half but I’m not even receiving a third and I wondered if that’s because I was 62 when the Social Security office filed For my Social Security? Or did someone in the Social Security office not do it properly. I’m still getting totaled what I would get on SSI if I weren’t getting the other benefits.
I’m 64, work part time. So no health insurance from work. I buy my own health insurance. Looking forward to receiving Medicare when I turn 65 but not taking SS until my FRA at 67. How will my Medicare premium be paid since I won’t be receiving SS at the same time? Will it be drafted from my checking account?
You will receive a bill for 3-5 months at a time for your medicare until you get on social security, then the monthly premium will be taken from your SS benefit.
I went on Med A at 65 in early 2024, then B when I retired in June 2024. I had to pay the first 3 months' premium at once but then signed up for monthly auto pay Bank drafts after that, until I start receiving SS checks.
In my case I signed up at 65, waiting until 70 to take my S.S. I had to pay four months in advance, so be ready. You can be 2 or 3 months behind in payments without be cancelled and no fees, if it takes you a while to catch up. I set it up to come out of my checking monthly, a nightmare for me. Eventually, I chose to pay monthly right from Medicare.gov. Also, know that if you want to cancel you still have to pay for two more months.
@@scentsbysherri if you are collecting SS, they automatically enroll you into Part A and Part B and send you your cards. I’m one of the people turning 65 each day. My birthday is in January so my initial enrollment started 10/1/24. I had to wait until I saw my doctor 10/7/24 to make sure he would take A & B then I applied on line 10/14/24. It took until 12/20/24 before they finally approved/processed it. I don’t know if I got screwed up by open enrollment but it does make me angry that it took 68 days.

Part D requires having your A and or your B coverage but it does not require both.
I started receiving my SSA benefit checks last October 2024 , I automatically signed up with Medicare A and B. My Part B will start by Feb of 2025. I am confused what to get if it is a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage. I don’t often go to doctors except for annual checkups or for emergency cases like sciatica nerves is bothering me . Pls give me an advice. I am 71 years old now. I just done with my 40 pts credits. Thanks
If u have hmo. You can continue it automatically if no change

Maybe call your Office For The Aging in your county? They are the ones I call and go through and they help me with everything Medicare, Social Security, etc. Good luck!
I am going to cancel it out I have no idea what they set me up with I can't afford a lot on social security
The video cut off when the q&a started... Bummer
They say Medicaid is for Poor people ! I don't have a job so what am i 🤔
If you live in Oregon you are eligible to be on Oregon Health Plan (OHP). It’s Medicaid, even though many people don’t know that.
I understand that plan G is no longer available for new enrollees. Did something change?
Oops, it is available, sorry
That is old plan F.
But i always got over $967 a month since 2020 ! 4 years later its a problem 🤔
You can get zero payment for Medicare. I never hear you talk about give back
Medicaid sent me 10 letters ending my Medicaid they said you get over $967 a month 🤔
Bummer, stopped at Q and A….
So in order to get Medicaid you have to get $967 or less 🤔
I wonder, does the money in you’re savings or checking account in your bank affect Medicaid as a senior citizen? Did that part change for you?
I get more then then that so I think you allowrd gross $18, 00 0 yearly no more then that you get accepted
