  • We're excited to announce our new set of Irish Folk tune arrangements. They represent a great musical tradition with rich melodic variety, rhythms and ornamentation that are rooted in history going back to the great Irish Baroque composer, Turlough O'Carolan, and even further into the Renaissance period.
The initial set of few pieces has evolved into a much larger project of 16 pieces (and counting)! Aside from their musical depth and appeal, they also make a great practice set for classical guitar. Dr. Emre has arranged them in the order of difficulty from basic (single-line melodies) to advanced (full texture). The complete set is part of our online curriculum along with lesson notes and sheet music. As with the rest of the pieces in our online program, this set will take your playing well into advanced levels one great piece at a time!
We've also started sharing many of them on our Patreon feed. Stay tuned for advanced and upper-advanced pieces in the set!
A special shout out to Eugene Frizzell, our patron and student. He played a critical role in this project from start to finish and provided invaluable insight and inspiration throughout. Moreover, he generously shared historical references about his Irish heritage. Eugene, your contribution is greatly appreciated!

Glad to see some attention given to the Irish music. It seems like they dont get that much attention. I know the English suppresed them musically.

Emre Ó Sabuncu. The -oglu suffix means 'son of' so adding another 'son of' in the form of the O' prefix changes the meaning. To be genuinely Irish though, the commonly seen O' prefix is an anglicisation and is more ethnically correct spelled Ó with a space, not an apostrophe. Sabuncu (or Sabunçu if we're being pedantic) is a suburb of Baku in Azerbaijan, which is where I'd guess Emre's ancestors once lived.

There’s a small packet of Irish duets I found online a couple months ago that I started going over with a pupil; 4:34 is the solo arrangement of one of them; quite a lovely piece!
