It seems they put everything in the chin so eventually will just have a piece of glass instead of a display for future models, and it would be projected from that chin at the bottom, like a heads up display on vehicles.
The “idiotic charging method” is so you don’t damage the mouse when you spill a drink. It’s genius really, just inconvenient for some, although does charge fairly quickly after work or during a brief break.
The low end model is designed for corporate, educational, medical, or computer lab situations. You don't need touch ID if you are using network accounts or a generic public account. You don't need additional ports or massive amounts of storage if most people will only use it for browsing content or using network drives. If you do need to plugin a flash drive, there are two ports available. Why pay for features that are not needed for this use case?

Only thing I wish was that the entire Mac was deep yellow instead of two tone and that typing keys were all yellow but that’s okay. It’s beautiful enough. Way to go Apple.

A yellow iMac. Wonderful. I would finally have to find the cash to buy one and leave Microsoft behind. Fortunately this iMac still has a white border around the screen, so it is not as yellow as it could be. I am saved. I can stay with my PC.
Without the chin, the only sight of color you'd get while using your colorful computer would be the stand. On top of that, the entire computer would have to be thicker, and the speakers wouldn't sound NEARLY as good since those massive resonance chambers above the logic board are what make the speakers sound so full and impressive. So yea, hate on the chin all you want as an armchair designer/engineer, but I'm pretty sure Apple knows what they're doing. This computer is striking, even still to this day, and the alternative everyone THINKS they want wouldn't be anywhere near as striking. It would be a Studio Display with a yellow stand.

The mid-tier iMac also has only 256GB of flash storage. Honestly, i think 256/512GB should go away. This is nearly not enough anymore for anyone these days. Even the average consumer take a lot of pictures and video's. They do take up a lot of space as well in the end! When it comes to the ports, yeah, two thunderbolt 3 ports are lame, sure. But you're not getting more ports buying a Macbook Air that starts at $1249 or even a Macbook Pro that starts at $1299. The iMac at least has a 4,5k, 24" screen. Which the Macbook Air nor the Macbook Pro have. Nowadays, there are affordable docks that can give you plenty of ports. And seriously, the magic mouse and keyboard charge very quickly, and i don't suspect you charge them both at the same time. I mean it can happen, but i know i don't do that. I try to look now and then at the battery status of my accessoires. If i see one is getting low on battery i plug it in for awhile and it's charged fairly quick! I think not having touch id on the base level iMac is also because i'm pretty sure that keyboard with touch id will cost a pretty penny... So it makes sense and they want to give you a bit more for when you do pay more and get the mid tier iMac. I mean, they have to give something when you pay more right? 🤷🏻♂️ That being said, it surely sucks that an SD card slot isn't present on the new iMac. And that's also why i think they should've made the iMac a bit thicker, get rid of that chin and put the computer parts a bit higher. But Apple chose to make it as thin as possible and keep the chin to have more recognizability! Now i can understand the latter. But making it so thin of course makes that the SD card slot probably wouldn't fit anymore but they could've easily have the slot on the side of the iMac. Which would've made it easy accessible and that would be it. Seems strange that they get rid of it on the iMac and all the rumors up until now says that Apple will bring back the SD card slot back in the new Macbook Pro. I would like to say: This is an ENTRY-LEVEL iMac. So that nano edged display, that is an optional $500, yeah, i'm really not seeing buying an average consumer buying those. Don't forget this is replacing the 21" model! That one didn't have that option either! 9:19 not true at all, any adapter will work. You don't need to buy an Apple one. You can buy one from any reputable company! 10:04 AGAIN, this is replacing the 21" iMac. Apple is going away from USB-A. They do this with their Macbook Air and Pro model as well! Besides. The lack of more TB3 ports is an M1 limitation. A thing that i do agree with is that it sucks that you can't upgrade the ram anymore, though again, i don't think that you could do that in the 21" iMac either, which, again, is the iMac that this one is replacing it with! I personally do like the yellow color to be honest. It almost has a little bit of a gold design depending on how the light shines on the iMac!
I was not down for the long keyboard but my husband preferred it so with went with that. But its really a compact computer for your desk in my opinion. You have the option of getting the smaller keyboard amd the mouse or just the track pad with drastically reduces the sapce it takes up on your desk.
I would have liked it better if it was all red as it’s my fav color but pink and red looks weird together unless it’s Valentine’s Day lol. I went with the green one though
