- Hello everyone, in this video I will be teaching you how to properly identify two types of wild sorrel and make a delicious wild soup. Wild sorrel has many nutritional benefits and it is easy to identify. I will show you wood sorrel and it's identifying features, such as it's heart shaped leaves and small yellow flowers. I will compare it to white clover, a look a like to the plant. I will also show you sheep sorrel which has rocket shaped leaves and looks much different from it's relative wood sorrel.
After we learn how to identify it, I will take you step by step as I attempt to recreate a recipe for wild sorrel soup. The recipe I used is not my own creation, you can follow the recipe to by going to: honest-food.net/french-sorrel...
The soup ended up being delicious and pack full of vitamin C. Perfect for a chilly summer day, or when you are feeling a bit run down.

We just discovered both wood sorrel and sheep sorrel in our yard the other day, and we’ve been loving it! I just made this soup last night, and it was delicious. Thanks for the recipe!
You are welcome! The soup is yummy.
0:39 Thank you for the close up view . It really helps
Absolutely Sammy!
“Natures sour patch kids” my son would certainly love that! I just think it’s really cool how knowledgeable you are on these plants...the soup looked delicious!
Super lemony and delicious. Usually kids favorite edible plant when I teach them!
I have loved eating both Sorrell for 45 years, since I was a kid. I discovered it just by plucking and eating. Yum! I will try this soup
Have you ever had kidney stones?
How cool! I'm a california city kid so it's cool to know about these things!
Glad you learned something!
I bet mushrooms would have been really good in that soup!
Oooh yes it would have!
I love how much you go in depth about what your talking about. It shows that you are passion about the subject. I like nature too and haven't seen many videos on nature. You got yourself a new subscriber 😍‼
Thank you so much! That means the world to me. When starting this channel, my goal was to connect others with nature. I love learning about new things in nature, can't wait to share what I learn!
I like the word "shamrock".
It’s a good one isn’t it?
Amazing plant. Great channel!
It is seriously one of my favorite wild edible plants! It is super sour, delicious, kids love it, and I think it tastes like nature's sour patch kids. Have you had the chance to try this plant? What were your thoughts?
I love your shirt! May I ask where it is from? Thank you for your video!
Oh my this looks amazing!! Did you plant the sorrel plants yourself? I bet it tasted amazing! I love lemony flavors!!
No, it's a weed that grow abundantly here in New England. You can usually find in untreated lawns, disturbed areas, and sometimes the forest. It's super lemony from the vitamin C in it. Eating it fresh is a delicious snack, but this soup was a game changer!
Lemon is my favorite. It's bad for your teeth but I love eating lemon with salt as a snack.😅 I feel like this soup is one I would enjoy since you said the sorrel has a lemon flavor. It looks tasty and I think it's awesome you used ingredients from your own backyard!
Yeah the plant fresh is super lemony. You could make it into a salad too that would be yummy. I call it natures sour patch kids. I love sour stuff so this plant is my favorite! Plus it’s packed full of vitamin C.
Our favourite sorrel recipe -
500 grams of smoked meat (don’t add if vegetarian)
3 onions
2 bay leaves
Handful of pear barley (or rice)
3 carrots
2 potatoes
400 broad leave sorrel (sheep sorrel how you call, for us normal sorrel and first one we called rabbits sorrel in my language 😂)
Eggs
First boil potatoes and carrots until nearly done, cook onions with meat - add to potatoes and carrots, add pearl barley and cooked chopped eggs and add chopped sorrel. Boil until sorrel is start to browning / changing colour .
One off most popular spring time soups from where I live.
Almost sounds like a Sundrop Soup with Sorrel added..
What is vegan butter? I thought butter had to be made from milk fat.
