I've tied a bunch of these up for an upcoming trip in a couple of different sizes. I think these look even better in real life than in the video. The thread is a bit tricky to use as it's rather slippery. I do like the fact that it's strong and doesn't build the body up too thick. I've also used the same Body Quill to tie the $3 Dip from Blue Ribbon Flies. It looks good.
@@HacklesAndWings Your version of the Frenchie remains one of my top producing flies for the Madison River. You turned me onto the Semperfli Nanosilk 18/0 Brick Beige thread. I now use it on most of my lighter colored flies. Oddly, Semperfli doesn't offer it in 12/0. Not that the 18/0 ever breaks. I think one reason the Plastique Frenchie works so well is that it makes for a slender body. Another reason may be that it reflects light on a sunny day. Thanks again for this gem.
@@HacklesAndWings I resolved the issue of the slippery nano silk thread by applying a bit of Veniard's "Prepared Fly Tyers Wax" to the tag end of the thread. It then doesn't slip between my fingers.
I've enjoyed your videos. This is also a nice presentation. Just bought the ingredients to tie it. The thread appears to be this one: Model: nano-ultra-bbeige Bar Code: 886741052542 Brand: Semperfli Manufacturer: Semperfli Material Color: Brick Beige
What a great tie! Never thought about using Hends body quill for Frenchies. I like the way the tail has that shimmer along with movement.

Yes, it takes some time to get used to but once you do, it really does wonders! Good idea for the $3 Dip
