Yeah for me this is the most closely realistic to my military experience, trying to do the right thing in the face of lack of resources, incompetent officers and constantly changing orders. War is chaotic. Always amazes me how the media think everything is orderly and perfect. Decisions taken in the moment can be picked apart at leisure by critics without having any understanding of the situation.
"Saved by sheer Incompetence" best way to sum it up. You honestly try to do the right thing and try not to get your people killed. In reality, you really don't want to hurt anyone. This is why I gravitated towards my current beliefs. The video, A message to humanity, was what I felt but couldn't verbalize. You try to do the right thing in a fucked situation. I know there is some hate towards Officers but honestly some were pretty good. The unfortunate thing is they get treated like Lt. Fick and more "confidant" Officers take charge. Unfortunately, this also happens on the Enlisted side as well. My nickname for those kinds of Individuals was "Dentures" moving up command quickly.
This show is a good microcosm of the whole invasion in the early 2000s Goes to show you can be pro-military but anti-war, especially with the mountains of incidents where coalition forces had rules of engagement that might as well have been as effective as wet tissue paper, resulting in unacceptable civilian death and suffering
Can’t wait for part 2! I love this show, I’ve had many friends that served in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. They tell me, taking out some creative license, is dead on. It always seems like from this show and their stories it’s all run like a business. Incompetent brown nosing bosses One awesome boss who won’t get anywhere The one weird guy in the office A few Hard workers And the masses just trying to get a paycheck
It is tragic comedy for sure. Kind of like In Bruges but real life kids getting killed. The journalist is us, he saw this or some things like this happen.
Kudos to this series for showing the difficult shit..... the civilian casualties and loss of innocent life..... Iraq was a straight-up cluster fuck. Vietnam in the desert!
again i think i said this in a pacific episode but "unlike the pacific and band of brothers. Generation kill is a diffrent kind of show. this isnt propaganda that is trying to show the honor and glory of the US military. its more a show that shows us U.S. citizens that war today isnt as black and white as it was in the beginning of the century. it kinda shows us how complicated. yet still simple war can be in the 20th century... and reminds us how bad we can in trying to be the good guys by holding a mirror up to our faces about both sides of action. both between the bad decisions of guys in the field, leadership and good decisions by guys in the field and leadership. and then the enemy's point of view but im still jealous about your developing a crush on nate fick hahaha
When diplomatic means fail, as they have for thousands of years... How do you feel about people that get killed because the enemy uses school children as a human shield? FIND THE BETTER ALTERNATIVE!!!! Humans. Don't discondone you fools, PROVIDE A SOLUTION
@@JulietteReacts That's alright. I know it's technically unlisted, but I couldn't help myself. Had to look, because I've been craving some new videos from you since I finished watching Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Mostly looking forward to this, Barry and Chernobyl. Hope you're continuing all three. Especially Barry, because I love that show, lol. It's a nice comedic relief mixed with drama and action.
@@JulietteReacts Awesome possum! I'm just glad you haven't forgotten about us or this channel (though I understand that life can be crazy outside of RUclips, especially these days)
i cant believe im jealous that you have a crush on LT fick... Not because i want you to have a crush on me. but because your slowly losing your crush on CPT Nixon... like if you were crushing on Alexander skarsgard, sure but NATE??? really???? like if i ever meet the actor that plays nate fick i might fight him over this lol hahaha and the worst part will be standing over him saying "I did this for Juliette Reacts" and him being like "i dont know what your talking about broo...."
I imagine it’s pretty difficult to watch this series as a non-American. There’s just so many references and slang terms that are esoteric, even to the rest of the English-speaking world.
Recorded next GK episode, 3x Barry episodes and 1x Chernobyl episode. :)
The Pros.

Don't worry. ❤️

As a big musical fan - absolutely!

I think we would all like to marry fick dudes cool as hell.
One of the problems here is the units you are seeing are members of USMC Recon while the officers are not, so there is a disconnect
Here is your next task: React to Encino Man.
