    I was in Cario three weeks ago, April 2024… and went to visit, even though at this time the museum only offers a tour of the grand staircase for now. The building is an Architectural marvel. The building itself is a work of art… let alone the artifacts that will be housed there. When this museum fully opens…. I will fly back Cairo ( a ten hour flight)…to see this museum in its full glory .This building is a marvellous work of modern architecture and Egypt should be VERY proud. While in Cario…. check out the Civilization Museum as well…. which houses all the Royal mummies. This is a stunning museum too! Well done Egypt! I will be back ;)

    I deeply love Egyptians, their culture, and their incredible history. I have been to Egypt countless times and hopefully many more. But this place breaks my heart. It is so disrespectful of the ancient Egyptians and their achievements, I don't even know where to begin.
    This whole compound is built in a totally soulless contemporary run-of-the-mill airport/train terminal design that has absolutely no connection to Egypt's glorious past other than some sporadic hieroglyphs on the wall seemingly added as an afterthought. It feels far more appropriate for Berlin or Dubai (another design disaster) and immediately gives me the impression the designers never set foot in a single ancient monument in Egypt.
    The structure couldn't be more pompous or arrogant. That's because in our first glimpse of the artifacts, they are absolutely dwarfed by the modern construction. These massive stone achievements are both completely diminished by the totally inappropriate ceiling height and concealed amidst all the modern details on the wall and ceiling. This structure takes all the attention away from the magnificent achievements of the ancients and puts it on ourselves. It is so self-congratulatory. A proper museum doesn't compete with the art, it showcases it.
    Literally removing an obelisk from its connection to the earth and hideously putting it in the air with a black cage-like box is the perfect metaphor for this place. The developers have disconnected our connection with this culture and have placed pointless garish modern construction as the new focal point. Shame on the designers, I would take these architects and throw them in the Nile!
    The luxury shopping was the icing on the cake. Why are they showcasing luxury European-style handbags in an ancient Egyptian museum? If you're going to sell things, where are all the local indigenous crafts that still have their ancient roots alive, and why aren't they being celebrated?
    The answer is obvious. This whole project is not about the past, it's about a giant penis-measuring contest to show how Egypt can totally squander a billion dollars just as well as any Western country. Someone forgot to tell the developers that Egypt doesn't need all this contemporary drivel to be grand, it already is.

      A point of view that deserves consideration, but I believe that these pieces should be displayed in a wonderful and modern place, and even this building takes into account the design of the ancient engineering of the ancient Egyptians. On the contrary, I see that it is very wonderful and will add to the world a giant museum

    "The british museum can't give Egypt their items back because the BM can care for the items better" you people have seen this museum right? It's fairly advanced for today's time it's MASSIVE the security from what I've heard is pretty impressive and the archive isn't going to end up being a throw away space for all the stuff they don't display it'll actually be used properly honestly if anything Egypt should take BRITAINS cultural artifacts because between the two museums Egypt can care for Britain's artifacts better than they themselves can especially now and let's not even mentioned the massive amount of thefts from the BM lately

    As an Egyptian im a bit dissapointed.. The design is alright, but really dont like how they put the statues just randomly sitting there without anything visual to tell what it is.. the ancient Egyptians were big on drawing and explaining things visually i would have loved to see more pictures or drawings about the statues.. They are just sitting there randomly looking like the background.. Again the deisgn is fine but it looks more like a mall rather than ancient Egyptian museum...

  • @tompommerel2136
    @tompommerel2136 8 месяцев назад

    Yes this is incredible, but UNBELIEVABLE in that the decision makers or architects have NO COMPREHENSION of how to showcase the magnificent heritage which this building is supposed to honour. Hubris, with the lack of anything but a superficial aesthetic sense of how the grandeur of Egyptian Architecture was achieved, give this site the look of a poor relative of those 'sparkling' shopping malls or airports of most oil-rich Middle Eastern country. The same goes for Al-Sisi's new capital of Cairo. Ego, hubris and blatant materialistic display reign supreme because this is the only contribution the oil-rich countries of the Middle East have been able to offer the world since this resource was discovered in their lands.

      There’s a charm to the old one for sure, though it’s extremely outdated, and more colonial than the new one is typical of the time.
      There are some really stunning elements of this new one; the steps that overlook the Giza Plateau, the impressive facade that is nearly a 1k long, and of course the integrated facilities for research and preservation. I’m not sure what style would be more suitable?

    I prefer the original museum in Cairo.
    This place has no soul..or vibe...very cold and stark.
    I don't see myself ever visiting this museum.
    ...but I also did not go to the pyramids of Giza on my last visit there.
