    Nico handing Josh that game ball was better than seeing him throw for 300 and 3TDs on Oklahoma. Him, Samp, Pili, and McCoy are wired right and this entire team had bought in behind them

    • @jonahroberson1158
      @jonahroberson1158 Месяц назад +17

      194 yards and 1TD, but Josh definitely deserved the game ball. He looked at the situation and said, "We have to play conservative, take what we can get, and run the clock where OU doesn't have time to figure something out on offense." The fastest offense in college football ran slow, and I don't think that was just because of how loud that first half was. Heupel understands that tempo is a tactic, not a strategy, and he changed his tactics to fit the battle he was fighting. I've been rooting for the Vols ever since Josh got there, and it's great to see how he's built a great culture and a team that can win multiple ways.
      I'm proud of OU's defense for holding the Vols to 2 touchdowns and 345 yards while the OU offense gave the Vols three turnovers. I doubt the Vols will see many games with only that much production, and I hope that leads them to an SEC championship (which looks more attainable this year than in a long time).
      PS Thanks for ripping the band-aid off regarding our QB situation. It hurt, but all we need is our offense to be okay and not turn the ball over to win some big games. This game looks a lot different if OU gets even 6 points off of turnovers on Tennessee's side of the field rather than Jackson handing the ball back to Tennessee immediately both times.

The team plays like a family and is coached well to focus on a nameless opponent and to just get better as a unit. I teared up when I heard his mom passed aways, his father is so respected in knoxville: They brought up this fine young man, we are blessed beyond measure to have Coach Heupel as our coach. We are the luckiest fan base to have such a humble man that treats everyone with so much respect, you can see how much he loves each one of them players. If you ever been to Knoxville, Tennessee UT campus: How many coaches do you see giving a player a fist bump in between classes in the hallway and making sure asking that person if they are doing ok? I'm happy Tennessee and Coach Heup did not run up the score on Oklahoma because it shows Tennessee can beat you in different ways. You want to talk about adversity: The Oklahoma game, beating this team at home by 10 was nothing compared to what he was dealing with even before this game was slated yet, he still won. How about when everyone doubted him when he told everyone Tennessee was going to play elite defense, they did that too, right? I knew from when we got AD Danny White, his choice of hire was Coach Josh Heupel, I heard a lot of doubt because he was coaching UCF but, look at where he put UCF. I was so excited when Danny White said Coach Josh Heupel's name, I was telling other fans: Please give him a chance, We Volunteer fans sometimes don't understand how blessed we are to have Coach Josh Heupel as our coach, beyond measures! Jackson Arnold hasn't impressed (last year, bowl game, spring game, this season). Hit the road Jack(son), and don't come back. The OC and O-line are terrible. A good OC would mitigate a bad O-line (e,g, screen plays, outside sweeps, outside RPO, etc.). Our idiotic OC runs straight up the middle over and over again with a terrible O-line and Tennessee's incredibly good D-line ---Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! There's gonna be about 8 teams capable of winning it all and only one of them can win the title in any given year. Just in the SEC alone there's Tennessee, Texas, Alabama and Georgia. Miami is looking like the real deal, assuming Cristobal doesn't eff things up by not taking a knee -- and no, he's never gonna live that one down. In the B1G, there's of course Oregon, and with their new OC Penn State actually has a complete team now and their defense was championship caliber already. Michigan wasn't going anywhere with "Turnover Machine" Warren at QB but now that they've yanked him for Orji, they have a championship caliber running game and defense. All they need is for Orji to become 2003 Ell Roberson -- pass for 132 a game instead of 32 -- and they're a legit threat again. And in the B12, Be White U looked like the real deal on Saturday, and if Cam Rising ever gets healthy Utah has the same thing Michigan won with last year -- stout defense, elite running game and a veteran QB who makes the plays needed to win.
      So I'm not saying UT will win the title. Too many real teams with chances to pick any one team and say for sure it's their year. Just saying UT resembles that team that did win it all.

      It's not about running up the score. It's about guaranteeing a win. Josh could have called more drop back plays and tried to pull the trigger downfield, but that would have run more risk of turnovers that could have gotten Oklahoma back in the game, in a game where they already had two turnovers within their own 35 yard line. Josh played a different kind of game and won a different way because that was the best recipe to beat OU.
      As an Oklahoma fan, I've seen the Heupel offense run without consideration of game situation and match up. Jeff Lebby ran tempo all day every day. We could be up three touchdowns in the 4th quarter (like Tennessee was in Norman), and Lebby would keep the tempo up and give teams chances to get back in the game. The maturity is knowing when to mix things up and change your game plan, and that's what Heupel did.

    This is a bad take Pate. The complimentary football part is right but you started the segment by saying the game was decided in the first quarter. That is completely wrong. OU D held a high powered offense that was averaging like 50-60 points a game to 25 points. They did that with a terrible offense who couldn’t take advantage of what the OU defense was giving them. 10-14 points were left off the board when OU got the ball on the 5 yard line and around the 30 yard line. That’s your 10-14 pints that would have either tied the game or win it. Not to mention the lucky offsides with contact play at the start of the game where OU would have had a free play result in a TD. I am not trying to play the shoulda woulda coulda stuff. But complimentary football is very important to help stats on the other side of the football. If the offense was opportunistic and actually could sustain more than 2 good drives the entire game, Tennessee would have been easily held to 200-250 yards. The biggest glaring issue was unfortunately Jackson Arnold. Turnovers aside, the dude makes dumb decisions. He has bad tunnel vision. Throws to his first reads. Hands the ball off when he should tuck it and run or throw. Tucks it when he should give it to his running back. And throws a ball into triple coverage, where another receiver would literally need to make 1 skill move after the catch to go all the way. First play of the game he is indecisive and the play results in negative yards. That loss is almost completely attributed to poor QB play. Sure the line didn’t help much, but if we start Hawkins in that game, I am pretty confident we would have won or at the very least cover the spread. I’m extremely proud of the defense as they could only do so much as they are getting tired.

    Make no mistake, the best unit on the field last night was OU's defense. I feel like Josh neglected to talk about that fact.

      Yet Tennessee had 350 yards of offense and held the ball for 35 minutes..oh and played with out 2 starting tackles for most of the game. OU is gonna be 8-4 at best this year, and if they are luck they might get to play in a pointless bowl game 😂😂😂😂😂 GO VOLS

      @knoxvilledoobie8549 Overall the Vols were the better team, obviously. But once again, OU's defense is just straight up better than Tennessee's offense right now. Also, if you want to play the injury game, OU's defense was missing 2 starters and another player that would be getting a ton of snaps if he was healthy.

      @Mcyoloswaggy69 oklahoma has a good defense..J.H showed a lot of respect for oklahoma by pumping the brakes in the second half.. Make no mistake.There were opportunities for tennessee to score a couple more touchdowns. We ran the ball 50 plus times.. i think we only attempted 6 passes in the second half..Tennessee typically is a balance offense. We still had one hundred and 150 rushing.

      @@knoxvilledoobie8549lol right we could’ve aired it out. We just didn’t want any unnecessary injuries as we enter SEC play.

    Hawkins isn't saving OU. OU has a terrible O line and they don't have any offensive weapons from RB, TE or WR. They aren't good enough for him to change the season with better QB play.

    Could you fix the graphic? OU's defense is much better than what you give them credit for.

    Tennessee has some things to fix. They will see much better offenses. Teams will use this game as a blueprint just like teams will use the USF blitz problems it caused Bama. These coordinators get paid a lot of money to figure things out.
