As a Californian and avid tri tip BBQer I have to say that looks great. There’s 2 essential things for a good tip, temp and cutting it correctly and you nailed both. Try cutting it up for tacos next time with cheese and homemade guacamole. It’s incredible.

Love it bro! I’m out just north of Santa Maria, the tri tip came up here from the Portuguese folks who settled early. It’s the influence past down the generations. Similar to German culture in central Texas. You have to get some Linguica cooked up to go with it. You’ll love it, it’s absolutely amazing. Much love big dog!

Looks terrific, Arnie! My pa loves his bbq rare and his gameplan for tri-tip is to pull right around ~128 and let it sit 5-10 minutes.
A thick old piece of meat like that will hold a LOT of heat, so he gives the residual heat plenty of time to permeate and keeps it nice and juicy. My favorite part of tri-tip dinner as a kid was dipping bread in the meat juices!!

I got out of the Navy 30 years ago next month. One of my shipmates was TexMex and he introduced many of us to this version of the Tri Tip for BBQ season. Been doing it this way since then. One of my favorite beef meals and you did it perfectly down to slicing it!

As a California man I approve. A lot of people don’t know but California has a BBQ style. It’s simple but really good. It’s a lot of tri tip with salt pepper and garlic. Somthing similar to arnies OG rub. I usually use Susie Q’s original. It’s not as common as tri tip but we have a lot of chicken and turkey and if ur lucky the occasional duck too.
