As a Californian and avid tri tip BBQer I have to say that looks great. There’s 2 essential things for a good tip, temp and cutting it correctly and you nailed both. Try cutting it up for tacos next time with cheese and homemade guacamole. It’s incredible.
Looks terrific, Arnie! My pa loves his bbq rare and his gameplan for tri-tip is to pull right around ~128 and let it sit 5-10 minutes. A thick old piece of meat like that will hold a LOT of heat, so he gives the residual heat plenty of time to permeate and keeps it nice and juicy. My favorite part of tri-tip dinner as a kid was dipping bread in the meat juices!!
Love it bro! I’m out just north of Santa Maria, the tri tip came up here from the Portuguese folks who settled early. It’s the influence past down the generations. Similar to German culture in central Texas. You have to get some Linguica cooked up to go with it. You’ll love it, it’s absolutely amazing. Much love big dog!
Don't forget the Linguica, you get out of Santa Maria, you can't find it. Had to resort to making my own. This recipe is better than Silva Bros. ruclips.net/video/jNJReTTAhyg/видео.html
Yep I am born and raised in California and love tri-tip my whole life. Now living in San Anto Texas and I love that I'm now seeing tri-tip more often in stores here
I can’t watch any of your videos until around an hour or so before supper time. I get really hungry and wreck my appetite if i watch em any other time. Thanks for the content!😎😎
I got out of the Navy 30 years ago next month. One of my shipmates was TexMex and he introduced many of us to this version of the Tri Tip for BBQ season. Been doing it this way since then. One of my favorite beef meals and you did it perfectly down to slicing it!
A guy I worked with moved from California and we were talking about grilling. Well I was. He mentioned the tritip. I had never heard of it. He Saud its a very popular cut in Cali. I was happy to find one at the store. I cooked it nice and slow and was very impressed. Great price too.
my fave method for tri tip is smoke at 225 until internal is about 125/135. pan sear in butter. rest for about 20 min and slice up with chimichurri sauce drizzled on top.
As a California man I approve. A lot of people don’t know but California has a BBQ style. It’s simple but really good. It’s a lot of tri tip with salt pepper and garlic. Somthing similar to arnies OG rub. I usually use Susie Q’s original. It’s not as common as tri tip but we have a lot of chicken and turkey and if ur lucky the occasional duck too.
Ya this is a California Cowboy cut. Its used all over cali. Quivk and easy to cook. If done right its perfect for tailgating, camping, and backyard parties.
They got tri tip up north too. I work in the oil field and up in North Dakota and Wyoming they love that cut. I'd never had it before but I've lived in east and central TX my whole life.
It's not Santa Maria style if it isn't coated with Susie Q seasoning and grilled over Coastal Live Red oak. Oh, and don't forget the Pinquito beans. Arnie is a great teacher.
35 - 40 years ago we got tri-tip with a quarter inch fat on one side, and always cooked it with the fat side down with all that fat steaming up into the coals. It’s a great cut of meat with a grape flavor.
It was kinda hard to find this cut a couple years but looks like the tri-tip got hip and moved to Texas so our new Cali friends would have something to grill 😂. I put a Texas twist on my tri-tip by smoking it in my offset to 127deg and searing it over wood in the firebox. Comes out amazing!
I’m from Los Angeles and I personally low and slow it 8 hours at 200* 😋 shred it then give it a little more bark then add habaneros lime guacamole cilantro onions ✅
I'm from SoCal and I don't trust Texans to cook my BBQ but I think you did pretty good. Looks juicy, which is the key to a good tri-tip instead of that dry brisket that ya'll like to cook with the sauce on the side.
As a Kansas City boy, I can’t stand tri tip. Tried some of the best California had to offer and still just wasn’t too impressed. Just doesn’t beat a strip or a ribeye.
For 30 years, I used to bring a cooler of frozen Tri-Tip home to OK when I visited family in CA. Within the last 3 years it has started showing up. I bought a box of Tri-Tip from Sam's the last time I wanted some, they still carry it here.
where did you get the tri-tip? Every time i try to buy this in the rgv they always want to give me picanha. I don't want to be an ass and just let it go.
All you need for seasoning is SPG!!...We marinade ours with beer, SPG, and some Lemon...Bomb...Grew up on the central coast next to Santa Maria. Gotta cook it over red oak too 👍
Tri Tip is the most underrated cut!
For real. And it’s inexpensive

Tri tip tacos sound like heaven. You guys are both geniuses. 🙏
You’re a Texas boy that knows what he’s doing. Love ya Arnie!

Everything you make always look good man!! Es todo💪🏻
The wow factor is definitely there with that tri tip. Cheers, Arnie! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
Good job buddy from a Santa Maria boy!
Santa Maria knows how to bbq and party 100%, nothing better

Try to char it up in direct heat . Then put it in indirect heat till it comes to temp
Thanks for the video and tips! I like your set up a lot. Where did you get that rotatory base for the grill?
Tri tip is my favorite.

Just good old bbq NO FANCY ASS EQUIPMENT love it
I’d say offset cook it in a charcoal grill and don’t touch it but 3 flips to sear and that’s it comes out juicy and tender

Hey buddy I recommend trying Leathas Bbq if you’re ever around hattiesburg Ms! It’s delicious and famous
Skirt is my favorite beef but tri tip and hanger are a close second,

I'm a vato loco 😎😜 from Santa Maria Califas. Home of the Tri-Tip. That sure looks good boss man.
Tri tip is a constant in my house. However I just use a cast iron skillet. Sear each side for 5 min, then throw in the oven for 20 min at 400.
My dad couldn’t have done better. Well done!
I see what you did there...
@@RaisinBran80s he didint do anything?
Yo dad can’t do this stfu😂

Tri-tip is friggin delicious. 135F/5 hours in sous vide and it’s beef butter following a mayo sear.
🙈🤣
Looks amazing
Looks Good, Arnie!
I sure do like your videos and great attitude 👍
Santa Maria style ain't got nothing on my guy Arnie's tri-tip that looks delicious. As a Californian, approved!
The best tri-tip on the central coast!
Nah bro lol...805 Tri Tip is king
@@jojofinssunswhitesox3560 Santa Maria is the 805 tho

Buenas jefe! Would love to visit Texas and try some bbq any recommendations from any of you Texas legends? Saludos
As a Texan, I don't like to admit when California is right, but they are right about tritip
That looks so delicious 😋
Brought up on tri-tip California ranchero
Cali boy here and you did perfect.👌🏻
Looks good brother
Good looking tri tip.
Awesome looking food
Welcome to California Love TRI-TIP👍🤤🙌🎉🙌
Some tri-tip getting some love!
Damn good cook on that man
Tri tip is valued in my house in PNW425. I grill and char, then finished as a pot roast. Damn fine!!
Amazing I did not know California was where the tritip was at, I've had it every other weekend this summer with the inlaws!
YES, SIR 🌳
GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS 😁🇺🇸😎
CALI LOVE🙏😁😎
Thanks Texas boy good vibes
The true California BBQ
As a Kansas City boy, I can’t stand tri tip. Tried some of the best California had to offer and still just wasn’t too impressed. Just doesn’t beat a strip or a ribeye.
Sous vide it for a few hours dude. Then hard reverse sear it. Tri tip equals filet mignon. 🤘🏼🤫
Damn im trying to grow a broom like this man but i just done have the genes lol!
I used to live in Santa Maria! Nothing makes a good tri-tip like red oak!
I love you man
That my brother looks fantastic
That's my cut right there 🤙🏽🤙🏽
I can smell this yum
400 degrees 12-15 mins a lb, it’s just as good as pichana
Yeaaaah 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Goes great with some salsa verde!!
Let him cook!
Bro you can smoke it like a brisket also and i will be fire. The bbq restaurant I worked at in sacramento did it and it was ⛽️
Theres another name for the cut in midwest I cant remember it tho
Bro i want this guy to be my dad
🔥
PERFECT! 😋💣💥🥳💯
Makes amazing street tacos
Puro central cali aqui wey!!! Shaow I bbq at least 4 times a week
Try it in a Weber kettle or something similar with indirect heat and smoke. And chop up the leftovers for tacos. So good.
No just stop! Tri tip needs to be cooked on open fire grill preferably a Santa Maria style pit with red oak! The best and only way to cook a tip
@@frankporraz7194 Guess I go against the grain. 😂
@@WalkerSmallEnginePerformance 😂🤣😂 good one
I just ate 15 minutes ago and I'm from California
Isn't that Guillermo?🤔😁😁
❤
Tried looking for a tri-tip everywhere in the midwest. I don't know if they just call it something different or what is going on

All these years I've been cutting those the wrong way 😮....
I think the mustache is affecting his shpeach.
How do you say diezmillo in english? I cant find the translation for that meat lol
Chuck steak
@@ArnieTex I saw it but I was unsure lol thank you!
Pulled at 135? Try pulling next time at 123. Way better.
God I wanna be friends with this guy so bad
Not bad for a texas boy.
Never trim the fat cap leave it for next time
That's a small tri-tip
Boooom!
Will you adopt me ?
Not bad for Texas???…..you kno there literally a bbq sauce name after you???
Smoked is better
Young lisp
I'll take tri-tip every over brisket
