Realizing it is my choice and my choice alone to be a Reconnaissance Marine, I accept all challenges involved with this profession. Forever shall I strive to maintain the tremendous reputation of those who went before me.

Should have been Recon in the seventies, just after Vietnam. Every swinging dick over the rank of LCpl had combat experience. It was a blast being there as the unit transitioned from war to peacetime. Lots of running helps pass the time.

Recon was MARSOC ,Now it's replaced by a group who everyone loves except me which are the marine Raiders.Raiders never go on water.It's basically a recreated version of the Green Berets.But to be fare,Raiders are quite cool.

Why did the marines form MARSOC instead of just making Force Recon part of SOCOM? These guys are more thsn capable of exceeding in SOCOM

ott mick wrong, Force Recon still exists along with Recon Battalions. MARSOC was formed by selecting the best guys from Force Recon Teams & thus creating MARSOC which is in the SOCOM community. Force Recon & Recon Battalions are SOC (special operations capable) reason them not being under SOCOM is because the Marine Corps wanted to keep them exclusive to the Marine Corps & to only be commanded under Marine Corps commandment.
