  • 2006 Hummer H3. Came in with no blower on any speeds. Customer suspected faulty blower motor. They said they smacked it and it worked for a few days. Nice, quick and easy video going through the simple testing to rule out the cause without any guessing.
On these issues I like to start by putting a high current test light across the blower connector and just seeing if I have a faulty blower. On this vehicle the blower connector is a little harder to get to. But the resistor connector and the high speed blower relay connector are very easy to get to. Looking at the wiring diagram I see that I can do all my testing from those two. No need to check fuses when you have easy access to the components!

Thank you so much for this video. It saved me a ton of time. This is exactly what was wrong with mine also. Very much Appreciate it!

Had to come back and leave a comment on this one. Really easy video to follow at the proper pace. The simple wiring diagram worked really well too. Easily navigated right to the exact same issue. I appreciate the video.

@Jason Brown Awesome! Glad you liked it! It's just me and the boss-man (mid 60s) at work. That's why I started the RUclips. I miss being able to share things with people!

i have no fan speeds at all and when testing the resistor the light doesn’t light up on any of the wires what could be wrong

@hunterbond6054 The other end of your test light is attached to a good power? Like when you touch it to some other clean ground does it light? These wires on the blower motor resistor are supposed to be grounds for the fan. But ya, if your light isn't lighting at all and you're making a good connection with your test light then you could have a bad ground wire to the HVAC module or a problem with the switch in the module. Or somewhere in the yellow wire that goes from the resistor to the HVAC module (speed selector switch). Let me know what you find!

My blower motor quit yesterday. If I test the blower motor, the exact same way, and I have power at the relay
and the resistor gives a " light " at all wire points at connector, then the blower motor is junk?

@Michael Bernat Probably so. Especially if you don't have fan at any speed. If you have power at the Brown wire of the high speed relay and a good ground at the Orange wire of the resistor then it's most likely a fan. There are two Orange wires so you could just set it to Hi and should have good ground at both Orange wires. But, if you have all that then you, most likely, have a bad fan. It's possible, but unlikely, that the wiring in between those and the fan went bad. I would pull the connector off the resistor and make sure it's not burned up. If it looks fine then I would say you have a bad fan. Try putting your fan to Hi setting and smacking the fan. A bad DC motor usually comes to life when you hit it.

Too bad you posted this video one year ago. There might be an open recall for the can blower switch. Had one on ours after we had paid to replace it. Didn't get a refund and they still replaced it again and told me if the dealer had done the job we could get our money back.

People who own hummers don't deserve a working HVAC
