    I would like to invite you all to engage in a discussion with me about the conclusion of this video. Regardless of wether a fat or a peaky sound is the one that is supposed to seem louder, do you think that we want things to be loud in the first place? Maybe it's better to make quiet music, because it's so soft that it can be turned up loud with less caution than music that already seems loud when it's still quiet. Let me know what y'all think!

    Oh wow, I never expected one of my polls to make it onto a reaction video. Thank you lol.

      @@realisticproductionsLLC yeah, i kinda like mixing polls, but youtube's character limit often makes them cartoonishly superficial. it often makes me feel like there should be a bigger discussion about the details

      @@Beatsbasteln It's definitely tricky & there are times when I wish I could have more detail. I feel like that with Shorts too; it's very hard with certain topics to fit the whole process in under 60 seconds. But RUclips's algorithm really likes to push those Shorts, polls, & caption posts for people's short attention spans lol.

      @@realisticproductionsLLC if I was more serious about being a content creator I'd have to make lots of shorts, but I just don't like it most of the time. It's more fun to make medium sized videos pleasant to watch

    Take peak loudness out of the equation and what you have as variables is density and micro-dynamics. Smash your drums with a limiter and you get more density but really flat micro-dynamics. Use parallel compression, you use the attack and release controls to make the micro-dynamics maybe more enjoyable to listen to at the expense of potential overall density.

    yeah for me its almost never about headroom because i typically dont want very defined drums. if increasing loudness is the goal, ill clip

      clipping just swaps dynamics for harmonics, but it doesn't mean people are going to listen to it loud

      @@Beatsbasteln i know what your mean but to me "loudness" just means pushing more peaks toward 0, like technically, not making something epic that people turn up.

      @@ColonelMidi but why would something technical like that have priority over something emotional?

    • @ColonelMidi
      @ColonelMidi Месяц назад

      @@Beatsbasteln it doesnt. its just that how i see it, loudness is a technical concept, not an emotional one

      @Beatsbasteln  Месяц назад

      @ColonelMidi in that case i agree with everything you said. i personally always believed that loudness, aka density, has a desirable emotional quality

    I guess its a question of the style you do. E.g. it seems that a lot of DubStep-Tracks seem to aim at a very loud mix. As for me I try to keep my mixes at around -11 to -12 LUFS, that way I still have enough dynamic and its not too quiet compared with other tracks. Of course such a track cannot compete with DubStep-Tracks but that doesnt matter for me as I am working in another style. But to be honest I would prefer a "clean" mix more than a loud lifeless possibly clipping mix. But maybe I am a bit old fashioned. At least thats my personal oppinion. Take it or leave it ;) Oh and thanks for the subscription!

      yeah, it's like almost a rhetorical question, isn't it? ofc the mix just needs to sound good, whatever the values say. my problem was just how a mix with increased peaks was supposed to be the louder one in that poll
