One of the reasons why people HAVE to understand and acknowledge who Joseph Smith is, is that he is a type of Joseph of Egypt but for the latter days. If you don't acknowledge a Joseph in Egypt situation, then the rest of Egypt perishes. And isn't that the situation we're in?
When you look at youtube footage of the metro areas of the US now, especially on the coasts, its starting to look and show how bad this country is. You can see actual real, drug zombies now. Now you can see real homeless tent cities, often from drugs, but some from just chronic illness also, and mass falling into ruin. And other filth. But it only started to get that way after we kicked God out of the country, and began oppressing religion and other virtues. And its showing how bad its becoming, just like a famine, only its spiritual famine instead.

I actually like the idea that Joseph was home schooled and a farmer. BECAUSE it means he did not participate in social class warfare as talked about in Hel. 6, 3rd Nephi 6, and 4th Nephi, which was sourced to be a major cause of their destruction. So it is not negative to many.

Joseph Smiith taught of this land simple, at the time this land scarsly went past the Mississippi. Joseph latter corrected the Pratt Brothers Lehi sailed past the cap of new hope and landed somewhere near Florida and thus this land.
