Actually, they skipped a lot of content from the book. That they didn't explored and adapted in this adaptation. Such as the relationship between Toranaga and his other son. Or Blackthorne and Fuji (Fujiko in the Novel)'s relationship. And his marriage to Kiku-san in the novel. I think it is safe to say they can do a sequel of sorts. Great video ❤

I would definitely prefer a continuation of the current storyline with seeing how Toranag becomes the Shogun, Blackthorne might build the fleet for him and how he deals with the regents after the big battle. I can forego the huge battle as those scenes have been done in other films like the Last Samurai and Ran. I would much prefer seeing the interactions btwn Toranaga and Anjin, the rest of the regents and how Toranaga deals with the Catholics and Portuguese. Whether they keep the deal to allow Anijin to live or try to kill him again. And the scene with the brothel going up next to the Church in Edo would be hilarious. Of course, lets not rule out flashbacks with Mariko and Yabushige thrown in for good measure since they were both such beloved characters .

I agree as well, the acting, writing, dialog & world it was set in was all done so well that i didn't even care about the lack of battles either. This was a great character piece that focused more on good story, character development & political intrigue, & it worked well i thought. I think a big portion of today's audience is always looking for a big spectacle, but any halfway decent writing can throw together a fight/battle scene. But to craft a world like this & make it as intriguing as it was without all the spectacle, is the mark of great storytelling imo.

Could easily create 5-6 seasons by copying history books.
Season 2: Battle of Sekigahara, sieges of Osaka Castle resulting in the tragic deaths of Lady Ochiba and the heir, end of the Portuguese monopoly as Tokugawa opens up trade with the Dutch thanks to William Adams (Blackthorne), Blackthorne marries, has children and dies without ever seeing England again.
Season 3: Tokugawa’s son becomes Shōgun and seeks to expunge all foreign influence. Sakoku Edict. Expulsion of all foreigners and mixed race Japanese (including Blackthorne’s children). Extreme persecution of Christians.
Season 4: Jump 200 years to the Boshin War that resulted in the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and beginning of the Meiji restoration.
Season 5-6: Prequels to season 1 starting with reign of Oda Nobunaga including Akechi betrayal (Lady Mariko’s family), continuing with Toyotomi’s tenure which sets up the conflict between Toranaga and Ishida.

@@JeremyIceAndFire33 the letter Ochiba sent to Toranaga cannot be made public; otherwise the heir and his mother is dead. As the show has revealed, Japanese politics is more passive aggresive than the european court; so i would think that in season 2, us as the audience will be left guessing who is allied with who even into the battle.

@@JeremyIceAndFire33 we will never ever get it. Just look at how Japanese talk about him (and how he's briefly portrayed in Shogun as the "old Shogun" not even naming him), he's basically seen as a Hitler-esque figure even 400 years later. Nobunaga shat all over traditional Japanese culture including monks, but was a champion of the common people, arming them with 100s of thousands of firearms and humiliating the entire samurai class and culture. As well as being responsible for many foreign influences reversed under the tokugawa shogunate.
Just look at how it was portrayed in shogun. Firearms are mysteriously absent except for a couple of scenes despite being Japan being the worlds biggest gunpowder nation at the time (bar cannons) akira kurosawa's "Ran" has a much more accurate depiction of gunpowder's use at the time.
And Nobunaga is frequently portrayed as insane because he killed a lot of monks and samurai, but they all killed A LOT of people the only difference is that nobunaga killed the kinds of people who could write about it. He's arguably the inventor of Japan and he's seen as a footnote in history.

I'm against this. For now. However, a prequel leading up to Shogun could be like two shows in one. If they covered the intrigue building up to Sekigahara, while telling the story of Blackthorne's journey through the Straits of Magellan, it would be a story of immense scope while bringing back the entire cast. I see difficulty in giving Fuji a big enough role to feature her. That would be a bummer. But we could see a Blackthorne very different from the one we saw, who got a little sidelined in this version.

We certainly didn’t all love the ending, many found it anticlimactic. Not just because of how the battle was handled, but this was prompted as a war show with no war. So I understand why a lot of ppl didn’t like the ending. It did have an incomplete feeling, it felt more like a season 1 finale rather than a series finale

Seriously doubt a sequel season will ever happen. A better idea would be for the producers of Shogun to consider a remake of "Tai-Pan" in a similar 10-episode format. Tai-Pan is Clavell's other mega-blockbuster novel based on the founding of Hong Kong and it has all the fascinating elements that Shogun has. Many years ago Dino di Laurentiis made this really bad, cheesy film based on Tai-Pan and now seems an opportune time for a total remake, as they did with the 1980 Shogun TV mini-series. Keep it fresh.
