The Music Producer´s Handbook is by far one of the greatest materials about music production, I may say that almost every thing I know about songwriting, arraenging and producing I learned from Bobby, whom I respect and apreciate greatly. Thank you so much for this webinars and for sharing them with all of us Mr Owsinski.
For sure Mr. Owsinski; and let me tell you the Music Producer´s Handbook is not the only book I have bought by you, I also have The Mixing Engineer´s and The Audio Mastering Handbook, and each of them is a treasure. I admire you greatly, and would be an honor if you share my comment.
I just discovered you last week when I watched your video about homemade room acoustical treatments, and you are now among my select few favorites I go to for objective tutorials and solutions. Fantastic work, good sir knight.
Thank you for the generosity of information here! I've owned copies of Recording...Handbook and Mixing...Handbook for years, and they are bibles for me. Always grateful for your work!
Bobby! - although right now I'm not in a financial position to purchase the whole caboodle! - Please believe me when I say that after updating my humble little bedroom studio (which I'm about 1/3rd of the way through and hopefully will be done by the end of this year) The very first thing I'm gonna do is start saving (I'm a lowely bin man in a factory working for minimum wage) to get the full Monty! No bullshit my friend - I hold you and certain other guys in high esteem - but After watching this vid - I'm currently applying the techniques to a project I'm working on and already it's gone from sounding like a 'bedroom demo track' to a full blown 'wow, Wow WOW! production - Thak you so very much Bobby! -BIG RESPECT TO YOU! x x x
Hi Bobby. Bjørn ' s studio from Norway here. I have just seen some of you're videos, and I must say I've found them very interesting. maid me curious about 101 mixing tricks. great job Bobby 👍
I moved into a new house and one room is 10' x 10' x 10', another is 11' x 11' x 10'. Saw your lecture at Nimbus and when you said the 10x10 is the worst case scenario I wanted to pull my waist length hair out! I've been looking forward to applying all your great tricks and now this. Any suggestions? Not my house so I can take out walls...
Right on Bobby, ... Rick in Bay Area, always interested in this stuff ... "The Radio Sound" Your the only other person I've heard reference this. That's exactly how i describe it, back in the day 4trks loaded on thee old Tascam 4trk back then and "wala" there it is (not quite) back then woa~! lol
Great video! I'd love to join 101mixtricks but that'll have to wait so I've to rely on my trusty "Mischen wie die Profis" (Mixing Engineer's Handbook). As you might read it yourself I just wanted to say thanks. Without the book (especially the interviews) I don't think I would have found the confidence to begin mixing my music myself and so I possibly never would have started my channel here. And now I released 8 songs within half-a-year and I personally can hear the improvements song to song...so: thanks!
What is a good range for the release time of the limiter? How fast is "too fast". Also, I hear people refer to attack and release times as "fast, medium, & slow". To you, what general ranges fit into each of those 3 categories?
Hi Bobby I love these tips. Regarding the big reverb trick should you just use this trick on one instrument or can you use this on drums and vocals too? Would this trick be overkill if you used it on most instruments in a mix? cheers!
Great great video! I do have a question. If you do the loudness trick, can you send that track to a mastering engineer? Or should I keep the bus uncompressed? Thanks!
It used to be that mastering engineers would want the uncompressed mix but not anymore, Daniel. Buss compression is such a big part of the sound of the mix that it changes when you take it off. Mastering engineers are used to getting it in that way.
Had another question if you don't mind? If I want to leave some headroom for the mastering, would I just set the limiter to a lower ceiling? Like -4 db or is this unnecessary? Thanks!
Not necessary anymore. The headroom isn't as important as the dynamic range actually, but mastering engineers are now used to dealing with loud mixes. To be safe, contact your mastering engineer first and ask what he or she recommends.
First of all, thank you very much for the great tips, i really apreciate. But im confused about the The Awesome Airy Vocal Trick: the duplicated track, the eq and compressor is mono or stereo?should i be concerned about this? im asking because if i want to route the vocals to a vocal group/AUX channel? should be Mono or Stereo? Thank you very much, i really apreciate. Sincerally, Joao Bem
@@whome806 In this case, there is no output level control on the compressor, only makeup gain. In the case of one with both, it's a combination of the two so you don't get any overloads.
If you increase the compressors output and have a limiter after the compressor it will make the limiter work much harder than if you'd boost the volume on your limiters output. So you're sending more dbs into the limiter, making it work harder. Which will give an undesirable sound.
I got to 1:18 and heard multiple times how you have a book... and it's in more college programs than all the others. meh for me, I'm looking for a more humble approach.

Popular radios will always play loud songs because radio is often played in places with enviromental sounds. But I get your point and I agree with you, music should be produced more dynamic. The loudness thing is going down

Hey Bobby, you were my professor back at Trebas Institute in the late 80's. Great to see you are still at it!
Very cool, Daniel. How you doing?
I'm great thank you. I worked in the music business until 1999. I really miss it.

What is a good range for the release time of the limiter? How fast is "too fast". Also, I hear people refer to attack and release times as "fast, medium, & slow". To you, what general ranges fit into each of those 3 categories?
It all depends on the tempo of the track.

Hey Bobby, considering buying the course, is there a fair amount of overlap for EDM production/mixing?
It doesn't matter what genre of music or what DAW you're using, all the techniques will work.

Usually mono, Joao.
Why are you increasing the make-up gain and not the output?
Which section are you referring to?

These loudness advises are outdated. Dynamic is the new Loud.
what are you talking about? unless your mixing a film to 88 dbfs then i would understand having dynamic range as part of your final mix
Popular radios will always play loud songs because radio is often played in places with enviromental sounds. But I get your point and I agree with you, music should be produced more dynamic. The loudness thing is going down
Not according to Taylor Swift's producers. Lover is LOUD!
