I remember being told by my mom to count sheep when I couldn't sleep (I was like 6 or 7). I promptly counted to 100, stood up and told mom about this achievement. Well, she decided it would be a good idea to count to a 1000... Her poor soul
Several cartoons by Gary Larson are featured in this video. Larson was well-known for one/two panel cartoons that often involved wordplay or double entendre. He is actually quite funny (my favorites have always been the ones featuring animals), and has quite a large fandom among scientists; a few different species have been named either for him or in reference to his work. It's pretty cool. 45:45 Munch's "The Scream" is reacting to the eruption of Krakatoa. I learned about it in an art history class I took in my first year of college. I don't know if Munch witnessed the event himself or painted this after reading (distant) witness accounts.
Yeah! Larson wrote a comic strip called “The Far Side” which was mostly one-panel comics with clever captions. It’s one of my dad’s favorite comic strips.
I love these, I could watch these Good Boomer Humor videos all day and not get bored, this is my 3rd one today! The other two were the normal length ones, wish they were both an hour long!

2:07 There was a gag in Elemental where one of the cloud people "grew" eyes in the back of their head after someone asked if they have eyes in the back of the head
6:47 Out of context, I did not expect "You belong were you are!" to cut THAT deep as an insult. Hit me with that sh*t IRL and I'm going home to cry. That is devastating.
2:43 "Impurities" can be and sometimes are intentional - "watered-down" gasoline has been known to be sold in various countries, especially in places that are less regulated or where the inspections are weak.
Dearest Robin, Regarding the engineers in a car joke: 1) Getting out the car and back in again is totally a thing now with modern cars, especially Teslas. 2) The impurities in the gasoline is totally a thing. The petrol station at my local supermarket recently had an issue with contaminated E5. Lots of cars broke down and had to have their petrol tanks drained by roadside assistance. Some needed new injectors/engine work. 3) when I heard that joke for the first time about 20 years ago, the IT engineer said to close all the Windows and open them again
There was an outer limits episode in the 90’s where a dude grew eyes in the back of his head, I don’t know if that’s what you were remembering but it was horrifying
1:42 this actually happened in the original ducksong...the one with the lemonade stand...the lemonade stand guy threatened to glue to duck to a tree and leave him there stuck all day
10:00 yes I tried counting sheep, but since its all about keeping your fucking brain from spinning, I suggest rain sounds and imagining the rain or more precise a place in that rain. Keeps my mind quite acceptable from circling to much.
(the ultimate Dorothy Zbornak comeback for having found Jesus) "Yeah, I found him about 17 minutes before you knocked, but I hid him again-you go find him this time" as for impurities in the gas, yeah, it's called H2O
46:24 An art history teacher I had a year ago had explained to us that likely the painting (or just the colors in the background themselves) is meant to be a representation of what the sky looked like after the 1883 Mt. Krakatoa eruption in Indonesia. The eruption caused the sky to change colors, and these colors were visible all the way to (reportedly) Norway. Now knowing about the diary entry since I looked this information up again to make this comment, the figure's expression makes a lot more sense, but after seeing how fires in Canada made New York look like the set of a dystopian story, and there was even the time in the USA in 1950 where smoke from wildfires (also from Canada lol) covered much of the northeastern US and blotted out the sun (and people thought it was the end of the world)... The expression still would make sense. You'd probably react the same way if you thought it was the beginning of the end, too.
30:10 what do YOU mean its you're? "You are entire species species is dyslexic" is what you think it's supposed to say? Your is the possessive, they used the right one.
As someone with mechanical experience who often diagnosis his friend's car issues, I have to say that "it won't start" it's always maddeningly vague. If the car cranks but will not start, only the chemical engineer might be correct. If the car will not even crank, the chemical engineer can't possibly be correct. Unless the impurities in the gas are somehow responsible for the complete loss of the electrical system which doesn't seem very likely.
I'm so used to people misspelling "psychics" that my brain tried to autocorrect this to "physics" which made no sense. Also I'm gonna say that because that one guy got on the plane, it still befell the fate the psychics predicted. Maybe they just didn't want to share a plane with him? 😆
So i HAVE tried counting sheep. The point is that when you mess up you start back at 1. The point is kinda to make yourself so bored that you drift off

Don’t count sheep but I pick a number like 65 and count on my fingers until I’m down to one finger. Have different patterns to do this by and usually go to sleep by the third pattern.
To avoid the box of cords I go through ours every now and then and if it's too old, if it's a specific cord that only goes to one thing we no longer have, or it doesn't work I get rid of it.
