  • Though never a big seller in Australia, Alfa Romeo has been a niche but stable occupier of our roads from the second half of last century, aided by a migrant Italian population for whom the brand was often synonymous with objects of desire. Adelaide-based washing machine manufacturer Lightburn even assembled a very limited number of them on our shores in the mid-60s, while later in the decade they competed strongly at prominent races like the Hardie Ferodo 500 at Bathurst.
The Alfa Romeo brand is one of the more polarising car marques. Though most can agree that Alfas tend to be stylish 'driver's cars' (motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson famously stated that 'you can't be a true petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa'), others will quickly point to reliability and build quality issues of some of their models, like the infamous Alfasud.

I was interested to hear your comment on warming up the car before driving off. These Alfas were fitted with a choke for a cold start and next to the choke lever is a hand throttle to set the engine to run faster than tickover. My father was fastidious about running his Alfa for at least five minutes,or longer on a cold English winter morning which also had the benefit of letting the heater to begin warming up the interior. These are still my favourite Alfas but sadly out of my price range now. Oh well, I'll just have to stick with my old Ducati.

    Very good condition!
I have been owning same car since 1986 in Japan. My 1750GTV is also very good running condition, but has some cracks on the instrument panel.
