Just did this same test with my cell phone. You can view the sound waves in audacity (app/program), and measure in milliseconds the timing of echoes. I tapped three times to verify consistency, which all checked out perfectly when viewing wav file.
I would be curious how accurate the tool with increasing depths. In colorado, static levels can be 300-500 deep. Let's us know how the 250 foot static level works.. Thanks for the video..
What do you use to find the bottom of a well ? I live in N. Central Tn where there are allot of springs, our well static water level is 60' but I want to measure the distance to the bottom also. I tried gluing 1/2" pvc together but a few feet below the static water level the pvc was vibrating so fast I decided to stop for fear of breaking it. I'm guessing the well has a water vein but still how would you suggest to find the bottom of the well? Reason I am asking is the house is 1890 and didn't get electric till the late 50's so I have no idea what someone else has done with the well. One dry year we did have the well pump start to suck air so I'd like to know what I'm working with. Thanks
I don't think they would run you off the job site if you showed up with a fishing pole to test the water level but I bet would have a harder time paying you engineer wages. Cool tool I to will stick with the fishing pole with a bobber and sinker and my tape measure.

+engineer775 Seems like it would be better designed for the cord to come out of the front or top of the sending unit. Am I seeing that right?

Which sensor is on it ?
I have natural gas in my well do you know of any way I can capture the gas and use it to heat my home.
How much is the cost of that unit?
I can see the static water level in my 245 deep well it is at about 15 feet
You can come to my place with the fishin' pole anytime - my grandson would luv it. He'd probably invite you to join him in fishing for some catfish.
Our well does not have the additional access port on the wellhead... Not how I can check our water levels...just a power line and the pump.

Cell phone and a hammer doesn't require opening anything.
