- Thank you for everyone's patience awaiting this next episode! It's been a very busy couple of months away from the channel and a longer break than intended, but we're back and looking forward to bringing you lots of exciting content in 2021!
In this episode, Iain brings us up to speed with the restoration of the 350GT, the fifth ever production Lamborghini, following work to repair the body. Iain shares some of the history of the original Lamborghini V12 designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and it's importance in the history of the company, it's use spanning four decades, albeit with some changes, right through to production of the Murcielago in the early Noughties. And as luck would have it, Iain happens to have one of those in the workshop as well, so he shares some insight into this most modern iteration of the V12, before taking it to stretch it's legs.
Thank you once again to everyone for the overwhelming reception of these videos and for all the support of likes, subscribes and wonderful comments.

Iain Tyrrell and Harry provide automotive gold. This is what has been missing from the «car shows» on TV; In-depth knowledge not covered in showmanship. The only presenter that comes close is Chris Harris. Now, imagine Tyrrell, Metcalfe and Harris doing a series together...!
Clarkson make a name knowing nothing about cars
One of the best car channels on RUclips. I really like how Iain isn’t a silly fan boy about these cars but just sees them for what they are and imparts history and knowledge that’s genuine and interesting. Thank you.
I couldn't have put it better !.
Totaly agree... fascinating👍🇬🇧
this and Harry's Garage is where i go for reasonable sophisticated fandom of cars.
I came to the comment section to say the same thing, but you put it in better words.
No silly unnecessary revving under every bridge!
This is why network TV is dead
And it deserves to die because it's crap and in a lot of cases over priced (SKY).
My TV sits in the corner unused unless I watch a film. I watch excellent RUclips videos like this. When I watch a film now, it’s more like an event and not on for the sake of it. Excellent channel this and would never be seen on terrestrial television.
@@PeteCourtier I'm exactly the same!
Good. They can't die fast enough
Or a demonstration of your limited outlook
I feel thrilled to learn that Giotto Bizzarini is alive, at the age of 95 and I hope that he joins the centennial club
Sadly, Bizzarrini had passed away.
This and Harry's garage are two of the best car channels on RUclips in my opinion. Excellent.
History tech school with Prof. Tyrrell. So many information, from historic bodywork to the little trick of making 4 combined 3 cylinders. Amazing, thank you for this video.
Greetings from Austria🇦🇹 Stay healthy!
Love these videos. Wealth of knowledge. No BS clickbait or music. Just straight knowledge and history. Very important
Thanks for taking the time to put these videos together. Superb!
I love that thanks to the owner and a commitment to a proper restoration, the 350gt will likely still be around 100 years after it was first constructed.
A good story should be interesting, captivating for reader/viewer, well illustrated, be compact but full of wonderful mystery. It should have a great start and equally great conclusion. This story had all of those but one essential element that makes it stand out from the rest....and it did...
Iain Tyrrell.
So welcome as this is the day I had to give up driving due to health reasons.
Thank you Iain for making my day!!
Cheers
Bob
Well said Bob.
My sympathies on your having to give up driving.
But at least you have this channel.
Thanks for your very kind feedback Bob. Very sorry to hear of your “watershed” day today. Hopefully you can still savour some moments watching the videos vicariously! Take care
The Murcielago and the 350GT are both such gorgeous cars, but in very different ways. The 350GT is just such an elegant, exquisitely tasteful thing. The Murcielago is like a spacecraft, but not OTT in the way that some Lambos can be.
Watching Iain talk this through is like watching a master-restorer working on a Giotto frescoe. Incomparable skill working on an incomparable treasure.
“Cylinder Pulses” will be the name of my Iain Tyrrell tribute band when the time comes.
I'm In...
I’d go with “Donkervolk!”
dibs on drums...:)
Surely "Cylinder Pulses" will be the name of your first concept album? :)
Yeah he was a singer previously!
Hard to find a genius who’s also such a pleasant and interesting guy. This was completely fascinating. Thanks!
.................. not like that annoying hoonigan autofocus guy, amirit?
Iain would be ideal for any apprentice to learn their
craft of being an engineer and mechanic with all of his knowledge passed down and is such a rare opportunity these days !
@@ajwasp3642 hoonigan is a modern business project. cash in on sponsorship and cars are second.
25:02 Iain tries to stay professional but you can see the smirk (exactly what we would all be doing) 😂😂😂 great video, such in depth knowledge, brilliant 👍👍👍
Welcome back! You’ve been missed. Another riveting video.
Long over due, not complaining, I just love your content and miss it! Another fantastic video Iain, thank you. ☺️
I was just saying yesterday ‘where’s Iain been?’. So glad to see you. Excellent content as usual. Stay well.
That blue Espada in the background tough...
Another fascinating history lesson from Iain. I could listen all day.
Is that a BMW M1 in the background? I would love Iain talking about it.
Yes, I was going to comment about that M1 too.
Oh yes .. And the Jalpa
Spotted the M1 too.
and the Silhouette on the lift too.
A new Tyrells Classic Workshop AND a new Harry's Garage on the same day! woo hoo, certainly cheered me up. Thank you both.
100% Likes. One cannot simply dislike this automotive history gold. Thank You Iain for sharing - Cheers! :)
I 100% agree with you, however the YT haters that have no life eventually showed up 😑
Fascinating to see the restoration and get such insight into the 60’s era manufacturing process. Another super video Mr Tyrrell!
So bloody great to have you and your workshop back on screen Iain!🙏🏻😊 Thanks for the effort and fantastic content as always👍🏻
Iain and Harry make for a good Sunday viewing .
Your comments on 3 cyl torque is so true. Triumph took advantage of this in making their Speed Triple’s strong pull from 2500rpm on!
wow how fascinating. the details such as, V12s firing pulse feeding into the crankshaft, and therefore being less torque-y than V8s, the physics of it, cylinder pulses - this man is classy, the channel is so educational almost to the point of answering life long, childhood car enthusiast questions - while at the same time satisfying our desire to see cars and restorations. thank you.
This is a multi-million subscriber channel in the making. More collaborations with Harry Garage.. and similar will give this channel the attention it deserves.
@@johnsmith1474 doesn’t upload enough
@@charlie1832 Quality over quantity.
I hope not. It's for car geeks and there are too many ads in already. Btw you can't stop them when you are writing a comment or you lose it!
@@keithhoughton4308 I get Zero Ads. Very easy to get no ads without having to pay for the privilege
@@James-oo1yq how do you get rid of the in video ads? I'm an old man and to me they are like someone in a pub thrusting themselves in front of you while you are talking to someone else and shouting in your face about something so irrelevant it makes you wonder why they have gone to so much trouble.
Absolutely fantastic video! As someone who grew up with posters on his wall of the Countach and a 365 GTB4 Spyder among others, went on to be a technician for Audi/VW for 8 years and who still uses Autotrader daily to daydream about what i'd have in my ultimate garage.....this content is gold. Thank you all.
Good to see you back and another great video, thank you.
This channel is pure automotive gold...
This is what it’s called having passion for classic cars. He tells the story with facts and enthusiasm like he mentioned hearing the sound of an engine from his bathroom window growing up,
I LOVE these videos. Apprentices, Apprentices, got to pass these skills down. Thank you🙌
I needed this SO bad right now....
Don't ever stop, Iain!
I second that!
I hope there is an Iain Junior.
@@johnsmith1474 Say man, WTF is wrong with a gear head fix? How is technical information gross? Hell I needed a tech hard fact fix too. So what if someone has hairy testes and questionable taste in men?
Haha that name 😂
This is how to do a video, perfectly presented, extremely engaging, no annoying music and you never find yourself wanting to skip bits. It's a world of cars I will never get to own but it's nice to learn about them. Thanks
The hidden rot on the 3500 gt reminds me of trying to jack up old cars back in the day and watching the Jack just go up through the body.......the good old days!!
Been there , Done that , Bought the filler , I'm ashamed to say...
@@colinritchie1757 Oh yes, a right of passage.
But not on Lamborghinis! £50 Morris Minors or Ford Anglias when I started driving. But it was the freedom that was the biggest thrill. And strangely, though I admire exotic cars, it's still the cars of my youth that I go for.
@@JohnDavis-ed5sg That's usually how that works. I figure in 10-20 years there will be a shop like this that restores Honda Civics back to stock.
This one has the original wheels and bumpers! Amazing!
Best automotive channel on YT
Quickest 27 mins in weeks...along with Jay Leno, Iain effortlessly steals my time. Love it !
"I'm loving this car." I'm loving watching Iain loving this car!
It must say something of Iann's channel that I've watched this video quite a few times by now...I go back because of the knowledge of history fir these cars Iann has and to get a true sense of how and why they drive the way they drive. This channel is the reason, as someone here in the comments has mentioned, "television is dead." Iann's knowledge and expertise just aren't available with the talking heads on network television. His content is riveting for us car nuts. Bravo Iann.
"This is one of the Lamborghini V12 engines we've got here at the moment"
What a pleasant way to spend a Sunday night (Aust), thanks Iain
My congratulattions Iain for the fully respectfull way you're making those videos of these trully historic cars! I love those old cars and I also do enjoy driving older cars - of course more humble than those of you - but with manual gearboxes, so consider me as one of your fans!
Also noticed the level ot respect on these videos, completely agree with you!
The best car channel on RUclips by some distance.
I love that you can really learn something watching these videos
Addicted to your videos, and thank you for replying to my Dino query on the video about the 246GTS. In every video, I learn something, which is rare! Until today, I was convinced aluminium didn’t not rust, but your explanation of the transfer between metals has enlightened me 😀
At 8 compared with 4,800 the lowest ratio of thumbs down I can remember on YT. Presumably 8 people were looking for something else. Top notch quality - thank you!
A long wait, Iain, but well worth it. Thanks very much!
The 350 & 400 GT's are absolutely stunning designs, I always liked them more than any of the later Lamborghini's.
This car has always warmed my heart, something the Aventador has never quite managed to do. And the speed, OMG!
It's great to see a Silhouette in your workshop - so many Lamborghini models in this video (even the M1).
Welcome back Mr Tyrrell.
,Great how you acknowledge by name the craftsman who worked on these elements
.. Says at lot about your Workshop
Dear 'Mr Tyrrell' what a very knowledgeable person you really are, brilliant and engaging to watch, please keep producing videos. Regards, RichardA.
Fascinating insight into the history of that amazing V12
10/10 video
Brilliant. Thank you.
If I ever meet Mr. Tyrrell... I will just say how much I respect him.
My eyes lit up when you posted this video , thanks lain .
I cold listen to this man review a washing machine or a coffee maker.
I think could review a pack of toilet roll and make it totally fascinating and absorbing! 🤣
Awesome videos
26:46 "...something resembling a driver's license... " ;-)
Must be rewarding to floor such a car after it has gone through the workshop for some repairs. Kind of seeing the fruits of your labour. Must be brining a smile every single time!
Poetry as always Mr. Tyrrell
That 350 is a labor of love and I'm sure it will be a multimillion pound automobile when you are done with it Ian.
When you were standing next to the Murcielago I never imagined you could get your 6' 4", ever so slightly stout, frame into that car and not look like you had been jammed into some kiddies car at the fair. Lol
I could really stand to see more of your projects!
That engine should not have been halted. Masterpiece. The whole car should still be produced.
Wow, manual Murcielago - my dream car. Great video, thanks for all your hard work and the amazing content you produce. 👍🏼
Thanks again!!!
Such a smooth and relaxing manner contrasted with a modern Lambo supercar. Refreshing.
Iain, the engine whisperer! I love your videos! Sooooo interesting and fascinating. I cannot wait for the next one :) Thank you
Rattle and roll? Nah! It is the English roads! The car is at it peak! Smooth~
God Man don't leave it so long next time! I was willing this to last longer than it did. Always really interesting Iain, thanks!
I've been missing an Iain Tyrrell video on my Sunday night viewing for a few weeks now and this one did not disappoint. Please keep them coming!
Thankyou soo much Iain, all your videos are so well informative!
I know there is no way you have the bandwidth, but I could watch these daily. THANK YOU. Always exciting to see a new episode pop up!
Iain, ahhh...The Quiet Man of the car world...Have really missed your videos recently, and appreciate that real life gets in the way of making and posting content, great to see you back. I've been a fan of your site since its inception - kinda feels like a delicious secret ! I'm imminently purchasing a Ferrari 456 M....you know where I'll be driving next !!! Great video, looking forward to more content, superb work.
Great to see you again Iain! (Fix It Again Tony!)
Tender, Loving & Care.
That's what you can absolutely be sure of your car will get when you bring it to Iain and his team!
Again, the passion and dedication shine from this video :)
Thanks for this welcome update!
There are RUclipsrs like Demuro... And then... There are youtubers that really know their stuff... Love this channel.
I adore the Murcielago. Stunning. Cool.
One of the best auto channels and I say "one" since I do not know them all. What great stuff we see and learn and it is free for us to watch.
I have been a car enthusiast all my life and can’t remember a time other than reading 1970s copy’s of car mags have I ever enjoyed being educated to the level in which mr tyrell has engaged me in his channel well done
Really enjoyed watching the Lamborghini being restored and the way that the presenter made everything seem so straightforward . The other Lambo was sweet
24 people with huge problems so far. Loved the video, as always! Thank you so much and cheers from Italy!
Another half hour well spent at Classic Car Restoration School......Ed Bolian could maybe learn a thing or two from this as well......superb as always......
Hi Iain, great to watch another one of your fantastically informative videos again...feels like it's been a while, but worth the wait! No doubt that the No4 Lambo will be amazing when finished! Crazy too that the traction control light was still flickering under acceleration,... the Lambo's brutality pushing through lol. Great stuff as always 😊
The mind boggles at how much handmade aluminium repair sections so skilfully blended with the original body must cost! Lovely car though and very significant so obviously the work is an investment!
Ah a fix of Iain, I had gone all cold turkey waiting for something like this, magnificent!
Thankyou so much for this I,m a car enthusiast with considerable knowledge but always learn some new and interesting facts whenever I watch this brilliant channel
Maserati 3500gt another very rare and my favourite looking car. great video.
It is very elegant. Imagine driving this car in those days...
What a treat for a Sunday morning. 😀
This is my favourite video now.
Being 32 the Murcielago is my no. 1 dream car. I love the original, the manual gear stick, full red cluster rear lights. My poster car.
Learnt so much more about this awesome car in this video, thank you. I always thought it was the LP version when Audi got involved. I am a little gutted about that! Other than that you have sold it well and it remains no. 1.
Amazed at your knowledge on all these cars, absolutely brilliant channel and commentary
Of course we've enjoyed it, thanks so much, looking forward to the next one!!!
Tremendous insight and great to hear the Murcielago sing. Great to have you back, Iain!
That road test as my old mentor from up north used to say, is a “filling slackener”. Great video as usual 👍🏻
Thank you, Iain. Wonderful!
I am amazed how much I like the Murcielago's styling now, considering how little I cared for it back when it was in production.
You probably like the styling now as the current Lamborghini's as great as they are, are looking way too over styled
@@PatrickPeterVlogs
I think so too. Especially since not only modern Lamborghinis, but also but also modern cars in general are overstyled.
Are you the Patrick Peter of BPR GT fame? Or is it a fairly common name please?
