I'm hoping to create a Mario Maker clone one day, and several themes would be tributes to classic flash games we all used to play. Too bad Adobe is seemingly going to slay the goose who laid the golden egg, as if I never came across one of these flash games, I probably would never have been introduced to Mario. But remember, as good old Mr. Suess quoted, "Don't be sad it's all finished, but be glad it happened." The Flash games may be seeing their sunset soon, but they will live on as memories of the people who experienced them. The 2000s were amazing. :)
What Adobe doesn't understand is that destroying Flash isn't an answer, but will spoil the situation even more. People still to this day get recreational value from Flash games, sometimes even more so than Hmtl5. In short, Adobe is being a *MEOW!* and no one cares.
*Attention!* As you are aware, we are all scared and angry at Adobe for the imminent death of their inarguable-y best operating system, Flash. However, I have hatched a plan to save us all! I am currently stocking up on Mario swf files before it is too late. These swf files are to be archived from the internet, to avoid them forever disappearing. I believe it has been several months (10 at this time of writing) that I made my comment promoting a way to store little pieces of childhood in form of Flash Games, as to not let them die so soon. Months later, we are halfway through a deadly plague, which has cost us thousands of lives, but what ultimately grew was fear of being pursued by the plague itself. But still, we are just months away from saying goodbye to a part of our childhoods - the Adobe Flash Player. After 20 long years of service, the Flash Player will all but disappear, in favour of more efficient methods to entertain in this day and age. Unlike my previous 2 comments, this is not a rant at Adobe, or an Attention. It is more of a reminiscence. For several, including myself, this was my first introduction to the kingdom of Mushrooms, Mario, Bowser, Princess Toadstool, and all the others. But why, then, are we lamenting about the loss of a compatibility player? To children of today, they may wonder. But to us, it was more than a compatibility player. It was more of a portal to the Mushroom Kingdom and traversing through 8 lands to take down the Koopa. But the main reason we have feelings to this player is not because of the gameplay, it's because it has a firm place in our childhoods. For instance, the hitboxes in this game were less than passable in today's standards, but for 2005 and even as late as 2010, it was revolutionary. Whilst the Flash Player may disappear, the memories of all who grew up with the multitude of Mario flash games, Club Penguin, WebKinz, and a Multitude of other nostalgia inducing games will never. Good people are doing their part and archiving the games in the form of swf files, but it's unlikely the children of tomorrow will ever truly experience what we did. Thank you for your 20 year service Flash Player, and here is to 20 more years of excitement and joy. So long, and thanks for all the fish!
