This is the heat powered stove fan that we use ~ amzn.to/2Ra24rO
Your stove top is big enough to accommodate at least 2 if not 4 of those fans. Then you will notice the air circulation increase.
My father's houe in Penn heated the house the same way and they had about the same size grates. The house was built in the early 1800's still standing w/family still living there. : ) peace they also used coal back in the day.
You have 200 Amps electrical disconnect switch turned off !
Wwwww

I live for your videos and especially the cooking part of them. What a family man you are and a role model to anyone who needs to see what a awesome family looks like. Your life is beautiful and you make it look so easy. I live for the day when I can be that fulfilled. No need for pity, anyone. I'm just sayin'. I am sure he had to work hard to get it there.
Chasing the goat with the buck bomb, and watching her reaction was hilarious. God Bless from Phoenix.
From the UK, from a farming background. I just happen to come across one of your videos. Watched it now I'm a fan, what a lovely family you are. Keep making the videos.
Pluto seems like the happiest dog on earth!
Thanks for bringing all of use along with you
Its such a better way of life living the way you do
Most of us are in the rat race and only dream of being in your shoes
God bless you
I love that you bring your daughter in the sled. Looks like she looks vets the shove down to the goat pen.
Your chimney set up is smart not only do you keep the mess outside, it is safer and you can clean it all year round. Climbing a roof with snow is dangerous. Al, you need to het Miss Oliva to pull you and push you down the hill. Lol. Make a harness for Pluto so he can pull the sled.
pretty sure pluto would give him a solid no XD
@@RavenStorm1031 lol
Its actually safer inside when a chimney cools it creates creosote, cools off less inside, straight up inside is the best .
I love the idea of the woodstove heating cold air within the house. I will do the same thing here in the near future. I keep thinking about your comment about not being able to get the upstairs above 70 degrees. My Grandparents heated with sawdust back in the day, and it was a great way to heat the house... providing that you could get dry sawdust. At any rate, their difference was that they had hot and cold air duct work running through the basement. I love the idea of taking cold air and heating and basically circulating the air within the space. Thanks for the great videos!
When it's -20f the upstairs won't get above 70f
@@LumnahAcres OK, thanks for clarifying that. My stairwell is off to the side of the room, so thinking that the duct work might work better for me. Although I will definitely have get someone in to give me their opinion first. Thanks for the great videos... I enjoy watching them!
I love that chimney and stove. A terrific, smart set up.
Willow smells that buck and says GET AWAY! Pretty sure it means shes with baby ;)
It is so beautiful up there. Thank you for taking us with you when you're on the road. This old Florida flatlander is scared of your temps, icy roads and mountains but I love seeing them. You have no traffic on your roads and I would love that. I would love to have a fireplace. My home is heated with my oven or a pot of water on the stove top to take the chill off on cold mornings.
I am thinking your sweet Willow is with kids! That is so exciting and I can't wait to see the videos of her and her kids next year!
Excellent planning ahead with your wood stove. I agree that I would have switched the living room with the bedrooms so that the space during the day would be warmer and the sleeping areas cooler. I pretty much don't use heat during the winter in the bedroom because I get too hot. I'd rather snuggle under a ton of blankets in a room that is cold than have it 70 degrees and be too hot and miserable.
I was thinking that you could save a lot of work and energy by buying an extra sled, filling it with wood, stacking it the way you would inside, stack it, and bring it is and store it where you store your wood. It'd save you having to remove the wood from the sled and restack the wood inside each time.
good day to you Al, Gina & Olivia !! thanks for sharing another awesome update and adventures on & off the homestead !! 👨🌾🎥👍✝
Put foil faced fiberglass above wood burning stove, between floor joists, under the area of your bedroom above and it will stay cooler and the rest of the house will see a rise in temp. I have my first cup of coffee watching you feed the crew every morning. keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing about your wood stove setup. No electricity needed.
Good morning Al,
I love the way you have the wood stove set up that if you have a really bad storm and loose power you’ll still be warm.
Temps here today is expected to be sunny in the high 40’s and rain tomorrow in the 60’s.
Ed in Hamden Connecticut
Thank you Al!
Good Morning, Al! Once again, a great start to my morning! I love, too, that your dinner has appeared on my dinner table so many times - a classic combination! Happy Thursday to you, Gina and Livvie!
the scenery is just beautiful ☺️
Your homestead looks real pretty with all the snow cover. Everything looks well taken care of for the winter months. Stay warm.
A nice little indoor project for the winter: Cool down the bedrooms, improve the convection. "Simply" install a subceiling in the basement underneath the bedrooms, and channelise the cool air from the downpipe(s) through the spacing. Keep the interspace tight to maintain a good airflow for evacuating the rising heat effectively. Consider placing air baffles for a better spread and distribution. Then drop the air low and towards the rear side of the firebox. Your preferred shiplap boards come nice and handy, just remind yourself sealing the shiplaps with some elastic sealant. Optionally apply or implement heat shielding. The smooth surface will make the warm air move faster and therefore warmer to the regular ceiling and well hole. Maybe save some firewood over the heating season. Double win, even perhaps a triple win. I hope you still read new comments to old videos, and you can pick up the idea. Make use of the cool air. One day of designing and planning, half a day of pre-organisation, two days of execution, half a day for re-organisation.
Ya'll have so much fun. It would have been nice to have a dad around. Have a Wonderful and Blessed Day!
I missed your video yesterday. Loved this one today. Peace and blessings to you and your family
I know when i owned my home my wood stove was also in the basement. It had a hood over top so when the fan to the furnace kicked on it would draw the wood stove heat out of the basement and disperse it. The hood was plumbed into the vent ducts to the furnace.
Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Snow makes it look way better always
Perfect timing! Hubs and I were JUST talking about your wood stove heating your house this AM. We don’t have a chimney on our house and want to install a wood stove in the basement. ❤️
Well thought out heating system, I went back and watched an earlier video on the heating. Good to see a back up furnace also. Well done Al !!!
Moose is the Man! He doesn't like the snow!!!!?
Try the buck bomb again tomorrow and see what Willow does. When we brought our buck home all of our does ran from him the first day they were together(even though some were definitely in heat!) But on the second day they stood still for him.
Thanks for all the info about your woodstove! I made notes for the next home we're building where we want a woodstove. We currently have a fireplace but it doesnt heat the house very well.
And I'm very jealous of all the snow you guys have! We live in Washington and it's a very mild winter so far, lots of rain and wind storms this year. Only a few days of freezing weather. But we're taking a road trip to Spokane on Saturday(getting a livestock guardian dog!) so we will see some snow! Lol
I will try that
My girls talk to Shadow but if i let him go to the fence they run from him, so im guessing it would be the same with the rag. Woohoo kids are on there way, or kid😀. Better get your emergency bucket ready for the arrival just incase theres a problem👍. Have a wonderful rest of the week and stay warm.
I did work years ago in Arizona for a guy raising Clydesdales. He built his house on a hill and the barns down lower. He put heat exchangers above every horse stall and collected the animals excess body heat to heat his home.
You put a lot of thought into the furnace parameters and I like it. Good placement, good cleaning options, good mess containment. i would have done the same but I agree that the optimal placement would have been under the living room area as I like a cool bedroom too. All in all excellent job.
Interesting heater.
Goooood Mawnin' Al! Very informative video today. I've got a Vermont Castings stove that was originally in my living space but was to hard to regulate, now I want to install it in my basement so that it can heat a greater area. Fingers crossed I hope to get it in this winter.
Yummy apple sauce with port chops! Cannot beat it!
Thank you for the explanation on your heating system. Looks like you gave it allot of thought before and as you were building you home. Thank you for sharing and taking the time to produce the videos. Take care and God bless.
Your Willow is pregnant for sure. The running away is a sure indicator. Our deer do the same thing after they conceive. If she wasn't she would curl top lip and lick the air too. Congrats!!!
Do you raise deer 🦌
@@LumnahAcres yes we attempt it lol. First year they are very skittish but once established they are like puppies. This will be year five and about 40head of whitetails
I have that same fan and it is amazing.......wouldn’t want to be without it
I could never name a pet Figaro. I have watched too many Saturflday morning cartoons where the big opera guys gets on stage and sings feeeeegggaaaarooooo over and over again... I would be singing that cats name every time I saw it lol. Have fun be safe, Shannan Jensen
@lumnahacres sorry for being late today. I am on vacation through Christmas. No need to get up at 4:00am if I don't have to. Thanks for all your work on the channel. My family enjoys it.
Hope you enjoy your vacation! The videos are here whenever you wake up 😃
Very interesting video. We originally had a coal stove when we moved here but now use propane. I like your setup.
We have an outdoor wood burner and throw aluminum cans in every once in a while. Helps with the buildup of creosote. Keep at it!
OMG I'm dying at Willow running from that jar.
Merry Christmas to you guys.
Moose cracks me up! LOL
morning al love the informative videos thank you
Torrential rains here this week. One the bright side, I didn’t have to water the garden this month.
Intelligent design for home/wood burner. Love seeing you two enjoying the sled 🛷. I can’t wait until spring ( miss the pigs 🐷) . I really enjoy your videos( watch the way you run your Homestead interaction with your family and that you don’t forget to add God into your activities) , that is very important. Keep up the good work.
Great video. Thank you..what a great idea with the chimney and wood stove..we have a fire place.
Very cool design for your heat
That's a nice wood stove.
Nice stove my Heco 520 also uses convection to heat the house it's a wood cook stove though.
A great heating concept you have. What about A/C for the warmer seasons? One thing I have noticed about you by watching the channel is that you are an inventive type of guy. Thank you for sharing your homestead experiences with us.
I found out from my dad just why He never had as much creosote as you. Funny thing because when ever he did clean it. It was 4am in the mourn and us kids were in bed and never saw it done. So my asking the other day was because I never knew stoves got that dirty. Thanks for this video and talking about the whole wood stove.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing
So what was your dads answer? What did he do different to make less creosote buildup?
@@6996katmom He didnt do anything different. He just cleaned the chimney at 4am and us kids never saw JUST how dirty the wood stove got.
Thank you for this video.
I Think she's pregnant, but keep checking with the buck rag a little longer. We should be getting our first baby goats for 2019 starting Jan 5 (I'm so excited). We have a fan on our wood burning stove too, it works great!
Congrats on the goats. You are going to have an awesome winter
Being in the northeast making your house design around your heat source is a great idea.we did the same thang but have not seen many videos on why and what stove. this should help give others ideas
Willow is so funny! If I had to guess, I would say she is not in heat by her reaction to the buck balm. Really looking forward to seeing how this plays out though. Maybe she is scared of the jar. Silly I know, but I would test it and see if it is the scent or the container she doesnt like.
Last time she loved the scent I'm just not sure. 😂
I love 💕 your videos thanks for sharing
You always give me information in your video's, and I thank you for sharing your knowledge...I think (hope) Willow she going to be a Mommy.:)
Goooood morning Julia
I think Willow is pregnant. Your pork chops looked real good. You did a lot of planning on your house and chimney. I think it is a great setup. Yes, the chimney provides a lot of heat, but it is also a huge fire hazard and a mess to clean. Blessings from the high mountains of North Carolina!
As soon as you said power outage, my power surged. It's been pouring rain down here in N. Florida all morning.
Always interesting fun things at the homestead with the animals and also the family😋😋
Insulate the floor over the wood stove will keep your bedroom cooler.
Great info about your woodstove. Thank you!
Dont worry she's pregnant. She dont want to smell that buck anymore. Merry Christmas from Sweden!
Good morning!! Al, just a suggestion, have you ever thought of insulating the floor under the bedrooms. It might cut down on some of the heat transfer. Thanks for sharing the video.
I am guessing your going to have a new baby goat!!
Maybe foil faced foam sheets to the bottom of the floor trusses ? Seal off both ends of the floor truss openings ( to stop the air entering in) . Use minimal screws with a washer on the sheet edges. It would take only a few screws to hold the whole sheet up, because of the lite weight. Plus NO FIBERGLASS fibers in the air !!!! Plus you can reuse the foam sheets down the road if needed or a change of mind. 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick should do it :) Or you might try the 1/4 - 3/8 foil faced bubble wrap rolls? But the thin plastic air bubble might melt directly above the stove ? Plus the plastic will expand and contract to a greater extent than the 4 * 8 foil foam sheet . I like a cooler bedroom for sleeping myself. Makes for better sleep . Great video AL. The goat mystery continues .
I congratulate on your well placed dust bunnies! Lol 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the stove info, saw your first stove video and this was another good one. I won’t show my wife this video or she will want a stove like that, shhhh!
Hi..... AL, I love your video it amazing thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👨👩👧👸👕👓🐩🐔🐓🐕🐖🐈🐐🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
hats off at table
Can you recommend the best warm socks that you use way up there in cold New Hampshire to keep your feet warm. Hey I would like to see a whole series of videos on what clothing and accessories you use to stay warm and active there in the cold upper north east. I hope you all have a very very Merry Christmas!
I get it Willow, I’d run from that buck bomb too haha! Have a good day all!
I use a woodstove too and the only change I would like to do is put in a outdoor air duct for the stove. Rather than use heated air for the woodstove, use outside air.
Should we all keep reminding Al about the roost pole, we chickens like to roost at night, not sleep on the floor!
Olivia’s hair is gorgeous
Hindsight, eh? Too late to swap living room/bedrooms, but old people tend to like hot bedrooms, so in the distant future you might like the present room layout better. Another change I'd see would be to have put the chimney opening up bit higher on the wall, as long as it complies to code/common sense. That way you'd have more stove pipe inside to release heat into the house, and the outside opening would be higher so you can more easily sweep the pipes. I noticed the other day your sweep handle sections are taller than the distance from opening to the ground, making you have to bend them, which will probably eventually wear them out quicker.
We always liked to keep our indoor wood pile rather full, so the wood could warm to room temp and even get some drying (especially if it got rained or snowed on some).
I'm wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas, and the best in the New Year. Hopefully Willow is expecting.
The way the lot is designed it would be odd to have the bedrooms on the opposite side of the house. If that makes any sense
Makes perfect sense because of the layout of your upstairs doors, that are on the higher ground... better to be leading into living room/kitchen than into bedrooms and bathroom. LOL
Great info. Thanks! How much wood do you go through a winter? Roughly?
😭 i’m crying because I’m jealous you get snow and I don’t want I love the snow I live in Bisbee Arizona
Al, when are you going learn? There's no figuring out females (goats or humans)? LOL! 💜🌵🌞.
That is true! 😝🤣😜
Story of my life... 🧐
LOL well ur not wrong!! XD
You said you might try one of the dollar store pregnancy kits when someone suggested they worked. Curiosity alone would make me try.
I would say Willow is pregnant. Great info on the wood stove. Love the idea of the mess being out of the main area.
looks like that Tundra is handling those conditions pretty good.
Greetings from Maine. Thanks for another great video! My 3 year old asks to "watch Lumnah" every morning haha. I'm sure you've answered this before but on average how many cords do you think you go through in a season with that stove? Love your setup.
Hey Al, I'm about to install a chimney up the side of the house like you did. Any particular reason you went with triple wall pipe?
Running away like that...Willow be satisfied! ;^)
You really did some major thinking when building your home, yes we do get older and you took that into consideration, good for you ! Willow is having nothing to do with the smell of that buck balm, maybe she’s thinking I already have a husband! Lol 😆
Did you have any issues getting the warm air upstairs? I bought the same stove and my basement layout and vent/stairway location seem similar to your setup, but I haven't had much luck getting much (if any) heat to the first floor.
Two downsides(still better the way he did it) are loss of heat as the warm pipe Is outside. The immediate curve to the pipe to go outside can cause creosote build up in the curved pipe quickly needing more frequent cleaning. I used to own a cabin at about 8k above sea level and it caused airflow problems at that altitude in my pellet stove.
One of the first comments, love your channel.
She wants more food, maybe she is having cravings. How much does a cord of wood cost up there? Nice looking pork chops.
Air circulation makes sound circulation. Is that problem?
Roosting poles in the greenhouse
That looks like a DS, have you ever considered burning coal in it? Also what sq ft are you heating? Does it heat the house warm from the basement? Thanks!
Willow is preggers and she wants NOTHING to do with the buck that got her that way.
LOVE your stove and house design. Merry Christmas!
Your video make me so excited to start our semi homesteading journey! we are in the process of building our house on ten acres :) God is always blessing us! how much total was your heater+pipe and everything, and do you know how much the smaller one would be also. Where did you get those pans, do they work good, Thanks so much God Bless
Shop for the stove pipe online. It's a lot cheaper or homedepot has good pricing too! The 6" is a lot cheaper than the 8" stove pipe almost by half
thanks! I was just looking for a $$ that way I knew how much to expect to pay apx
Where did you vent kithchen/bathroom vents ?
