    I has a 1989 cougar, mine was way nicer and the motor was really clean and it ran good. The only issue mine had was a slight bogging.

      Awesome! This one had a rough life it looks like. I just started it today after being in storage 8 months and fired up on first pull. Primer button is a game changer. Think you had an issue with jet size?

    That white wire on the coil was your issue. Saw a lot I f those broken at the coil...and its hard to see with the coil mounted!

      It was the issue! Only $18 to get her running!

    Hope that was free considering all the rust! I've been looking for an affordable older sled....but I would have passed on that after opening the hood!

      Ha ha. Well. $275. He didn’t tow in enclosed trailer. I just wanted a ditch banger. I got a new sled I take on real trips. I’m debating doing a wheel conversion on the skis and tracks. Ha ha

    Don't neglect the tension and condition of the fan belt!

    You must ground both plugs!

    • @kevinon4wheels
      @kevinon4wheels  2 года назад

      I never knew that! Thanks!

    • @eric5332
      @eric5332 Год назад

      You don't have to ground both plugs at the same time to check for spark. You can do them one at a time.

    That brake button just lets power flow to the light to let others behind u know ur braking.serously doubt it has to be held to start,like a safety measure on atvs it has a lever on most old sleds to set brake in park on older rigs.most sleds dont move from clutchs till 3grand.snooky pa.

      Another unusual to me switch. Usually when you apply the lever it presses the switch. At least from what I’ve experienced

      Correct it makes the electrical connect to ur rear brakelight that small box on left top of handlebars has dot-3brake fluid inside that flows down a cable sorta tube to brake calipers and rotor giving you braking ability.there is a bleeder screw at top of calipers.if fluid is old dirty,or just non exsistent.loosen bleeder,fill box with fresh and flush out once or twice.then tighten,refill,bleed out any air.then ur brakes should be good this season,happy sleding,snooky

    Not adviseable to spray starting fluid in a 2 stroke! Premix only...you don't want dry piston skirts and cylinder walls!

      @@kevinon4wheels yup there usaully is a t-fitting running into main feed line or directly into carb vents.just gives u that oomph to get it going when cold even with a choke,its same as dribble down the spark plug hole just less hassle.snooky

    Just unplug switches to check dosrk

    • @stevenbaker9327
      @stevenbaker9327 2 года назад +1

      Just unplug switches to ck for spark. Unplug ignition switch...should spark now if bad. Same with all the other switches. I'm betting on external coil or exiter coil under the flywheel. I was a snowmobile service tech 42 yrs. ....now retired.
