I've been using open camera for years now. One tip for getting better hdr is to enable hdr in photo mode as well as in scene mode. It takes few seconds for taking the shot but the quality you get is worth the time. You are basically combining three hdr shots into a single hdr photo.
In settings keeping the hdr contrast enhancement to Off or Smart gives flat hdr ( better for editing ). While keeping the settings to Always gives photos too much pop.

What i love about it is that you can even deactivave the Digital Noise Reduction of the built in camera-software and take videos and pictures without pre-filtering. Which gives you more details and a less cartoony smudgy look. Especially in lowlight image details don't down in the high-iso noise reduction anymore and you can always later decide to filter it or not. Same thing with video. It even has an impact on non-lowlight situations. In other words you have a lot more control over the camera hardware through Open Camera. As long as it's not something that is just hardware locked like the maximum video bitrate or sometimes even the framerate.

You can remove the digital noise By activating Camera2api and going into filter Options disable edge detection filter and Noise reduction filtering
@@Shiroe-_- Yeah i kid you not, the images look WAYYY better with all these "picture enhancing" filters all turned off.
The filtering option must have come in the hedgehog 2 camera app in open camera it is called processing settings
