the fact that this guy can describe the miliseconds he is in the air before touching the ground.. tells you a lot about these guys.. they live in another frequency.. they are aware of every splti second of their movements
It would be cool to see a series where he teaches Judo over an extended period of time to someone like Brock Lesnar. All the way through their Kyu grade development. Someone who is already athletic but gets to work on the finer motor skills of grappling.
Judo is the best, among any animal human are the only ones who can fall break their hand, leg, neck never heard of a dog or a cat running and falling resulting in broken limbs. But my sensei told me once that a baby knew exactly how to fall as much as a judoka.he didn't tell me why we forgot but I reckon it's fear. It does make you tense meaning stiff, stop breathing thus keeping air inside which cause more damage when falling. judo bring you back to the roots of life, make you get use to fall and same in life not being scared of falling is an amazing advantage and nothing beat real judo. Best means minimum to achieve maximum in anything business, sport etc and judo is that.facts anyone welcome to test😁
Judo is a decent art but the sport aspect has completely screwed it up. The IJF and other orgs have eliminated different parts of it, and that in turn trickles down to academies who teach mostly for sport nowadays. The more an art contracts, the less effective it is. An art should be somewhat well-rounded.
I train at one of the renegade freestyle Judo schools, and we still train and practice the whole syllabus in randori. There are actually quite a few less competitively focused schools out there that do (whether they're into freestyle or not), but they don't get any limelight. I believe there will continue to be a sort of low-key preservationist fringe of Judo forever. I'd like to see it capture more attention, though.
Done yudo for years. Being thrown isn’t even that bad but getting clamd or chocked out also not that bad. But after a long time your knees wil start to hurt.
A very simplistic version is Judo involves throws, sweeps, trips, pins and submissions. But the sport itself favors the throws where both shoulders hit the mat at the same time.
@@devriestown Internationally judo is way bigger as far as participation. In the US judo isn’t as popular. Japan, France, all of the form ussr, and lots of asia and Africa have big judo communities. For real! So many good throws that involve the legs but they took it off because they didn’t want to be pulled from the Olympics since wrestling was and then put back in. But there was some really good throws/takedowns that involved the legs
havent seen a judoka get whipped by a boxer. As a boxer in the street the fight will at some point get to the ground and trust me.. as a boxer you def dont wanna find yourself on the ground with a black belt judoka. He will bust you up 100% of the time. I mean one missed punch BOOM takedown.
judo is one of the most beautifull and most underestimate matial arts for selfdefens imho
its the best grappling martial art
I love how one of the top guys in the world is so comfortable talking about his defeats. His humility speaks volumes about his character.
I always say be proud of your victories but also be glad at your defeats,
because they are the ones who taught what you needed to know to get better.
I wouldn’t say Travis Stevens is one of the best, still good
Judo
@@aureum7479 arguably the best american judoka ever lol but obvi not the best ever
From a life long wrestler, much respect to your ear sir... 💪👏
Koga's throws were amazing
Great questions by Lex! I think Travis enjoyed answering Lex's questions.
one of the best sports in the world
and the best martial art ;)

Travis is awesome 👏 - I was already a dirty Wristlocker, but he took them to a new level…

World class athlete with world class wisdom
so fascinating
Travis is just the best…! 👍🏻🥋⛩️

Still got to admit, even though many techniques are lost and it’s more sport oriented, the throws are still scary in a real life application.
@@Joseph981000 the techniques aren't lost, you would just find them in a self-defense oriented art like Japanese Jujutsu.
Still teach them at my dojo 🤷♂️

Why is fridman wearing a suit for a podcast 😂 that is like junior sopranos wear a suit to call a phone 😂 old school man 😂
Always wanted my son to learn Judo but never found a legit place where they teach judo in Florida 😢
I think Rhadi Ferguson has a Judo academy in Florida. Try looking him up, he was also a Olympic Judoka so he’s legit.
@@samuelhite2887 will do! Thank you 🙏🏻
Travis was is one of greatest
WHY DOESN'T HE ask travis about the rule of no leg grabs
as karate taekwon do kungfu are destructive kinds of ballet ... judo is swing
Judo sounds like a cruel sport in some way.
with breakfalls it is much less cruel than it sounds

meet travis once very intimidating dude
Maybe they explain more in the full interview, but that title is misleading. I get throws are involved. Know dick else.

@3:23
To bad they ruined judo with the no LEG GRABS LOL that's why judo wont take off as big as bjj until this rule changes
@star35mm BRO.... i train judo 3 times a week
Try grabbing a judoka's leg/s and you'll probably see why it's no big loss to judo..
