That Hooter whistle on 475 really gives me the ecreeps

I love how the steam engines and the Amtrak and other trains on the corridor honk to each other

475 looks so much better wearing the light on her forehead rather than her nose.

Awesome catch! I've always wanted to see a doubleheader with those two.

I used all my vacation days for my Honeymoon and was stuck at work yesterday. Thanks for sharing this. It makes me jealous and brings me joy at the same time!

Thanks! I had missed the first doubleheader with 89 and 475, so this had to happen since I had off.

Eastern Railfan Productions how often do they use 2 steam locomotives

    • @EasternRailfanProductions
      @EasternRailfanProductions  7 лет назад

In general Strasburg runs two steam engines during summer weekends and during the Christmas season weekends. For freight, double headed steam is a definite rarity. This occurred because their diesel 8618 was not operational.

Eastern Railfan Productions Also because Strasburg was unsure of how many cars they were getting.

I think this is the second time Strasburg Railroad did a doubleheader hauling freight. Once we saw it with 89 and 475. Now it's 90 and 475. And best of all. Doubleheader passenger train! I gotta come one day. This railroad is amazing!

Sadly I missed the one with 89 and 475, so I knew I had to get out for this one. This railroad definitely is amazing!

Eastern Railfan Productions many other youtubers got the 89 and 475 doubleheader. But this was better. Still think they should have added the caboose. It's a piece of history as it always rode in back.

That is an extremely rare sight! Awesome video!

This is extremely rare because both of these locomotives are both the most powerful steam ones in the area really. 475 can only pull a couple ton less than 90 so never thought they would do this

It's really sweet how they use their steam locos to get the freight they need instead of NS delivering it. Adds more to the experience

NS does deliver to the interchange point

Sure would have been nice to hear the ghost whistle with the double header

I'm curious because it's been a dream of mine since I could barely talk to be a crew member on a steam locomotive and I want to know more, but on the trailing locomotive do they keep the cutoff short as to not overpower the lead? Looks so from the stacks.

This would be technically called a "Mixed" train not a "Mixed Freight". "Mixed" in this context meaning a mix of passenger and freight equipment. Never heard of a "Mixed Freight" before.

mixed freight refers to a freight train having multiple different types of freight cars.

@no guy I see since it does cost a lot to operate a steam locomotive

Is it just me or does anyone else think that 475 would look good in a Pennsy paint scheme?

They preferred to use two coaches as they were expecting a large volume of people to come out and ride the mixed freight. As it turned out, both coaches had a decent amount of riders.
