I got off the rope right before the first climbing part and backed all the way off the ledge and fell the rest of the way down. As I fell I was like "Whelp. Im gonna die" but *NO* ; the water caught me.
If you can stealth over to the swimming sink hole then draw their attention they will all drown in it. I advise doing this before swimming to get the bow so when you come back you know it’s clear. Oh, and strap up with full armor and fire weapons and you can survive anything.
There is no other way to get the modern bow without entering the cave with the virginias. Chasm cave is the only cave I'm aware of that leads into that chamber.

Oxygen gets thinner as you go UP in elevation. Barring any "dead zones" (zones in caves that do not get fresh air, and can contain stagnant air, that isnt breathable. When you enter these zones, you get euphoric, then pass out, then die). Oxygen gets thicker, as you go down. It becomes easier to breath the lower you go.
Yes, even if there are a few circumstances that can change that. Miners irl are dozens of meters underground and really only wear masks to protect their lungs from the air pollutants from mining, and even that is a maybe.
Guys you can also jump down into the sinkhole and go from there into the exit cave. You will end in the same big hall where you habe to take the rebreather! Easier

Shit that was fucking tough! When I play with my mates I'm the bow guy, fire some flaming arrows and while creatures are stunned they go ham with melee, so I found combat is pretty simple and easy even in hard mode. Then they got disconnected and I said hey, you can get this bow and surprise them like tadaa! And I fucking shat myself boys. It's so tough to go through without frontliners, you simply have to make every shot count.

After i jumped down in the sinkhole and completed the game i went back to the sinkhole from the lab and went through the gate and then found the modern bow by accident xD (i went back to an old save where i haven't completed the game yet btw)
me and my friend are stuck in the cave. we went all the way down without climbing axe and rebreather. i cannot believe this. we were trying to get out by diving but we are dying.
All you have to do is not save and try again when you have the correct gear. It can also be done without the gear you just need to know where to jump and where to swim taking a bit of health awaym

I GOT IT WITHOUT CLIMBING GEAR!! basicaaly i treid for fun with my firends and those gaps you have to cross i just jumped and hit the wall then the ground and took a lil bit of damanage
Easier way, GO down the giant ass pit and fight your way to the metal door, move forward, find the tent.. O-O I forgot where to head after going through crevice. Bring stuff for health, a shit ton of armour, and many more other things in case you die.

had been there before but not the dive, went back now but somehow... no bow.. In VR though so a bit intense to do that part :D

Harder. Try getting back out... Try jumping into the sinkhole and surviving without building anything. This is the best and proper way.

You dont need the climbing axe. You also can use sticky bombs for boosting over the cliff...Dont ask why i know such things xd

You don’t need the rebreather if you’re hardcore enough in hard-survival (10% HP left)
