I remember my 'Chippie' days, rock hard parachute to sit on. Blank 12 gauge shotgun starter and canvas wings; "don't taxi with you flaps down Bell!".

First solo flight in a Chipmunk, 1973 RAF Roborough, Plymouth. Great time.

A great video, I flew this very aeroplane several times in 1978, pity about the electric starter!

Fantastic. Pleased to have flown in Chipmunks in the 90s. Wonderful machine.

What an excellent video. As an ex-JP liney, its great to see someone do a good walkaround.

Brilliant video and a great commentary with no silly music to drown out the sound of the aero engine. My first ever flight was at RAF Benson while on summer camp (1959) with my school's cadet force. That first flight was followed up with an hour's trip in an Avro Anson - what more could yopu wish for!

I used to fly G-BCSL with my dad as a kid, he designed the black paint job it has today, I loved how easy it was to fly. Great plane!

What a great video! As with many who may watch this video, it brings back great memories of piloting the Chippy back in the late 70's and early 80's. A real pilot's aeroplane until you throw one into 6 turn spin, then all hell breaks loose! Having a short wingspan means the rotation is pretty rapid! If I ever win the lottery, a Chipmunk would be my first purchase!

Very good comment Neil. With respect, there are two many dreamer comments on many of these segment, which need to be verified.Aeroplanes are aeroplanes. They all have their strength and weakness. For my opinion there is no place for dreaming. Every aircraft flys on the same formula. CL HALF ROW VSQUARED S. One has to face the facts and fly the aircraft on the Formula.

If you do a less comprehensive pre-flight than that you shouldn't be flying. Safety is paramount and his walk round goes as far as possible to ensuring that.

Really nice video. Enjoyed the walk around especially. Currently doing a Chippy rating and every little bit helps.... Cheers again.
