    My kids go to a small Christian school that uses ACE. I researched the curriculum before enrolling them in the school and loved the concept. Now I'm considering homeschooling and want to continue using this curriculum but wasn't sure if we should stick with this or use ABEKA which comes with video teaching for the subjects. After watching your video and many others about how properly use ACE in order for the curriculum to be effective according to its design I'm convinced ACE is the best choice for my family. For instance, in one video I learned about the color coding for each section and how that makes its easier for kids to set goals. I love that! If we do go homeschool next year I'll definitely stick with this curriculum and from what I've researched on their website it's fairly affordable compared to ABEKA and other homeschool programs on the market. Thanks for sharing!

    Oh sweetie, I started homeschooling due to covid and after prayer and research we settled on ACE for both my sons (one in 7th grade and the other just starting out). My oldest son was in a special ed program getting c's and d's and now he is A's and B's, but I find myself so flustered with doing the kindergarten with my youngest. I love your videos and thank you for the help, SO many of us need it. I wish I could just call you for guidance LOL, but praise the Lord that he gives you the zeal to share all of this with others on YT. SO appreciated!! I still have to find a routine that works, it still feels like we are all over the place with keeping him on pace (my middle gets distracted to easily), but we are praying and continuously asking the Lord for help, daily! Thank you for this encouragement. I hope to find our groove with this so that we can one day help others who are just starting out like us. I am so thankful I found your channel! xoxo

That's why I ask the other question on an earlier video because I'm not sure if I should supplement since my boy is so young and loves to read but his spelling isn't as great as his reading just yet. But I love how you said the slow beginning set a great foundation for your children.

    I did ACE from k-12. I have 2 undergrad degrees and am working on my masters. I agree with the statement that ACE teaches good study habits and encourages high achieving goals, but I do also see many issues. Particularly with science. It’s reading and language arts do creat good foundations. But both history and science, in my opinion, were lacking. It being my only experience other than college I don’t have much to compare to.

    Beware of ACE. I was not at all prepared for the world when it came time for me to move out. Lots of book learning, but no training whatsoever for the real world outside the church. I still have zero friends today because I never learned how to interact with people in a non-church/religious setting. They tell you it's normal for you to be different compared to worldly people because we're supposed to be in the world but not of it. I tried going to a community college after I finished the 12th grade, but I couldn't handle it and dropped out during the first semester. I didn't know how to take notes, I didn't know how to follow a lecture teaching style, and I couldn't get used to how freely the whole class would interact and ask/answer questions.

    • @Handkerchiefgal
      @Handkerchiefgal  Год назад +3

      I'm so sorry for your experience. I did ACE K-12th and actually had the opposite experience! I thrived at community college and then went onto University. I knew how to take notes, interact with people, following a lecture style was easy and, thanks to my education, college was just a list of goal's I needed to accomplish! The first day I got my syllibus I was like, "Oh, my goal card!"
      However I wouldn't expect ACE to give me all these things. I had amazing teachers, parents and church leaders which fed into my determination to succeed. I would encourage you to seek out someone older than you, possibly a man in your church that would take you under their wing and help guide you on how to be a good friend to those around you, possibly he could show you how to take notes in church and reach out to those around you.
      It is hard to put yourself out there but improvement comes when you do!

      Oh...We may need to have a phone conversation! If you are on Instagram look me up, I'd love to talk instagram.com/handkerchief_gal/?hl=en or email me at handkerchiefgal@gmail.com!
      Ok so here are the things my teachers did at our school that my folk's helped start that made a huge difference in the ACE education:
      -We spelled out loud all the words at the top of the checkups in WB
      -In English have the kids say all the rules. That is each bubble above the kid's heads. This keeps them from skipping it and at least focuses them on it for a little while.
      -Do all the level's (A, C & E) with reports and starts and the whole bit!
      -As far as supplementing ...our school had a teacher for math because we did Saxon. We also went across the street and watched my pony in surgery which was pretty cool...and we dissected a cat one time and I obvious remember that! SO I would say you can enhance the curriculum with science experiments but the curriculum is fine on its own. You just may be able to make more memories for the kids.

    I have to disagree. I attended ACE in Canada and fell so behind in school because of lack of support from teachers. Also there’s no help for kids with disabilities or autism. It’s great if you are smart and motivated to do this curriculum, but not if you aren’t. Especially once you reach the highschool level. Also look up Legacy Christian Academy lawsuit in Saskatoon Canada and you will see the underlining of harsh discipline used in these schools.

      SO ACE starts out VERY basic...This is why I start my kids when they are 3.5 yrs old. Those early years are very easy. I'd say it picks up in 4th grad and by 6th it is on track. My kids just took the state test and the 7 yr old (who is in 4th grade ACE) tested into 3rd grade and the 10 yr old (who is doing 6th grade ACE) tested into 6th grade. and the 8th grader (who is doing 8th grade work) tested into 9th grade, the 9th grader (ACE) tested >10 and the 10th grader tested >11th. SO when I say it picks up in the older grades I mean it PICKS up. I would either test your kids into a higher grade with the ACE placement test (I talk about that here and include the links: ruclips.net/video/-KvpJ3ZOeIs/видео.html) or I would just let them keep going from 2nd. My younger kids ALWAYS do around 14-16 paces a year rather than the 12. And my 2nd grader did a year and 1/2 last year so she could start in 4th grade this year. It is a real win because they look at school as easy but also that they are very successful at it!

      Now just because it is set up well doesn’t mean you will hold your kids to the rules or your kids will learn from them! Meaning: the writing in this curriculum will turn out good writers. But you actually have to do it and hold your kids to scoring and make sure they don’t skip steps!
      The strong point is that they teach that writing is just a bunch of sentences strung together. That a page is just paragraphs put together which is just one sentence after another. It makes it sooo easy!
