  • I spent an hour learning all about baseball - watch as I expertly explain to you all you need to know to Play Ball! 🤪 This is an ASMR style soft spoken video meant to distract your busy mind.
    Feel free to comment with things I may have messed up. It’s harder than you think! I will make more videos in the future with baseball sayings, terms, history, who knows what else.

    Now this is a fantastic topic. Played and coached baseball my whole life and now having fun watching my son, who was fortunate enough to earn a college scholarship, play NCAA baseball. Life is good 😊

    Great video! One small note is that foul balls DO count as strikes against the batter, but you can never strike out on a foul ball. So once a batter has two strikes against them, they can keep fouling balls off to stay in the at-bat.

      Oh, ok. I was confused by that. Thank you for the info!

      Also if you foul off a bunt attempt on 2 strikes your out and if the base runner gets touched by a batted ball while running the bases they are also out

    • @shmekie
      @shmekie 7 месяцев назад +2

      This is considered a skill btw - being able to foul balls off rather than make an out. Keeping the at bat going helps the batter and hurts the pitcher with each pitch bc the batter becomes more familiar with the pitches he throws and therefore in theory has a better chance at getting a hit

    Explaining rules is the best asmr trigger, highly underrated. Great as always!

  • @shmekie
    @shmekie 7 месяцев назад +4

    It’s not until you start to explain the rules of baseball that you realize how hard it is! I had a German tourist ask me what a strike zone was at a minor league game and even though I love the sport, has a hard time explaining it bc “it’s a zone where a ball is either a strike or a ball,” then you have to explain strikes and balls, and outs and innings and 🤯

      That's the truth! I try to pretend like the person I'm explaining to knows absolutely nothing about the game - it's kind of hard. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I'm in the uk and Im a big fan of NFL. I was looking into watching Baseball when the season started (when there's no football to watch😢). There's lots to learn and the amount of games they play in the series is just mind boggling.

      As a longtime baseball fan, don’t feel like you need to watch all 162! Watch as many or as few as you want… but a good starting point on deciding which games to watch are the starting pitching matchups. If the two teams are trotting out their #5 starters the pitching isnt gonna be as good so they’ll probably score more runs. Conversely if their #1’s are pitching it might be a 1-0 game. Depends on what you wanna watch but the good news is that the new rules have kept games around 2:30 instead of previously when the average was 3 hours (or sometimes 4-4:30 for big games on tv)!!)

      @@shmekie Hey thanks that's real helpful for a newb wanting to get into it. I've chosen my team, the brewers. I understand they made playoffs last season.

    • @shmekie
      @shmekie 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Rustylad85you’re welcome! Congrats on finding a team, the brewers are a good choice bc they have a good (but not great) squad but this year may be their last of real contention for a little while. They are what you call a “small market” team, ie, they make and spend less money than big market teams like the Yankees, Dodgers or until recently, the Red Sox (who also own Liverpool I believe). Some of their young players are about to hit free agency so they will likely trade them this year rather than lose them for no compensation. But the brew crew have a great stadium, fun youngish team and good pitching. They just need to find some hitting and convince the owner to spend a bit more and they may have a chance to go a little deeper in the postseason!

    • @Rustylad85
      @Rustylad85 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@shmekie same deal here with soccer. Now and again you'll get 'small teams' promoted to it but they tend not to hang around long due to spending limitations. The players they consider the mvp's leave for bigger clubs and bigger salaries. The pay over here is nothing like the contracts in the U. S.

    Hi Linda,
    for non US citizens it's always interesting to learn about the funny ball games you play over there. My whole knowledge about baseball was based on what I saw in the film "The Naked Gun" part 1. But unfortunately they didn't go into much detail about the rules there.

    For a defensive player to get a runner out by touching the base the runner must have another runner behind him that forces him to advance, which created the term “force out”. But if the runner advances without another runner behind him the defense must “tag” him with the ball in glove

    • @Hvckman238

      No they sit in a squatted position behind home plate which is flat and marked with chalk to very specific dimensions so the batter knows where they can and can’t stand. If the batter steps on the plate while swinging there out also I believe
