NORTHERN ONTARIO PLANE SPOTTING! Timmins Victor M. Power Airport
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 янв 2022
- Timmins Victor M. Power Airport, located in Northern Ontario, serves around 200,000 passengers a year (pre-2020), with two airlines having a base here - Air Creebec, and Thunder Airlines.
Timmins also gets some traffic from Air Canada and Porter, both of whom fly nonstop to Toronto Pearson and Toronto Billy Bishop Airports, respectively.
There's also some unique traffic, such as Air Creebec's Hawker Siddeley HS748, which I caught doing an engine run, along with some regular traffic during my visit in early January 2022.
Enjoy the video! And thanks to @MarkBrandonAviation for the excellent company.

That Dash-8 landing behind a huge pile of snow might be the most Canadian planespotting thing ever.
Only if there was a moose standing on the pile of snow.
…and a handful of guys playing shinny on the taxiway…. “CAAAAARRRR!!!”
@@ccudmore that particular runway is actually where I have seen moose more often than any other spot, ever.
This video alone is making me fall in love with turboprops… can’t get enough!
Who knew Timmins was cold in January? 😜 If you enjoyed the video, please consider leaving a like, this one was rough to film lol
Hey Alex is Karlos I Love both your Trip Reports including the planespotting in various parts of Canada with the Airports I hope to Visit there soon.
Nothing like the wine of a dart on HS 748 haven’t herd one since 80s in pickle lake,,thanks
Is that red, white, or rosé? 😜 Sorry, couldn’t resist being “that guy”. Yes, the whine of those Darts is quite unique.
I flew to timmins twice one year. The first time the captain announced it was the coldest place in North America that day. The second time I went the announcement was that it was the hottest recorded temp in NA that day
I used to catch a connection flight from Timmins to Moosonee every month when I worked in Moosonee in 1990.
My request for Timmins plane spotting had been taken. Thanks for this great video
Turboprops are such beautiful machines!...love the sound!
I can feel my hands hurt from how cold it is there, massive like for the dedication
He's Canadian... Russians but colder
Wow a Hawker-Siddley 748, that was the first aircraft I ever flew on from Lympne in Kent UK (had a grass runway) to an airport near Paris back in 1967. Never would have guessed there'd still be one flying today.
I too remember that plane route, a 747 from Toronto then later a 748 H S to land near Paris, 50 + years ago!
My best friend is a senior captain on one of the Air Creebec HS748’s out of Timmins, has 10,000+ hours on them. Flown them for 20 years. They are very reliable birds, flying into gravel strips up in Canada’s north day in and out with 10,000lbs + of cargo. I used to have a King Air B100 that flew out of Timmins (YTS).
You could always tell where a 748 had been parked. Red Mil-H5606 stains on the ground everywhere!!!
Your story made my local newsfeed this morning!
That Mitsu took off like a homesick angel…. Then again, when the weather’s that shitty on the ground, you’d want to get out of there, too.
Turboprop awesomeness!
So awesome you went to Timmins AND made a plane spotting video there. :D Stayed there overnight on our road trip back in October, what a fun little town. Didn't even know it had an airport...
Timmins Airport YTS has a cute little airport that has seen some cosmetic changes over the many decades.. back in the day before Dash 8 aircraft made theirs debut Air Canada use to fly DC-9 in and out of here.. Our two runways are long enough to land and takeoff many different types & sizes of aircraft
By the way, he made a trip report of Air Canada Express' last Dash 8-300
I WAS BORN IN TIMMINS! MY DAD USED TO TAKE ME TO THE AIRPORT WHENEVER WE USED TO GET BORED
Last time I was in this charming town was back when Air Canada used to fly the DC-9 into that community twice daily. Around 1985, I believe.
Thanks for this nice video.
You can always tell a Porter because of the way it is. 😆
My goodness, what a gloriously wonderful winter scene airport video, yes, love turbo props and have flown on the HS 748, DASH 8-200 and Q400 and the C208. Excellent videoing and a good cross selection of types. Haven't been to this part of Ontario.
Those early Air Creebec flights back to YMO were always chilly. Nothing like -45 wind CB I’ll walking from the terminal to the plane, door wide open, and waiting for everyone to take their seats. I always made sure I waited to the last possible moment to board.
One cool thing with Air Creebec and Thunder Air - you don’t need to pats through security to board and just exit though the doors immediately beside the ticket counter.
Another awesome video Alex. Those RR Darts on the Hawker make such glorious music. Brings back fond memories of my years with First Air.
Wow, that brings back some chilly memories of "snowbank maintenance" working for Austin Airways ca 1977-80. Those Rolls Royce Dart engines on the HS748 are *BRUTALLY* painful, even with double earpro. My ears are still ringing. I left there to become a mechanic at deHavilland, on the Twin Otters, Dash 7s, and all the 8s. Thanks for the video!
That‘s weather! Beautiful video!
Absolutely beautiful 😍
I can't believe Porter didn't take a spray. Absolute mad lads
Dude this is top notch, didn't know those tiny Mitsubishi's flew up here!
Thanks for the memories, of sorts. I flew out of - and into - Timmins only twice, once when I was 12 and once when I was in grade 12, having just turned 18. Vic Power was the guidance counsellor at our high school and the mayor for many years, and he was a wonderful human being, even though he may have been a bit hard on his son. His son, Kevin, was in our class for about 10 years because we were all in French Immersion and classes were limited to just us. Last I heard many years ago, Kevin was literally a brain surgeon. (I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness and I was never allowed to be close to my wonderful non-JW school friends.) Sad, really. BUT, the name of the airport is well-deserved. :)
How nice to see something quite different
Excellent video Alex!!!❤️🇨🇦🛫
This video truly opened my eyes to the size of some of these planes, especially the difference from Dash 8-100 to Q400! I lost my chance to fly to this airport myself...was going to do my Commercial long cross country flight here, but all my flying got cancelled for the forseeable future. I'll never fly these propliners now, and I live through my flight sim.
Thanks again Alex, very good video. Cold out there recording these with a little wind in the sock,
Great work. Thanks for posting.
well for a small airport that a busy little airport lol, love snow planes shows
Awesome, Alex...my home town, I didn't think that Victor M. Power Airport was that busy. I used to attend the airshows there in the 1960s as a child, my Dad wanted to become a pilot, but being a know it all punk, I became an underground miner (no regrets though)!
Awesome video Alex, I love the compilation of airplanes that you chose to film, and love that you braved the snow to get some awesome winter video of de-icing and activity in the snow. A friend of mine used to work at Thunder Airlines and heard lots of stories of a few of those airplanes you had in the videos. When I heard that HS748 start it brought back memories of back in Saskatoon, as Westwind had 3 of them and every morning they would start up and fly out. Keep up the good work, love the videos from everywhere you post.
Great wintry compilation packed with tons of nice turboprop catches, that must have been some cold footage to capture!
Great seeing you in Timmins! The 748s do cargo runs to communities along James Bay and to Victor Mine.
This was a particularly cool plane spotting video of yours for me to watch as I've worked with a few of these aircraft (mainly the Mu2s, C208s and Pc-12s) at my work in YOW. Great shots as always! P.S. Anyone know why that Dash had its spoilers up right before takeoff roll at 22:44? I've seen a few classic dashes do that and I don't know why.
Actually I believe all Dashes do that even the 400’s. There’s 2 separate modes for the spoilers which are ground mode and flight mode. Ground mode is selected when the aircraft is on the ground during taxi and after landing and the spoilers are always retracted. Flight mode is used for aiding in banking control during flight and for spoiler activation on landing when the power levers are brought back passed a certain position. What You noticed was the pilots selecting flight mode right before takeoff and then the spoilers automatically retracting when the power levers were advanced for takeoff power. You can see a good example of the crew selecting ground mode during the Porter Flight at 3:45 and the Creebec Flight at 25:43.
If memory serves me right, the reason for spoilers up at the 22:44 mark is a final check to see that the wing is free of snow or other contamination. Spoilers up in this fashion can be seen by both pilots
@@claudelabelle7099 that is partially correct. The spoilers are used in that way however the inspection is typically done before the aircraft takes position on the runway and definitely way before the takeoff run.
HI Alex. Nice to see some old and familiar aircraft. I was a Flight Service Specialist at Timmins from 1996-2002. A nice mix of IFR aircraft (DH8s, SW4, A748s, PC12, BE10) with the occasional B732, B722, A320 and CL4T in the summer fire season. Thanks for posting this.
Awesome video thank you for plane spotting in my town of Timmins you definitely come in the summer couple days ago a Boeing 767 landing in Timmins
Such cool footage of the snowy runway action, amazing scenario!
Love this!
Alex great idea to consider the regional airports like Timmins for spotting. Traffic is so totally different than the majors a very enjoyable view. Thanks
Alex, you should come back up to YTS in the summer. You'll find a bunch of CL 415's parked outside the MNR base at sunset when they all come to roost for the night.
Alex I love you vids, I appreciate the one on the dash 8 300 at AC. Had alot of info which I love. Thanks again and I bet you froze your gibblets off in Timmins.
Great Captures as usual!
Great video and specially love the HS748 and the Dash 8-100.
Marc... what does the 3471 signify after your name?
@@claudelabelle7099 to be honest, nothing at all ;)
That's super cold
Thank you Alex.. I always wanted to plane spot from my local airport in Timmins.. That was an amazing capture over a couple of days..
Wow those RR Dart engines are loud on the 748, cool variety of aircraft at Timmins. Great video once again Alex!
Wow, who knew that joint was so busy with commuter traffic!
Thanks for weathering the… weather to show is that 300 and Hawker!
That Thunder mits can do some speed eh? Wowzers
I guess if you are both into the Canadian wilderness and aviation I find this is the exact place to be! Love your planespotting videos, especially some of the catches on planes we don’t get to see everyday! ❄️
What a great video!, from the great sounds of the Darts, to a 208 plowing though the snow, many thanks for your great work!!!!
Lovely compilation!
Stunning!
Yep, no covered gates in my home town, lol. Welcome to Timmins in January.
The MNR Twin Otter on floats is one of 3 in the world that are water bombers.
It’s so cool to see my co workers on one of your videos wish I was working this day. Keep up the great work love the video: update 19:10 that’s me wing walking lol
WOW... Great video Alex.
That HS-748 sounded like Garrett engines..
Thanks for bringing back fond memories of my days on the ramp in CYQL working with Time Air and Canadian Regional.
3 thumbs up.....
My B-100 was loud, but having it in YTS, the MU-2 and HS-748 put my Garretts to shame, much louder than mine. Although the Georgian maintenance guys next to the Signature FBO in YYZ used to hate when we taxied by at night and they were working with the doors open. Lots of dirty looks. I loved the B-100, it was an awesome little bird. The engine joke is the Garrett, turning kerosene into noise day in and out.
Lovely
Came here to see Paul ! This is so cool 😎
Didn’t think Fed ex had planes that small. Also does Bearskin Airlnes not fly out of Timmins or are they only North Bay and Sudbury?Great video.
Didn't know Thunder Airlines had 208s. Only ever worked with their noisy ass MU2s lol. I've fueled C-FRWK quite a few times actually.
Aloha Alex! Always enjoy your videos. Wow that first plane brought me back to the Japan made YS-11 plane that was used here in Hawaii back in the 80's? It was being flown by Mid Pacific Air to hop between the islands and I believe you could buy coupons for as low as $20! My mom, who is originally from Japan, was very familiar and proud of flying on a Japan made plane. Still love the sound of the engines, just like the old Boeing 737-200's, a very unique sounding engine. Mahalo for your hard work in producing content. Thomas
The MU2 is insanely loud and difficult to fuel as well ( i work out of Porter FBO) and requires full hearing protection if you are marshalling it out
No Moose, but I did hear a raven! lol, close enough?
wow....so much traffic there, did you stay there a week to film all that ?
Didn't know Timmins airport was this busy. How many people be travelling up there
Canada is the home of turboprop!
Alex, do you know what the replacement aircraft is, as with my limited computer searches, I can't find this out? Another great video sir, also I am only interested in propeller driven aircraft, jets do not spark my interests in the least.
Any West Coast floatplane trips? Harbour Air electric Beaver? Thanks for the vids!
Did you see any Fairchild Swearingine Metroliner 3 in Timmins? That’s from YQT (Thunder Bay)
Man, you gotta want to do some plane spotting.
You should go to Sudbury next.
My home airport
Man… a HS748… haven’t seen one of those in months, sometimes we get them here in Vancouver, but they’re hard to find.
What is that thing on the front glass of cockpit of the Cessna 208B of ThunderAirlines - is that glass heater or smth? COOL SPOTTING! I would say FREEZING )
Yes, that is for when a plane hits icing conditions, that little thing keeps a clear spot on the windshield for the last part of an approach to insure that minimums on an approach can be observed.
@@CorPro wow, interesting technical decision. Thank you!
Shania Twain comes to mind..
Sure is much busier then I remember. Is that airport still uncontrolled or have they put a tower there now?
That Mu-2 flew into YZR a few years ago when I was a fresh hire on the fuel truck. Well, the pilot failed to mention in time that those wingtip tanks are pressurized. I suspected something was up when the cap hissed at me when I cracked it open. Apparently I didn't let it depressurize enough cause when I turned it an inch open the cap ended up taking off across the ramp. Thankfully the pilot didn't see and I learned my lesson for the next cap on the other wing.
This looks familiar.
14:11 wow was that Mitsubishi coming down fast or was it a normal landing? I know nothing about that plane
Just before I started this video I turned up the volume, then I promptly turned down the volume.
Hey, that's a Dehavilland 300. I thought AC was done flying them.
That -300 clip was filmed a day before the final flight.
i am surprised those hawkers still fly!
Say ever thought of doing Yellowknife ?
Which of Thunder's planes is your favourite? Choose carefully I fly one of them!
Hi alex hope you get a chance to visit a other air port in Ontario sioux lookout
It's too bad the HS-748 didn't takeoff. Nothing like one of those making that special RR Dart noise that they do!!
Not many 748s left flying in the world anymore. I think Canada is the last country flying them.
On what day did you get the footage of the MU2?
January 8th.
Theres only 2 HS-748 flying in Canada and Air Creebec has both of them
Wasaya Airways runs two out of YPL as well.
C-GMAA and C-GLTC.
👋
If you've been within 500 metres of a Mitsubishi MU2 at ground idle, you may be entitled to financial compensation...
2:51
You were in my town! Pretty boring, eh?
goodness the hawker is unbearable to hear even through the video
I had the "pleasure" of hearing one in Iqaluit back when First Air used to fly them up north. Between the 748 and the JT8Ds of the classic 737 and 727s, I'm pretty sure that one day spent on the tarmac at YFB gave me tinnitus!
