Born in New Orleans, Harry was playing with jazz bands in the French Quarter before he was 10. When he was eighteen, he recorded his first album and by 1989 with the release of the music from When Harry Met Sally, the word was out to the world: Harry Connick, Jr. was a talent that demanded attention. He was singing and playing the piano right at the tender age of 10.
Amazing! So sweet and smart and kind. Its a shame his Mama didn't get to see him play piano and sing.

It’s March 28/2020 and we are in lockdown due to this dreadfully frightening global pandemic.
I have always liked Harry but am now in awe. I have been watching these wonderful celebrities worldwide on RUclips still broadcasting from their own homes on mobile phones and I’m very grateful for the entertainment. Thankyou from Australia.
I had never really heard too much about Harry Cornick, Jr., but I am frankly impressed by this man's life story. He seems to work hard to do those things he really enjoys in his career. I'll definitely keep my ears open to hear more of this hard working artist's music and roles he choses throughout his life.
harry just makes me smile. accomplished in many ways/areas, master of just being a good, decent, kind hearted human being. he's got my vote.

I like the guy too. As a musician myself, I think Harry is underrated. So, he came to Australia years ago and was asked if he had eaten Vegemite (staple Australian spread) and what he thought of it. His response; _"It tasted like cat shit."_ Cracked me up.

@@hankterreros223 Well, I did, but I really wish it was a print "article" as it would be easier to thoroughly digest. Unlike RUclips, you just can't replay a short segment if you don't quite catch or remember a detail. Then you have to start at the beginning. If it were a print article, no problem spotting any issue you have with any part of the whole layout. Still, thanks for this depressing reminder of the scary US ,judicial system.

I loved Harry in the movie Hope Floats , he was a simple man . Hard working, good morals, tall and handsome, from a small town country boy. I just loved him in that movie. I never knew he had all that talent starting as a young boy.
I Loved his role in The Iron Giant, he's one of the things that make that movie awesome.
I have always liked him. I had no idea his career started so young and so talented.
He's just so gifted and with a wonderful personality and soul as well. Just imagine if everyone in the world had the support system and parenting that Harry did whilst growing up. The world would be so much different....full of beauty and talent that touches the world.
A gracious nod to Harry for staying true to his own style of music and making it his own. And he can sing too! Well done dude! I'm so very happy you have been gifted this magical, beautiful life and following your dreams while giving the world something to aspire to and truly enjoy!

Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it. I have some of his performances shown here that I recorded on VHS from my television, but who knows where they are? Somewhere in a box in my house...anyway it’s nice to see it again. This man is so incredibly super talented and it is interesting to learn more details about his life. His parents definitely raised him correctly. I could see how proud his father is of him and I’m sure his mother was also. And I really loved hearing him speak so lovingly of his parents and children. He is a very genuine person, and continues to speak lovingly of his family even to this day. If more of us could be like Mr. H. C. Jr.....wow, what a wonderful world it would be. 🙂

This was screened a long time ago now, probably well over a decade (not this youtube post but the t.v. airing) and it was an excellent doco. As a jazz and funk musician I think HC is a genius and I love his work. Contrary though to most people's opinions I did not like his albums Your Songs and Only You which were more pop 'Mother's Day' type muzac. Even Harry himself had issues with the renowned producer 'Clive' who basically admitted to wanting to just sell as many copies as possible. Hence there was very little piano, no swing and only tiniest nods to jazz on those albums. Other people adored them and that is fine. I just felt he sold out to the masses on those albums. For this fan Harry will always be best seen as the Big Band piano playing genius. Funk and swing are in his genes and he is an incredible jazz pianist and arranger. Come By Me, was of his very best compositions showing that Harry can still be popular whilst not abandoning his New Orleans heritage. This is pretty much the point in his life that this doco finishes on. It would be interesting to see an updated extended version up to the current day. It was great to see even a clip of the Come By Me video - feels like yesterday but was so long ago. The joys of aging aren't really that great. I do thank Harry Connick Jr. though for producing such an enormous amount of music the very vast majority of which has given me and millions so much joy in our life. I hope we get a return to some more Harry the jazz pianist and Big Band leader in future releases.
