Zittau steam - Bertsdorf

  • Down in the south eastern corner of Germany, close to the Czech and Polish borders is the town of Zittau. From Zittau runs a 750mm narrow gauge steam worked railway which employs chunky 2-10-2 tank locomotives. The railway loops around the ouside of the town then heads out into the county. At Bertsdorf to splits, one line running to Kurort Jonsdorf, the other to Kurort Oybin. Bertsdorf was famed at one time for it's 'double departure' where trains left at the same time for each terminus ... here in 2003 one such event was videoed.
