Actually it was a a war to regain the throne that the English stole from the Scottish in 1703 with the the Act of Unions that formed the United Kingdom out of Scotland, England, Wales and N. Ireland. Because of this the last Royal line of Scotland was forced to flee from Scotland, and created a religious war in Britain.
Also, the English far outnumbered the Scots. Archaeology evidence shows that it was a massacre on both sides. although the English were used to long range fighting, they were not used to the short range, and when a scot got through.. it wasnt very good. The authorities are actually somewhat right.. they beat the Scots but forgot about the casualties on their side. Also, if there were any survivors, most fled for France, Italy, the Highlands or the Colonies.
Culloden moor was more a battle of Independence Scots on both sides brothers fighting brothers and fathers the English stole the Scottish crown in 1703 and things festered for 40 years before this outrage against both sides god bless all clans that fought for there pride for Scotland
