Man, recently discovered your channel and I'm gonna be honest, this channel is best for beginner orchestrators like me. This is channel has helped me a lot by far. Please continue your work and never stop making these type of videos.
I'm second year into studying MIDI and have found you at the exact right time! This stuff you're putting out is GOLDEN! 🙏😊 THANK YOU! Subscribe/Like/Share
Idk why I didn’t found your channel earlier. Looks like a ton of great information I can look into. Thanks my dude! INSTANTLY subscribed and hit that bell 🔔!
Late to the party but happy to learn tips from this video Alex! With the contrast element, the minor key is use a lot in Uetmasu work when he compose happy tracks ie. Tifa's theme has a minor key right around the start as a transition back to the main key. Keep up the great work in 2021!
Hi Alex, first of all let me thank you for your time recording your tutorials and sharing your knowledge with us. To limit my 1000 questions to just one: Could you briefly explain how I manage to NOT "blow up" a composition I'm creating? Mostly I start the right way. Selecting instruments and finding the right balance between tracks. One problem is (always) I want to "push up" (is this the right term?) a short part of an instrument, for example a French Horn. Often I end up with a over-enthusiastic track (of this Horn). Then I probably make the mistake of adjusting the volumes of the other tracks, and I don't think you need further explanation of the result. Thanks is advance for you reply ;-) Ed
Great music making and great tutorial! Very nice, easy to understand explanations. Even in this "happy" tune you used Metropolis Ark1, which is rather kind of hardcore?
I get what your saying about happy/sad/dark etc, I've always had difficulty explaining it. A really good example to analyse is the Sound of Music main theme. Whenever I listen to it, its difficult for me to tell if it sounds sad/happy dark/bright because it jumps around between the two quite a bit. With the addition of lyrics and their meaning, there's an extra element to tackle.
Hey alex!, Great tutorial!, Is it efficient to do the things you've mentioned about movement with arps but gradually? Like introduce them gradually so the song / piece gradually gets bigger as well?
It's not bad, but I'm not a HUGE fan either though, I don't really love its sound 100%. However, I like the way the legato automatically adapts to how you're writing. All in all it's a nice bang for the buck if one cannot afford newer and more expensive libraries. Also, as far as I know Berlin Woodwinds is the best Woodwinds library out there, so if I had that, probably I wouldn't buy CineWinds.
I could be wrong, but to my ears the whole music sounds so far away, like drowning in reverb.Maybe you could combine wet sound with close mic sound, make some instruments close up to the audience while others remain far away.
I already do. I think that very wide sound is a side effect of the Maximizer / Compression on the master. But if I don't use those, the music will sound super quiet. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this conundrum, I should probably study mastering a bit more. :P
Or maybe it's simply because there's too much reverb on the low end that makes the whole track sounds muddy. I was comparing your track with TEST DRIVE in how to train your dragons.I found out that in TEST DRIVE the low end has heavy reverb too but it's a lot quieter, especially the percussion part.So maybe the key is that you can't have both heavy reverb and high volume in your low end. It's either clean or quiet.
Alex I don't know if you've already done a video on this, or if its a patreon thing (if so someone please let me know), but do you have any tips on actually finishing a piece? 'Cause I feel like I get 4 bars down and then im stuck
It keeps amazing me how you can create all of this without knowing music theory that much. You are SO talented! One thing I'd like to point out though, and I know that English is not your first language, is that I had a hard time telling "fills" and "feels" apart cause you pronounce them really similarly, so yeah, that's one thing you could work on I guess, since you got everything else down :D
Thank you very much for sharing this video and your knowledge. By the way this very much reminds me of the original (1978) Battlestar Galactica theme. ruclips.net/video/vzyHxYxc-Mo/видео.html Probably some of the chords are the same but i really like this music because of it.
Thanks for the tutorial man. I had to pause and ask, why a lot of your notes are not lined up or "snapped" to the grid? Especially when you were showing us the French horns part at 14:44. Does this help to add realism?

Interesting how the pop filter failed when Alex said pop music. :D

For sure
@@AlexMoukala Thank you for the response 😊
Hey Alex! What do you think of CineWinds, especially after the 1.3 update? Would you still purchase/use it if you already had Berlin Woodwinds?
It's not bad, but I'm not a HUGE fan either though, I don't really love its sound 100%. However, I like the way the legato automatically adapts to how you're writing.

What is your thoughts on Spitfire's woodwinds?(or spitfire products in general?)

yeah keep it up man.
Not the dynamics or reverb, it is metropolis ark 1 that sound that way ^^

Andre M the attack of the instrument won't sycronize to the beat plus the true legato lines
What Michael said, and having some loose notes also helps enhancing realism a bit.
But I mostly do it for the attack times of the legatos!
Thank you both!
listen to bts too .
